筷子，古稱箸、梜，是華夏飲食文化的標志之一，也是世界上常用餐具之一，其發明于中國，后傳至朝鮮、日本、越南等漢字文化圈。公筷亦起源于中國。不管是分餐還是使用公筷，在中國都有著悠久的歷史。
中國發現的最早筷子是河南省安陽市殷墟出土的銅筷子。《韓非子·喻老》言：“昔者紂為象箸，而箕子怖。”紂王為商朝末期的國君，可見3000多年前的中國就已經出現象牙筷子。
