構成方法 原級 比較級
單音節詞和部分雙音節詞 一般情況下，最高級詞尾加-est tall; short; fast tallest；shortest；fastest
以字母e結尾的詞，最高級詞尾加-st large; late largest；latest
重讀閉音節詞尾只有一個輔音字母時，先雙寫該輔音字母，然后最高級詞尾加-est big; fat; thin biggest；fattest；thinnest
以“輔音字母+ y”結尾的雙音節詞，先把y改為i，然后最高級詞尾加-est easy; heavy; early easiest；heaviest；earliest
多音節詞和部分雙音節詞 詞前加most構成最高級 beautiful; popular most beautiful；most popular

最高級規則變化口訣
單音節，真容易，詞尾常加 est；
詞尾帶個啞音 e，直接加 st 就可以；
重讀閉音一輔音，輔音雙寫再加 est；
輔音跟著 y，y先變 i 再加 est；
多音節，有妙招，most 前面罩；
特殊變化單獨記，最高級里辨清晰。

形容詞和副詞的最高級的用法
1. 表示三者或三者以上(人或事物)的比較，其中有一個在某一方面超過其他幾個，后面可用帶有in、of、among的短語等來說明比較的范圍。形容詞最高級的前面一般要加定冠詞the，副詞最高級前的the可以省去。
例如：①The blue whale is the largest and heaviest animal in the world.
②In my country, July is the hottest month of the year.
③The cheetah runs (the) fastest among all land animals.

記住:
如果最高級前有形容詞性物主代詞或名詞所有格等修飾語時則不再用定冠詞the。
2.最高級的常用結構
(1) the + 形容詞或副詞最高級 + in / of 短語
……中最……的
例如：Tom is the tallest in his class.
Tom runs (the) fastest of all the students.
(2) 序數詞與最高級結合
例如：The Yangtze River is the third longest river in the world.
(3) one of the + 形容詞或副詞最高級 +名詞復數 表示“最……之一”
例如：Beijing is one of the largest cities in the world.
(4) 特殊疑問句中的最高級
例如：Which animal jumps the highest, the lion, the monkey, or the tree frog
