REDUCING WATER POLLUTION IN THE LI RIVER
The beautiful Li River and its amazing surrounding scenery is one of the most well known tourist destinations in China's Guangxi Zhuang Autonomous Region. It attracts millions of domestic and foreign visitors each year. However, its reputation as a top destination1 has had negative effects on the river's water quality. This report looks at the problem of water pollution and some actions that2 have been taken to deal with it. 1介詞短語作后置定語 2引導定語從句,修飾先行詞some actions
Previously, water quality in the Li River had suffered greatly from an increasing volume of tourists, many of whom3 frequently threw garbage into the river. Many tour boats contributed to the problem too. Kitchens on board were using lots of oil, which4 was often thrown into the water. The growth in tourism also meant the local population rose rapidly, as well as the number of commercial and industrial enterprises. Water pollution levels increased, with more household and commercial waste ending up in the river. In order to feed more people, more chemicals were used to increase crop production5. These chemicals led to severe water quality issues, causing a decrease in the number of fish species6. Local officials were concerned that7 the pollution was damaging the natural environment and8 felt that urgent steps should be taken to restore the river's original beauty.
A comprehensive initiative was started, with a number of measures9 that10 addressed the issues. The construction of waste water treatment facilities improved the water quality and water conservation. The collection and transport of household waste was also improved. Dozens of polluting enterprises were closed or moved. The local government set up strict regulations regarding further industrial development11. New rules were also introduced regarding tour boat routes and12 garbage disposal methods. Furthermore, the local authorities began to use the media to spread environmental awareness and encourage greater use of clean energy. At the same time, they started to carry out inspections regularly and fine tourist organisations for abuses. With these measures, it13 is believed that the beauty of the Li River will be preserved for generations to come14. 9介詞短語作狀語 10引導定語從句,修飾先行詞measures 11介詞短語作后置定語,修飾regulations 12連接兩個名詞短語tour__boat__routes和garbage__disposal__methods,作賓語 13it是形式主語, that引導主語從句 14動詞不定式作后置定語,修飾名詞generations
In addition, the ambitious “Water Ten Plan” is also now tackling water pollution across the country. Other initiatives, such as the “River Chief System”, hold senior officials responsible for reducing water pollution15. With such campaigns in effect16, China's waterways are heading towards a clean and17 sustainable future.

(2024·新課標Ⅱ卷)We all know fresh is best when it comes to food. However, most produce at the store went through weeks of travel and covered hundreds of miles before reaching the table. While farmer's markets are a solid choice to reduce the journey, Babylon Micro Farm (BMF) shortens it even more.
BMF is an indoor garden system. It can be set up for a family. Additionally, it could serve a larger audience such as a hospital, restaurant or school. The innovative design requires little effort to achieve a reliable weekly supply of fresh greens.
Specifically, it's a farm that relies on new technology. By connecting through the Cloud, BMF is remotely monitored. Also, there is a convenient app that provides growing data in real time. Because the system is automated, it significantly reduces the amount of water needed to grow plants. Rather than watering rows of soil, the system provides just the right amount to each plant. After harvest, users simply replace the plants with a new pre seeded pod (容器) to get the next growth cycle started.
Moreover, having a system in the same building where it's eaten means zero emissions (排放) from transporting plants from soil to salad. In addition, there's no need for pesticides and other chemicals that pollute traditional farms and the surrounding environment.
BMF employees live out sustainability in their everyday lives. About half of them walk or bike to work. Inside the office, they encourage recycling and waste reduction by limiting garbage cans and avoiding single use plastic. “We are passionate about reducing waste, carbon and chemicals in our environment,” said a BMF employee.

4.What does the text mainly talk about
A.BMF's major strengths.
B.BMF's general management.
C.BMF's global influence.
D.BMF's technical standards.

(2024·福建師范大學附屬中學高二下質量檢測)Born to an adventure loving mom and a National Geographic's photographer dad, Alison Teal was already exploring the world as a baby. The family traveled the globe staying not at five star hotels but in a six foot wide tent. From cold mountaintops to hot jungles, they completely involved themselves in local nature and culture.
Between journeys, they would return home to a quiet and faraway part of the Big Island of Hawaii, where they built a solar powered oceanfront rest center. The front yard was the ocean, and Alison's friends were dolphins. She would dive into the water and release seaweed. A dolphin would catch it on its nose or fin and throw it to the next player. Over the years, the dolphins grew to trust Alison. They looked for her and came close to her in the water.
After graduating from university, she continued her world travels. Her adventurous childhood and life skills landed her a spot in the reality show Naked and Afraid, in which she and her partner had to live on an unwelcoming island for 21 days. Alison's deep knowledge of how to live in a wilderness saved the pair, but what shocked her was the amount of trash washed upon the shore.
“After that, I couldn't ignore our plastic problem. I shifted my focus and started to protect our greatest resource, the ocean,” says Alison. Swimming in familiar waters back home, she also found her dolphin friends were no longer tossing (拋) seaweed to each other, but plastic. “That was distressing,” she says.
Her book, Alison's Adventures:Your Passport to the World, is filled with travel tales and environmental lessons. She also offers free adventure films to go along with each chapter on her YouTube and TikTok. Alison believes all of us can make changes to protect the Earth and, in turn, those we love. “Whether you're a lawyer, a gardener, an artist, a teacher or a surfer, we can all help in our own ways,” she says.

As we know, many species are in danger of extinction. This is because the environment they are living in is being destroyed gradually.
With the development of cities, water and air are seriously polluted. Wild animals' living areas are becoming smaller and smaller. They not only have little to eat, but also can be killed by humans. Personally, more measures should be taken to protect them from being killed. Firstly, more laws must be made to stop people from cutting down trees. Secondly, all the factories must clean the waste water before it is poured into rivers or lakes. Last but not least, more reserves should be set up so that they could live safely.
It is time that we took action, or the next endangered one will be ourselves.

“Sarah,” whispered Sam, “Wouldn't it be splendid if we climbed to the top of that hill today? It's said to hold breathtaking views of our beloved village.”
Hearing that, Sarah's face lit up with excitement, her heart filled with eagerness. “Oh, Sam, that sounds great! But we promise Papa and Mama we will save our pocket money and not spend a single penny unnecessarily.” With determination in their hearts, the twins worked out a plan. They decided to bring homemade snacks and refreshing drinks from their own kitchen, ensuring they wouldn't spend a penny.
The twins set off on their journey, their backpacks filled with sandwiches, cookies, and bottles filled with cool, clear water from the village well. As they walked along the path, they noticed colorful trash scattered (散落) about, which ruined the natural beauty surrounding them.
A brilliant idea flashed into Sarah's mind. “Why don't we pick up the litter along the way?We could clean up our beloved countryside and maybe even earn a few coins by recycling the materials.”
Excited by the idea, the twins eagerly collected the scattered items. As they reached the foot of the hill, their bags heavy with the collected waste, they came across a recycling center. With excitement, they exchanged their findings for shiny coins. With newfound treasures in their pockets, they climbed up the hill.
When they reached the top, they were greeted by a breathtaking view of their village. “It's so beautiful!”Sam burst out. “We must share our adventure with Miss Harper and our classmates!”

(2024·湖南省長沙麓山國際實驗學校高二下學情檢測)More than one third of the world's food is wasted or thrown away, most of which ends up in landfills, producing very large amounts of planet warming greenhouse gases. Now, many studies show that it is becoming harder to grow enough food to feed an increasing population due to climate change and soil degradation.
But one of the most promising and simplest solutions lies in the problem itself: this wasted food—if composted (堆肥)—could slow climate change and improve soil quality. Higher quality soil also continues to absorb more carbon from the atmosphere, helping to improve plants and contributing further to fighting climate change. Returning one ton of organic matter to each hectare of soil would increase the production of cereal crops each year in Africa, Asia and South America by millions of tons.
While it is true that people can compost in their yards, community gardens, or even on their kitchen counters, larger scale efforts, including infrastructure (基礎設施) and incentives (激勵) for consumers, would take it to the next level. Imagine if consumers could just leave unwanted food in a roadside bin for pickup, or drop it off at a local store, earning a few cents a bucket, just like what has been offered for recycling bottles or newspapers.
Moreover, in the case of composting, the payment incentive system would be sustainable because the end product of compost can be sold to farmers, making it an economically workable model, something that is often lacking in recycling, especially for certain materials, like many types of plastics.
Eventually, more widespread composting of food would pave the way for solutions to additional waste challenges, such as the disposal of packaging and clothing. This will have other positive effects as well; if more consumers compost, companies will be more inspired to make and use compostable packaging, clothing, and other products. While more compostable items are starting to emerge today, additional composting will further drive demand and innovation, and offer a game changing solution for the planet.

5.What can be learned about the approach to composting wasted food
A.A good system is needed to carry out it effectively.
B.It would take a long term to have an effect.
C.It is only workable on a small scale.
D.It may raise people's awareness of reducing food waste.
答案:A
根據第三段中的“While it is true that ... to the next level.” 故選A。
6.What does the author think of the payment incentive system of composting food
A.It is highly profitable.
B.It is easy to carry out.
C.It is a sustainable economic cycle pattern.
D.It is more effective than other recycling systems.
7.What can be a suitable title for the text
A.How Wasted Food Could Be Reduced
B.How Wasted Food Could Save the Planet
C.How Wasted Food Could Impact Humans
D.How Wasted Food Could Become a Business

Other reasons which result in this pollution account for 10%. Polluted water bodies not only do harm to animals and plants, they also have a long lasting effect on humans. We should take some measures to fight against water pollution. First of all, we must draw public attention to the problem. Besides, more strict laws should be passed to help reduce water pollution. All in all, only when everybody takes action to stop the pollution will the problem be solved.

①With the boy leading the way, we had no trouble in getting to the station.

(2024·新課標Ⅱ卷)We all know fresh is best when it comes to food. However, most produce at the store went through weeks of travel and covered hundreds of miles before reaching the table. While farmer‘s markets are a solid choice to reduce the journey, Babylon Micro Farm (BMF) shortens it even more.
BMF is an indoor garden system. It can be set up for a family. Additionally, it could serve a larger audience such as a hospital, restaurant or school. The innovative design requires little effort to achieve a reliable weekly supply of fresh greens.
Specifically, it‘s a farm that relies on new technology.

Alison‘s deep knowledge of how to live in a wilderness saved the pair, but what shocked her was the amount of trash washed upon the shore.

In the little village of Meadowbrook, surrounded with rolling hills, lived two curious and adventurous twins, Sarah and Sam. At the age of twelve, the inseparable twins were always seeking new adventures.
One morning, Miss Harper, their favorite community service teacher, was introducing community volunteer work. Sam suddenly caught sight of the hill behind the schoolyard and was instantly inspired with the idea of climbing to the top.
“Sarah,” whispered Sam, “Wouldn't it be splendid if we climbed to the top of that hill today? It's said to hold breathtaking views of our beloved village.”
Hearing that, Sarah‘s face lit up with excitement, her heart filled with eagerness. “Oh, Sam, that sounds great! But we promise Papa and Mama we will save our pocket money and not spend a single penny unnecessarily.” With determination in their hearts, the twins worked out a plan. They decided to bring homemade snacks and refreshing drinks from their own kitchen, ensuring they wouldn’t spend a penny.
