情態動詞(Modal verbs)
情態動詞表示說話人對所說話語的觀點和態度,可表示主觀設想及其他情態意義,如
需要、猜測、意愿或懷疑等。
常見的情態動詞有:can、could、may、might、must、need、shall、should、will、would 等。
情態動詞的語法特征:
1. 有實際意義,但在句中不能單獨充當謂語。
2. 后面跟動詞原形。表示否定時,在其后面加 not;表示疑問時,將它提到句首。
3. 無人稱和數的變化。

(1)表義務,意思是“應該”。
例如: We should build confidence in learning English first.
You are on duty today, and you should clean the classroom.
He should help her, but he doesn't want to.
(2)表示勸告、建議,用于主語為第二人稱的句子。
例如: You should remember the words “force”, “pull”, and “centre”.
You should go home at once.
(3)表示征求同意或征詢意見,用于主語為第一人稱的疑問句。

(1)表示必須。
例如: We must do everything carefully.
(2)在否定句中表示禁止。
例如: Cars mustn't be parked here.
You mustn't lend the book to others.
(3)表示推測,用在肯定句中,意為“一定”“準是”。
例如: You must be tired after the long walk.
注意:
回答帶有must的一般疑問句時,否定回答常用need not,而不用must not。
例如: — Must the students be back by four o'clock

graduate 是不及物動詞,意為“畢業;逐漸發展”。常見用法:
(1)graduate from + 地點 從某地畢業
例句:He graduated from our school ten years ago.

(2)graduate in + 專業 從某專業畢業
例句:John graduated in maths from a well-known university in Germany.
約翰從德國一所知名大學的數學專業畢業。
graduate 還可作可數名詞,意為“畢業生”。其名詞形式是graduation,意為“畢業”。
例句:Thousands of graduates step into the society every year.
每年成千上萬的畢業生步入社會。
He plans to volunteer in the west after graduation.
他畢業后打算去西部當志愿者。
2. (1)translator n. 意為“譯者”。是由translate(v. 翻譯)+-or(名詞后綴)構成的。
例句:We need a translator to help us understand the article.
我們需要一位譯者來幫助我們理解文章。
(2)translate...into... 把……翻譯成……
例句:Please translate the article into English.
請將這篇文章譯成英文。
(1)confidence 意為“信心;自信”,用作不可數名詞。常見用法:
have confidence in 在……有信心
build confidence 建立自信
gain/ lack/ lose confidence 獲得/ 缺乏/ 失去信心
例句:He has full confidence in her ability to succeed.
他對她成功的能力充滿信心。
His father is working hard to build confidence among his children.
他的父親正努力建立孩子們的自信。
3. We should build confidence in our learning. 我們應該對我們的學習建立信心。
(2)形容詞形式是confident,意為“自信的;有信心的”。常用搭配:
be confident that 有信心…
例句:Don't worry! I am confident that I can pass the exam.

(1)follow 作動詞,意為“接受,聽從(忠告、指示等)”。
常見搭配:follow one's advice 聽從某人的建議 follow the rules 遵守規則
例句:You should follow your teachers and follow the rules at school.

(2)follow 還可意為“跟隨;沿著”,既可作及物動詞,也可作不及物動詞。follow sb. 跟隨某人。
例句:Follow me please and I will show you the way.

(3)follow 還可意為“理解,明白(說明或意思)”。
例句:I couldn't follow her class because it was too hard.

辨析:aloud, loud 與loudly
aloud adv. “大聲地;出聲地”。強調出聲,能讓別人聽見。通常用于描述閱讀、朗誦或講話等與文字或語言有關的活動。常與read、cry、announce(宣布)等詞連用。
loud adj. “喧鬧的;響亮的;大聲的”。作表語或定語。

loudly 互換。常與talk、speak、laugh 等連用。
loudly adv. “喧鬧地;大聲地”。強調聲音的響亮程度,含有“喧鬧”或“嘈雜”的意味。常與shout、speak、ring、knock( 敲擊) 等動詞連用。
