Many people are learning English. However, British English and American English are different in some ways. Let’s take a look.
Americans use “-er” instead of “-re”, such as meter and center. They do not have “u” in “-our”, like color instead of colour.
The British and Americans use different words for food, clothing, and other things. For example, the British take a cab, but Americans take a taxi.
There are differences between British English and American English,
but people can understand both.

What differences are there between British English and American English
Spelling difference: Americans use “-er” instead of “-re”, such as meter and center. They do not have “u” in “-our”, like color instead of colour. Word using difference: The British and Americans use different words for food, clothing, and other things. For example, the British take a cab, but Americans take a taxi.

however /ha 'ev (r)/ adv. 然而；不過
e.g. Life is like a box of chocolates. You never know what you’re gonna get.
人生就像一盒巧克力，你永遠不知道你會得到什么。
Language points
辨析：however與but however 副詞，“然而；不過；但是”。可以位于句首、句中和句末，且常用逗號與句子的其他部分隔開。
but 連詞，“然而；但是”。but所表示的對比非常明顯，轉折的意味較however更強。常位于所引出的分句之首，其后一般不使用逗號。
e.g. He was ill. However, he still went to work.
他病了，但他仍然去上班了。
Tom went to the party, but his brother didn’t.
湯姆去參加聚會了，但他的弟弟沒去。
2. Americans use “-er” instead of “-re”, such as meter and center.
such as 為固定短語，意為“例如；像……這樣”，表示舉例，相當于 like，后可接名詞、代詞或動名詞等。
e.g. The shop sells many kinds of fruits, such as apples, pears and bananas. 這家店賣很多種水果，例如蘋果、梨和香蕉。

e.g. Now I can walk to work instead of going by car.

辨析：
such as
后面通常接單詞或短語，不接句子。用于列舉同類中的一個或幾個。后面不能有逗號。逗號與其他部分隔開。
for example
后面常接句子。舉例是為了說明論點。for example 作插入語時，前后常有逗號，且常位于句中。
e.g. I know four languages, such as French and English.
我懂四種語言，比如法語和英語。

3. British English is different from American English in some ways.
英式英語和美式英語在一些方面不同 。
be different from 意為“與……不同；與……有差異”，反義短語為 be the same as，意為“和……相同”，二者都用于對前后兩者的比較
e.g. The weather in our city can be different from that in your city.
我們城市的天氣可能與你的城市不同。
difference 為 different 的名詞形式，意為“差別，差異”。 固定搭配：make a difference 有影響，起作用。
e.g. Reading more books can make a difference to our self-improvement. 多讀書對我們的自我提升有很大的幫助。
in some ways 在某些方面；在某種程度上
e.g. In some ways, I am quite different from my sister.
從某些方面來說,我和我姐姐很不一樣。
I can understand English:
There are only 26 letters in English, but the 26 letters can make more than one million words.
