What Is Your Pet Trying to Tell You
Animals want our attention, and sometimes they're quite obviously about asking for it.Unusual behaviours are often our pets' way of telling us to stop what we're doing and play with them. It's why Fido constantly chases his tail and why Kitty keeps rolling around.A desperately bored pet may have “bad” behaviours to get a reaction—even a negative one!
Feed me.
Sure, your dog loves you,but that's not why he's licking(舔) your face.A puppy learns to lick his mother's mouth to get a little leftover food.So Spot isn't kissing you;he just wants a snack.
I'm stressed.
Cat owners also misinterpret their furry friends' kisses. While a cat might lick you to show love, sometimes she'll do it to ease herself. One way to tell if her licking is stress-related is to see if it goes on for an extended period of time.Birds also overclean when they feel anxious. Some will even drag out their own feathers.
My tail tells all.
Dogs wag(搖) their tails to the right when they see something or someone they want to approach, and to the left when they see something they want to avoid. When frightened, dogs curl their tails in,while cats wrap theirs around themselves. And if a cat's tail looks like a question mark, she's eager to play.
1.What does a dog show if it kisses its owner
A.Hunger. B.Love.
C.Fear. D.Sadness.
2.How many kinds of pets are mentioned in the text

C.They will clean their feathers more than necessary.
D.They will stare at their owners for a longer time.

During the industrial age, when high school was key to the American dream, public-school systems covered the costs of earning a diploma. Today, however, as college degrees have replaced high-school diplomas as the ticket into the middle class, families are forced to cover the costs of higher education and more. If the information-age economy demands a workforce with higher education, the US government needs to make the same deal with students and their families: Anyone willing to work hard and earn the degree should be able to attend college—for free.
With that basic bargain in mind, Michigan has lately joined Oregon, Rhode Island and Tennessee in experimenting with ways to make community college free. Under the terms of the Chicago Star Scholarship, a program that has already enrolled more than 6,000 students, if a student at a public high school in Michigan maintains a B average, the state will provide a free degree at a local community college. Then, through another program Chicago Star Plus, students who have scored 3.0 GPA are qualified to receive a tuition discount at 18 of the four-year colleges located in Michigan.
Chicago Star Scholarship and Chicago Star Plus are already changing young lives. Its high-school graduation rate grew from 56.9 percent in 2011 to 78.2 percent in 2022. And Chicago Star Plus' college attending rate is 86 percent, well above the national average of 62.7 percent.
More than a century ago, America achieved an explosion of social mobility by creating a supportive public school system that runs to 12th grade. By adding community colleges to the nation's public-school systems and educational requirements, we can strengthen the belief in the American dream again.

36-year-old Jia Juntingxian was born in Pingxiang, and was blind in both eyes due to eye disease. She showed athletic talent since childhood and was selected as an athlete by Jiangxi Disabled Persons' Federation.
Although she can't see the world, Jia breaks through the “immediate” obstacles while running, letting the world see her. In her sports career, Jia has won 43 medals. Among them, in 2016, she broke the world record and stood on the podium of the women's T11-T13 4×100-meter relay event at the Rio Paralympics.
In 2017, Jia retired and chose to become a teacher at a special education school. Just a year ago, she found out that two young brothers, with visual impairments, wanted to be an athlete. But Jia could only help them attend a local special education school. The experience made her realise these children living in remote areas may have little knowledge of special education. As a result, she decided to become more involved in special education.
Changing from a competitor to a special education teacher, Jia said that there is no discomfort, “Because I understand the students and knows the inconveniences and difficulties of the children. I hope every child is like a seed. Through hard study, they can bravely realise their own life.”
Jia also has paid close attention to the rights and interests of disabled people. In 2021, Jia proposed the construction of audible traffic signals for blind people. Her advice to local authorities on dog management has resulted in more indoor public places allowing the disabled to enter with their assistance dogs. Jia founded a massage shop and employed 16 visually impaired people, with an average monthly salary of 3,500 yuan per person.
Jia believes the world is a circle, as long as the love is constantly passed on, the whole society will be full of love!

When you think of the Himalayas, you may picture tall, rocky, snow-covered peaks. But that's not true.
The subnival (亞冰雪的) region is the zone between the treeline and the snowline. It is 5 to 5 times as large as the areas of glaciers and permanent snow, which means studying it is vital to understanding the Himalayas as a whole.
The treeline is the edge of an ecosystem where trees are able to grow, and beyond the treeline environmental conditions become too tough to allow tree growth. Meanwhile, snowlines are the boundaries on mountains that separate areas with permanent snow (where snow is present for the majority of the year) from areas with seasonal or no snow.
Researchers used satellite data from 1993 to 2018 to measure plant cover between 4,150 metres and 6,000 metres above sea level. The scientists discovered that the greatest increase in plant cover was between an altitude of 5,000 metres and 5,500 metres. Subnival plants mostly include small shrubs and grasses.
Even areas once completely occupied by glaciers now hold rocks covered with mosses, lichen, and sometimes even flowers. In addition, the snowline seems to be retreating, while the treeline is expanding. This shows that the region is becoming warmer, causing more melting of snow and allowing vegetation to move up in height.
In the past 40 years, 25% of all Himalayan ice has been lost due to global warming. Himalayan glaciers are reducing by about 0.5 metres each year. The rate of glacier melting has doubled in this decade. The melting of glaciers increases water in the region, making it wetter. Receding snow also forces the snowline to move up, providing a greater amount of area for the warm and moist conditions, which are perfect for vegetation growth.
As of now, we do not know whether vegetation will accelerate or slow down the rate of glacier melting.
12.How does the writer develop the third paragraph
A.By explaining concepts.
B.By providing some examples.
C.By analysing causes and effects.
D.By listing specific data.
13.What does the underlined word “retreating” mean in paragraph 5
A.Disappearing. B.Lengthening.
C.Withdrawing. D.Widening.
14.What is the direct effect of global warming on the Himalayas
A.The snowline moves up.
B.Glaciers are melting faster.
C.The subnival area is wetter.
D.Plants grow much better.
15.What is the best title for the text
A.The Climate of the Himalayas Is Changing
B.Icebergs in the Himalayas Have Disappeared
C.Plants Are Diverse in the Himalayas
D.Plant Life Spreads in the Himalayas

第二節(jié)
閱讀下面材料,根據(jù)其內容和所給段落開頭語續(xù)寫兩段,使之構成一篇完整的短文。
When I was a child, my mother told my sister, who had a 10-inch very obvious scar (傷疤) on her arm, “Nancy, if you ignore the scar, other people will ignore it. It does not mean they will not notice it, but it means it will not matter to them if it doesn't matter to you.”
It never occurred to me that something like this would happen to my son years later. Sending a child off to college can certainly be stressful for concerned parents. It was in 2018 that my son went off to college. He rarely contacted us. I couldn't help asking about other aspects, which sometimes made him complain that I didn't treat him as an adult.
To be honest, my son is excellent. Some of my friends always tell me that they admire my son's characters and they hope their sons could have some of them.
Unexpectedly, it was 4 o'clock in the morning in 2020, when I received the phone call. “This is the emergency room calling and your son was just brought in with severe burns on his face, neck and arms. We have called for an aircraft and are going to fly him to the burn unit in Seattle.” Seattle was 350 miles from his college, so we knew immediately this was serious.
The doctor described the reason, which caused the burns. At 6 am, my son and his friends decided to barbecue hamburgers in the courtyard of their apartment. When they lit the charcoal, it burst into flames because they had sprayed too much gasoline. The flames caught my son's shirt tail and shot from his waist to well over his head.
Fortunately, one of the boys who was quick-minded grasped my son and rolled him on the grass. While it saved his life, it was not in shape to save him from severe burns and the terrible scars.
After he recovered from the treatments, the doctors told him they would not do plastic surgery for 6 months because it takes that long for the skin to stop shrinking and wrinkling.
注意:1.續(xù)寫詞數(shù)應為150左右;
2.請按如下格式作答。
The doctors suggested he return to college with scars of severe burns temporarily.________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________

第二節(jié)
[參考范文]
The doctors suggested he return to college with scars of severe burns temporarily. Although I knew that there were going to be storms in life, it was hard for me to imagine that a handsome and sunny boy would return to his classmates with scars. I really didn't know how to comfort him. After all, the scars were on him. Not all of us could be able to turn that particular page successfully. It was at this time that I remembered what my mother said to my sister. It was those words that enabled her to overcome her psychological barriers and lead a smooth life.
So I told him about Nancy's childhood.I passed the wisdom on to my son. Realising my complex feelings, he smiled and comforted me instead. He took my advice to heart and returned to school with his head held high. By the end of the six-month waiting period, he decided that the scars did not matter. So he made the decision to give up any plastic surgery. We all have “scars” that we believe will keep people away from us. Put your imperfections out of your mind and concentrate on what you value within yourself, and your beauty will shine through.

A.The snowline moves up.
B.Glaciers are melting faster.
C.The subnival area is wetter.

36.to [考查介詞。此處考查常用表達be home to,意為“是……的所在地”,故填to。]

注意:1.續(xù)寫詞數(shù)應為150左右;
2.請按如下格式作答。
The doctors suggested he return to college with scars of severe burns temporarily.__________________________________________ _________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________
So I told him about Nancy's childhood._____________________ _________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________
So I told him about Nancy's childhood. I passed the wisdom on to my son.
THANKS
