Mom made paper animals for me
Mom was born in a small village, which is famous for paper folding art, and Mom learnt how to make paper animals. In 1967, Mom went to Hong Kong, where she met Dad. They went to the suburbs of Connecticut later. Not knowing English, she was lonely until I was born.
When I was young, Mom liked to make paper animals for me. She folded up the paper, then lifted the paper packet to her mouth and blew into it. There in her hands was a little paper tiger. It seemed that the little tiger shared her breath. This was her magic. At my request, Mom also made a goat, a deer and even a shark.
Mark, one of the neighborhood boys, came over with his Star Wars action figure. I brought out the paper tiger. Mark examined the wrapping paper pattern of the tiger's skin and said，“That doesn't look like a tiger. Is it a toy？”I had never thought of that. But looking at it again I found it was really just a piece of wrapping paper.
Later, Dad bought me a full set of Star Wars action figures. I packed the paper animals in a shoebox and put them into the corner of the attic (閣樓). Once in a while, I would see Mom at the kitchen table making new paper animals. I caught them, pressed and then put them away in the box in the attic.
Mom was also trying to learn to speak English, but her accent and broken sentences embarrassed me. I tried to correct her, but in vain. Eventually I stopped talking with her. For years, I paid no attention to Mom until one day my Dad called and told me that Mom was in hospital. Dad and I stood, one on each side of Mom.She turned to me，“Jack, just keep that box with you，and you will find it so important.”
She died several days later. Dad aged rapidly after that.The house was too big for him and had to be sold. My girlfriend Susan and I went to help him pack and clean the place.

1.故事梗概。作者的母親擅長用紙制作小動物，可是從香港遷居到康涅狄格州后，由于不懂英語，母親感到很孤獨。在作者小時候，母親最喜歡給作者做紙動物，作者很高興。可是鄰居男孩馬克給作者展示了他的星球大戰(zhàn)人偶并質(zhì)疑作者母親給作者做的紙動物不是玩具后，情況改變了。隨后父親給作者購買了全套星球大戰(zhàn)人偶，作者不再喜歡紙動物，并將它們放在閣樓的鞋盒子里。母親雖然努力學(xué)習(xí)英語，但是她的口音和斷斷續(xù)續(xù)的句子讓作者很尷尬，因此作者甚至不愿和她說話。母親病倒后，提醒了作者鞋盒的重要性，不久就去世了。作者和女朋友蘇珊在打掃房間時發(fā)現(xiàn)了閣樓中的鞋盒。

2．續(xù)寫思路。根據(jù)續(xù)寫第一段的提示句“Susan found the shoebox in the attic.”可知，蘇珊發(fā)現(xiàn)了閣樓里的鞋盒。據(jù)此可推知，該段重點描述蘇珊發(fā)現(xiàn)和欣賞母親遺留下來的紙動物藝術(shù)的過程。結(jié)合續(xù)寫第二段提示句中的“I unfolded the paper tiger”可知，本段還應(yīng)寫出作者發(fā)現(xiàn)紙老虎的經(jīng)過。

Susan found the shoebox in the attic. It was covered with dust. Susan cleaned and removed the cover. The paper animals hidden in the darkness of the attic for so long had been dusty and the bright paper patterns had faded. Susan held the paper animals carefully and admired them. She was amazed at them，“I have never seen such creative works. Your mom was an amazing artist.” In my memories the paper animals would jump and run. But now I found they couldn't move. I picked up the paper tiger.
I unfolded the paper tiger and found several lines of Chinese characters written by my mother. But I could not read Chinese. I only recognized the word “son” in Chinese. I knew it was a letter to me written by my mother.I posted the photo of the letter on my social media account in hope that somebody could read it for me. In no time it received some comments，which said it was the life story of my mother. One translated it into English. Reading the letter，I couldn't help sobbing. Through my misty eyes, I read，“wo ai ni，bao bei.”The words mean“I love you, my son.” I cried out，“I love you, Mom. I miss you, Mum.”

(2023·遼寧葫蘆島二模)It was my birthday that day, and my grandfather gave me a gift—a piggy bank. It had an opening through which one could put money in, but the opening was not big enough to reach in and get the money out. The only way to get the money was to break the piggy bank open. My grandfather explained that was the whole idea. And he added，“The piggy bank would help save your money so that, at the end of the year, you might have enough for that bike you dream about.” He asked if I would put some of the money he gave me into the piggy bank. I agreed immediately and promised sincerely，“I wouldn't break it open until I could afford my dream bike.”
Whenever my grandfather gave me some pocket money, he would say，“This is for spending. But you can save some and put it in the piggy bank if you want to save it up.” When he gave me larger amounts, it was clear for me to save the extra money in the piggy bank.For some time, this worked fine.
I loved shaking the piggy bank and hearing the sound of the coins. As it became heavier, I grew more excited, dreaming about buying my new bike and all the adventures I could have on it.
Whenever I wanted to take some money from the piggy bank to buy delicious ice creams or beautiful presents, I would imagine riding my bike on the street，and thinking of that, my thoughts about buying those things went away. So for almost three years, I had only put money into the piggy bank without taking any out. I thought I wouldn't break my piggy bank for anything except the bike. But one day something unexpected happened. I saw a piece of news on the television that a serious earthquake had happened in a nearby province. As many houses were destroyed, a lot of children became homeless. Seeing their shabby clothes and crying faces，I was sleepless that night. Staring at my piggy bank, I was thinking about what I could do with it.

Grandpa is proud of you.” He continued，“My dear grandson, you deserve that bicycle. As a bonus, let's buy that bike together now.”“Thank you, Grandpa，” I was overwhelmed with happiness. From that day on, you would always see me riding my bike on the street, leaving my hearty laughter behind.
