Food festivals are a common occurrence in the UK and take place in all sorts of places and at all sorts of times. Whatever your taste, there's a food festival to match—no matter how specialized.
Meatopia
This three-day, London-based festival takes place at the end of August and is a meat lover's paradise. In addition to a range of legally sourced meat products, from juicy burgers to tender steaks, attendees can listen to live music, watch butchery demonstrations, and attend informal meat-based workshops.
The National Honey Show
If you have a sweet tooth, then it could be that the National Honey Show, which started in 1921 and is the largest event of its kind, is the place for you to be. This three-day event attracts many local entries who showcase their sweet golden honey, some of which is sold globally.
The Orange Sauce Festival
Have you heard about a festival that is devoted only to orange sauce? Held in Cumbria, this sweet, fragrant festival has been running for 3 years. What attracts people most is a competition to find the best homemade orange sauce. There are thousands of participants from over 30 different countries across the globe, bringing their local snacks to share here.
The Ginger (姜) and Spice Festival
If you'd prefer something with a little more kick to it, then you could attend the Ginger and Spice Festival held in Market Drayton. Unlike other food festivals, it celebrates its town's historic connection to Robert Clive, who returned from India with ginger. People perform graceful moves, all while standing on a bamboo strip in the river. You may think it's a scene from an art movie, but actually it is a form of intangible cultural heritage: bamboo drifting (獨竹漂).
Bamboo drifting dates back to over 2,000 years ago in the Chishui River area of Guizhou. During the Qin Dynasty, the Bozhou district of Zunyi city was known for its high-quality nanmu. It was in great demand by the royal court more than 2,000 kilometers to the north. With no transportation along the Chishui River, people had to stand on one log (原木) to drift down the river. Later, local people began to compete along the way and the game of wood drifting was born. In the Qing Dynasty, wood drifting became bamboo drifting because of bamboo's lower price.
Now, communities in Guizhou hold bamboo drifting competitions every year during the Dragon Boat Festival. Due to the great strength and balance it takes for one to master this act, bamboo drifting was included in the national intangible cultural heritage list.
Yang Liu, 24, is an inheritor of bamboo drifting. Yang said the most difficult part of bamboo drifting was keeping one's balance. “I fell in the water several times when I was practicing,” she said.
“Usually, the bamboo under your feet is about 9 meters long, and the bamboo in your hands is about 5 meters. If the length or diameter of the bamboo is not long enough, it will not be buoyant (有浮力的) enough to float. So we should fight against the water flow by continuously changing the angle,” Yang added.
But the love for the ancient skill keeps Yang going. In the past 17 years, she has drifted all year round, in winter cold and summer heat.
Yang also produces new ideas when spreading the culture of bamboo drifting. For example, she connects dance with bamboo drifting to make it more graceful and wears hanfu when performing, creating a beautiful feel. In 2020, Yang registered on social media platforms and posted her videos. “I want to spread it to other countries so that more people around the world will like Chinese culture,” she told China Daily.
24.What's the main idea of Paragraph 2?
A.The use of bamboo drifting.
B.The birthplace of bamboo drifting.
C.The acting skills for bamboo drifting.
D.The historical development of bamboo drifting.
25.Why was bamboo drifting listed into the national intangible cultural heritage?
A.It spreads Chinese culture to the world.
B.It enjoys great popularity among Guizhou people.
C.It's physically and technically demanding for performers.
D.It's an important activity during the Dragon Boat Festival.
26.What is the most challenging for bamboo drifting?
A.Keeping one's balance.
B.Performing graceful moves.
C.Choosing bamboos of proper size.
D.Continuously changing the angle.
27.Which of the following best describes Yang Liu?
A.Responsible and brave.
B.Creative and determined.
C.Hard-working and outgoing.
D.Knowledgeable and competitive.

Two years ago, I went on a student exchange program to Auckland in New Zealand. I chose to go to New Zealand because firstly, it is a safe country and secondly, I wanted to go to a country that is culturally different from my own.
I started considering going on a student exchange program after making a backpack trip around the world when I was a freshman at Waseda University. Spending a year studying abroad has made me feel more confident in communicating in English. I was also able to meet people of different backgrounds thanks to the exchange paring to the past, I am now a better listener and also better at voicing my opinions. Studying abroad does not only improve my language skills, but also makes me grow as a person.

A.He wants to teach language skills.
B.He decides to study abroad again.
C.He feels thankful for the program.
D.He listens more than he speaks.

Around the world, many people come together on 31st December to celebrate the coming of the New Year, which is called Hogmanay in Scotland. The tradition of Hogmanay comes from Viking times and the celebration is more popular than Christmas in Scotland.
On Hogmanay's Eve, family members throughout Scotland will get together to “bring in the bells”. English family names or surnames as we know today weren't widely used until the Norman conquest (征服) of 1066. Before that time there weren't enough people to make it necessary to use anything other than a single name. 36 , people began adding descriptions such as “John the Baker” to tell between people of the same name. These descriptive names eventually became associated with a family, passed down from one generation to the next.
Occupational (職業性的) Surnames. 37 . Two common English surnames, Smith and Wright, are excellent examples of this. A name ending in “-man” usually suggests a trade name, as in Chapman (shopkeeper).
Descriptive Surnames. Based on a unique quality or physical characteristic of the individual, descriptive surnames often developed from nicknames. Most refer to an individual's appearance, like size, color or physical shape, for example, Little or Armstrong. 38 . Good child or Wise are good examples of this.
Geographical Surnames. These are names coming from the location of the land in which the first bearer and his family lived, and are generally the most common origin of English surnames. They were first introduced into England by the Normans, many of whom were known by the name of their personal lands. 39 . County names in Great Britain, such as Kent and Devon, have been commonly adopted as surnames.
Other local surnames are from descriptive landscape features such as hills and woods which describe the land where the bearer lives. 40 .
A.As the country's population grew
B.As a person entered under one surname
C.A rare name can tell you the family's origin
D.This is the origin of surnames such as Hill and Bush
E.They may also refer to an individual's personal character
F.Many English surnames developed from a person's job or trade
G.Thus, many English surnames developed from the name of an actual town or county

The most 49 time was travelling with other exchange students around Australia during our semester break. The few weeks we 50 together were full of amazing activities.
At the end of our 51 in Australia, we had three weeks to share our stories and help each other deal with leaving. It was only 52 that our last day together was filled with tears. We packed our camp, 53 e-mail addresses and gathered together for a final good-bye.
Upon coming home, an open mind was again important. Resettling home took time and 54 , but at last I made it. All the while, I was thoughtful to let my family and friends know how happy I was to be home and 55 I had missed them—though the experience is still unforgettable with me. Mary frowned as she helped her mother and father set out the cooking supplies in the shiny steel kitchen. Her family had just moved here from New York, having bought a small restaurant, which was set to open in the next few days.
“Moving here was a stupid idea. I have lost all my friends in New York. What should I do now?” Mary grumbled (抱怨), mostly to herself.
“What's that?” Her mother asked, opening a box and lifting out several pots. “Nothing,” Mary mumbled (嘟噥). The girl had been complaining about the move, but her parents had made the decision and were then too busy to listen to her complaints.
The first few days at her new school hadn't been easy, either. She found it hard to talk to people she didn't know, and it seemed that the students hadn't even noticed her. Mary sighed and got back to wash dishes.
On the day of the grand opening, Mary's parents were busy the whole day, welcoming customers into the restaurant, which was brightly decorated in gold and red. Even Mary was in a good mood as she rushed around, seating guests, handing out menus, and pouring glasses of water. This was a big day for her family.
At one of the tables sat a family with two daughters who were about Mary's age. As she filled their glasses, Mary realized the twins were in her class. Mary ducked her head down. Her long hair covered her face, and she turned away from the table.
A few minutes later, Mary's mother found her in the kitchen. “Honey, what are you doing back here? We need you out front with the customers.”
注意:
1.續寫詞數應為150個左右;
2.請按如下格式在相應位置作答。

Good afternoon, class. I want to start my lecture today by telling you a little story. Once there was a young woman from Mexico named Consuela who came to New York to learn English. She got a job at a factory owned by a man from China. One day, as Consuela came to work, her Chinese boss handed her a red envelope. Consuela looked inside and saw 20 dollars. She became very upset and threw the envelope back at the boss. Her boss was shocked. Can you guess why? Well, the boss gave her the red envelope with the money in it because it was the Chinese New Year. And on the Chinese New Year it is traditional to give money to young single people for good luck. However, from Consuela's point of view, here was an older man giving her money in an envelope. This meant a bad thing for her. Naturally she refused to take the money. Now, what does this story show us? Every culture has its own rules for what is appropriate and what is not appropriate behavior, and serious misunderstandings can occur if we don't understand them. First, the way people greet each other in different cultures. Second, the way they use names and titles. Third, the way people eat. And finally, the way they exchange gifts. OK, now, I'd like to talk about them one by one.
18.What is the speaker doing?
A.Giving a lecture.
B.Studying foreign cultures.
C.Telling some stories.
答案:A
19.What does the story show us?

Because of this, they specialize in baking gingerbread, but also sell a range of traditional spices from mild to hot.

I met so many people of different backgrounds during my trip. When I was travelling, I realized the importance of speaking English. I felt that if I knew English, I could communicate and make friends with a lot of people around the world. Then, I made up my mind to work hard after coming back from the trip.
When I was at Auckland University of Technology, I mainly took classes related to language pedagogy (教學法). Unlike at Waseda University, many of the classes at Auckland University of Technology were held in small class size, usually a class size of 15 students to a teacher. In addition, rather than one way passive learning, students were required to actively raise their opinions and take part in group discussions in class. The classes were also practical in nature and required a lot of preparation.

The phrase in Scotland refers to the ten second countdown to midnight when bells ring all over Scotland to signal the beginning of the New Year. The atmosphere can only be described as electric! It is such an exciting event and all of the people are in a good mood as they wait to bring in the New Year bells!
Then most towns in Scotland have celebrations with fireworks in the evening, but in the bigger Scottish cities, other events take place.
The best-known event for Hogmanay is the annual Edinburgh Street Party. Every year, Edinburgh hosts a joyful firework show and other celebrating activities outside of the castle and it is broadcast on TV for those watching the celebration from their homes.
Another very popular event takes place in Stonehaven, where there is a “Fireball Ceremony” which takes place along the street. Around forty men and women come together and wave fireballs around their heads, which is wonderful to witness! People line the streets hours beforehand to see the festival which begins immediately after midnight on December 31st.
On New Year's Day in Scotland, it is traditional to have a meal with the family. They always eat a steak pie with vegetables. Another tradition that has to be mentioned is the “First Footing” tradition. Also from the time of the Vikings, this is the tradition where the first person to enter the home after Hogmanay has to bring something Scottish with them, otherwise it brings bad luck for the coming year. People are usually very generous with their first footing gifts such as ginger wine, Scottish whisky and homemade shortbread.

注意:
1.續寫詞數應為150個左右;
2.請按如下格式在相應位置作答。
“Mom, I don't want to be out there!” Mary put a handful of cookies into a small plate and left the kitchen.

“Mom, I don't want to be out there!” Mary frowned. Feeling Mary was in a bad mood, her mother asked her what was wrong in a soft voice. At that moment, Mary couldn't help pouring out her troubles, “Without a friend, I'm isolated here.” Realizing she had ignored Mary's feelings after the move, her mother held Mary in her arms, suggesting that she make new friends by taking action first. “Go and take them some cookies and say hello!” The instant Mary heard that, her eyes shone with a mixture of excitement and expectation.
Mary put a handful of cookies into a small plate and left the kitchen. Nervous as she was, she plucked up courage to approach the table where the twins sat, placing the cookies down carefully. She bravely looked at the girls directly in the eyes, “Thanks so much for coming to our restaurant!” It was not until the twins looked up that they recognized her. The twins gave her a big hug. They offered to hang out with her and introduce her around to the other guys at school. “That would be awesome!” Mary grinned.

19.What does the story show us?
A.Many people suffer from culture shock.
B.Different countries have different customs.
C.Do as the Romans do when in Rome.
20.What is the speaker going to talk about next?
A.The way people eat in different cultures.
B.The way people use their names in different cultures.
C.The way people greet each other in different cultures.

Because of this, they specialize in baking gingerbread, but also sell a range of traditional spices from mild to hot.

第二節(滿分25分)
閱讀下面材料,根據其內容和所給段落開頭語續寫兩段,使之構成一篇完整的短文。
注意:
1.續寫詞數應為150個左右;
