詞匯:熟悉與志愿服務相關的英語詞匯,如volunteer(志愿者)、charity(慈善機構)、donation(捐贈)、non profit(非營利的)等。
短語:掌握志愿服務中常用的短語和表達,如give back to the community/society (回饋社區/社會)、lend a helping hand (伸出援手)等。

My mum has always told me to help others. One day last week I was walking back to my home and I passed by an old lady who seemed to be in trouble. I turned back and asked if she was okay. She explained that she was sick and had to struggle to walk with her shopping bags. I offered to carry her things and walked her back home but she refused because she didn't want to give me any trouble. I told her it didn't matter and her home was on my way home.
It was a white lie. As I walked with her, she talked with me and introduced herself. I in turn told her my name. She asked if I knew Ray Robert. I was shocked and said yes, that was my dad. It turned out this lady was my dad's neighbor, who had looked after my dad when my grandmother died thirty years ago. My dad had often spoken of her, but I had never met her as she had moved away with her family. It was a lovely moment for both of us. When I got home and told my dad about the incident, it made him cry. I was so moved. I am glad that my small, active kindness ended in a chance meeting that meant so much to the two people.
Q:1.How did the man help the old lady
A.He took the sick lady to hospital.
B.He carried her bags and took her home.
C.He helped her to find her son's home.
2.Why did the man tell a white lie
A.To comfort the old lady.
B.To make friends with the old lady.
C.To win the trust of the old lady.
3.When did the man's grandmother die
A.20 years ago. B.25 years ago.
C.30 years ago.
4.What did it turn out to be
A.The old lady was his father's aunt.
B.The old lady was his father's neighbor.
C.The old lady looked after the man when he was two.
故選A。
4.在第二段中提到,“It turned out ... thirty years ago.”

Hello! My name is Zhan Bingbing.
Lately, all of us have seen Chinese people on TV in far off places in the world, helping other countries1 to develop2. We see Chinese workers building roads in the Congo, a port in Pakistan, railways in Panama, and an airport in Sri Lanka. And we see Chinese miners, oil workers, agricultural experts, mechanics, and doctors working in nearly every corner of the world. And some people may ask, “Is it worth it Why help people overseas when3 China has many areas that4 are still in need of development?” 1現在分詞短語作賓語補足語 2動詞不定式作賓語補足語 3引導時間狀語從句 4引導定語從句,修飾先行詞areas
I had the same questions myself. But for me, it was much more personal. You see, my mother is a medical doctor, and5 for the last two years, she has been working as a volunteer consultant in Tanzania, Africa, as a part of a medical team sent by the Chinese government6.
To be honest, when my mother first left for Africa, I was upset. My mother cooked me dinner every night, and she took good care of me. But more importantly, she was my best friend. We talked together, we spent our leisure time together, and7 except for school and work, we were never apart. So I was unhappy about her leaving without even asking for my input8. 7連接三個并列分句 8動名詞短語作介詞without的賓語
But then I began to hear about the work she was doing9 in Tanzania, a country that10 has many health problems, and now I am singing a different tune. Many dangerous diseases which11 are rare in China are quite commonly contracted in Tanzania. And, while12 the country is quite beautiful and has much natural wealth, many of the people are quite poor and live without things we take for granted13, such as electricity, running water, cars and good transport systems, and supermarkets. One project that my mother worked on was helping to build a cardiac hospital. Prior to this, if14 a Tanzanian had a heart condition and needed surgery, they would have to go abroad. Since15 this was quite expensive, many people went without medical treatment and some even died. Now, not only are Tanzanians helped by the hospital, but16 people in neighbouring countries are helped as well. It has made a big difference to their lives. My mother also does a circuit of the rural villages to provide medical treatment, help those with disabilities, and17 provide consultation and training for local doctors. In addition, her team has given patients a new malaria treatment invented in China, and this has saved many lives.
Today, I want to relay to you that18 I'm proud of the work my mother has done19, and I am now supportive of it. Is her work worth it Yes, to the lives of the people she is helping, it is worth it. But by any criteria this work is worth it to us as well, because20 it shows that we are global citizens interested in world stability21, and22 that we feel responsible for others and are ready to build a community with a shared future for mankind. Everyone deserves a fair chance in life. When23 I think of all the things that we as Chinese citizens can be most proud of, helping others24 comes at the top of this list. Now that25 I understand how26 important my mother's work is, I've decided to become a volunteer myself to help people27 in other lands. In the future, I pray that you will do the same.
Thank you!

Grosberg's father once suffered a lot from depression and mental illness. After his death, Grosberg decided he wanted to help others dealing with the same problem. His solution was the Conan Fund, so called after his father's high school nickname for his strength and popularity. According to the fund's website, the money raised is donated to charities, hospitals and organizations to make a chance and improve resources.
It didn't take long for people living in the shelter on Wellington Street in Liberty Village to come out to receive what Grosberg was offering. From bags of socks, to hats, gloves, jeans and winter jackets, the people were excited and appreciative of the generosity. Martuia Archibald, 30, had a huge smile on her face as she put on a winter jacket and turned up the collar. She didn't have a winter jacket until Grosberg arrived, and was touched by the gesture. “It means that there are people out there that still consider that I need warm clothing as well,” she said.
Grosberg's mother said her son's spirit and kindness motivated her. “He inspires me,” she said. “He shows me the way to move forward after his father is gone. He shows me the way to turn something terrible into something really positive.”
That's exactly what Grosberg is trying to achieve. “I think that doing this is not only inspiring more changes in myself, but hopefully can inspire a lot of others to do the exact same thing I'm doing,” Grosberg said.

Aimed at helping the students from poverty stricken areas, the Student Union launched a grand charity sale last Friday at our school's stadium.
As scheduled, the activity began at 3:00 pm, lasting three hours. What came first was a moving speech delivered by a volunteer, mirroring the authentic life of the needy students and kindling the kindness. So enthusiastic were our schoolmates and teachers that all goods were snapped up within hours. All the money raised would be sent to the Red Cross and distributed to those needy students.
This charity sale proved successful and meaningful. Not only did we students promote our social responsibilities, but we also understood every bit of our kindness could pile up enormous strength.

I'm retired and not responsible for much these days. I don't have school age children who require help with their homework. I sleep in when I choose, do a little writing and repair a few things around the house. My wife's work, on the other hand, is never ending. Diana takes care of her parents in their mid nineties, tends to home and garden, volunteers for various community organizations, and is a gold star grandmother. She is also a dedicated cat lover, and cats have always been her pet of choice.
All that changed when two small black and brown dogs scampered into our yard and melted Diana's heart. It happened not long ago. The dogs appeared unannounced and had been seen by hikers on numerous occasions, roaming the woods like tiny lost souls. They were homeless dogs, as wild as the wind. No one could get within 100 yards of them. In their struggle for survival, the two had figured out a way to avoid people and find food and shelter in the wilderness.
They were undeniably cute and appealing. Many of our neighbors tried to lure them in with treats, but the tiny dogs remained unapproachable. My wife began leaving tasty food out, slowly moving the food bowl closer with each feeding. As days passed, they ventured closer and closer. Diana made a conscious effort not to frighten them. She called them to dinner with a comforting voice, letting them know they were safe. It was important that they trusted her. Why She was looking for something to mother. For Diana, love is the medicine to everything, and nothing tugged at her heartstrings more than a hungry and homeless animal.
Diana named them “Emma” and “Daisy” and she called the dogs her “little wolves”. Initially, they would not let her touch them. As days turned into weeks, their bond slowly grew. Soon, Diana was petting them. Next, they were eating from her hand. Before long, she had them sitting in her lap and following her around the yard. And poof! My wife was instantly transformed from cat lady to dog lady.
注意:
1.續寫詞數應為150個左右;

(2024·湖南省婁底市漣源市高二下期末)Jenny thinks she may have a partial solution to two of her country's problems: garbage and poverty. It's called the Chip Bag Project. The 26 year old student and environmentalist from Detroit is asking a favor of local snack lovers: Rather than throw your empty chip bags into the trash, donate them so she can turn them into sleeping bags for the homeless.
Chip eaters drop off their empty bags from Doritos, Lay's, and other favorites at two locations in Detroit: a print shop and a clothing store. Where Jenny and her volunteer helpers collect them. After they clean the chip bags in soapy hot water, they slice them open, lay them flat, and iron them together. They use padding (襯墊) and liners (襯里) from old coats to line the insides.
It takes about four hours to sew a sleeping bag and each takes around 150 to 300 chip bags depending on whether they're single serve or family size. The result is a sleeping bag that is “waterproof, lightweight, and easy to carry around”.
Since its start in 2020, the Chip Bag Project has collected more than 800,000 chip bags and, as of last December, created 110 sleeping bags. Sure, it would be simpler to raise the money to buy new sleeping bags. But that's only half the goal for Jenny—whose family moved to the United States from Nigeria a decade ago with the hope of attaining a better life—and her fellow volunteers. “We are devoted to making an impact not only socially, but environmentally,” she says.
And, of course, there's the symbolism of rescuing bags that would otherwise land in the trash and using them to help the homeless. It's a powerful reminder that environmental problem and poverty often go hand in hand. As Jenny told hourdetroit.com, “I think it's time to show connections between all of these issues.”

A.To give them away to her.

5.What do we know about the sleeping bag made by Chip Bag Project
A.Its size is adjustable. B.It is only made of old coats.
C.It is convenient. D.It has the function of heating.

__3__, making sure no unauthorised people got on it during the show. I'm pleased to say we managed to do this successfully! We also were able to hear the Chicken Shed Theatre group and An get Blue singing—both were brilliant.
However, volunteering isn't supposed to be fun, is it It is supposed to be a selfless act which you do for others, so the fact that you don't enjoy it doesn't matter, right
Wrong! __4__! It might not always involve meeting celebrities or doing something new and exciting, but it can always be fun. And volunteering isn't necessarily a selfless act—you can learn and develop skills, try new things, and meet lots of new and interesting people.

故選A。
4.在第二段中提到,“It turned out ... thirty years ago.”

(2024·廣東省肇慶市高二下期末)15 year old Jacob Grosberg walked the streets of down town on Saturday to try and help people dealing with health problems, especially mental issues. The Toronto teenager carried bags full of donated clothes and hygiene (衛生) products for people living on the streets or in shelters.

That’s exactly what Grosberg is trying to achieve. “I think that doing this is not only inspiring more changes in myself, but hopefully can inspire a lot of others to do the exact same thing I'm doing,” Grosberg said.
4.What inspired Grosberg to set up the Conan Fund
A.His father's suffering. B.His mother's suggestion.

4.What did Jenny ask the snack lovers to do with their empty chip bags
A.To give them away to her.
B.To throw them into the trash.
C.To turn them into sleeping bags.
D.To donate them to the homeless directly.
故選A。
5.What do we know about the sleeping bag made by Chip Bag Project
A.Its size is adjustable. B.It is only made of old coats.
C.It is convenient. D.It has the function of heating.
根據第三段中的“The result is a sleeping bag that is ‘waterproof, lightweight, and easy to carry around’.(其結果是一款‘防水、輕便、便于攜帶’的睡袋。)”
6.What can be inferred from the last two paragraphs
A.Poverty results from environmental problems.
B.Jenny started the project mainly to raise money.
C.Jenny's project made 110 sleeping bags per month.
D.The aim of the project is more than social issues.
根據倒數第二段中的“We are devoted to making an impact not only socially, but environmentally”可推知,Jenny的項目的目的不僅僅是解決社會問題,還要考慮對環境產生積極影響。故選D。
7.Which words can best describe Jenny
A.Talented and brave. B.Generous and creative.
C.Selfless and modest. D.Hardworking and loyal.

(2024·河南省漯河市高二下期末)Yesterday I volunteered with some of my fellow Rotaract Club of Hampstead, Hendon, and Golders Green (HH & GG) members at the Hampstead Christmas Festival. Rotaract is a service club for people aged 18 to 30. Through the Rotaract program, young adults can meet new people and learn new skills. __1__.
When we arrived at the Festival we had no idea what we would be asked to do. __2__. My feet were wet within minutes of getting there!
We gave up our time to help out at the Festival, despite the bad weather, with no idea of what our role would be. __5__. For example, we got more chairs for the stage when required. We had a fantastic experience this Sunday afternoon.
A.It was a cold, dark, rainy day
B.Volunteering is supposed to be fun
C.Also they can help their local community
D.Our role at the event would be to turn the lights on
E.Some past members of the club have benefited a lot
F.Our role at the Festival was to stand behind the stage
G.We not only had an important job but also helped in other ways
1.答案:C
解析:根據上文“Rotaract is a service club ... learn new skills.”
2.答案:A
解析:根據下文“My feet were wet within minutes of getting there!” 故選A。
3.答案:F
解析:根據下文“making sure no unauthorised people got on it during the show”可知,作者在節日中的任務是確保表演期間沒有未經授權的人走上舞臺。
4.答案:B
解析:下文“It might not always ... can always be fun.”
5.答案:G
解析:上文“We gave up our time ... what our role would be.” 下文“For example, we got more chairs for the stage when required.”
