In times of sadness, a friend would always suggest going for a walk. “Are you overwhelmed (壓垮) by your work Take a walk around the neighborhood.” Comments like this are often said with nothing but the best of intentions, but they used to make me angry as much as being told to drink more water. I did not understand how these things were going to help.
Three years ago, I hit a low point. Once I saw a pair of empty eyes looking at me through the mirror, I knew I was at my breaking point. So, I took the advice I fought so hard to ignore. I went for a walk—with the hope that it would somehow change my life.
I embraced (擁抱) the fresh air everyone seemed to be talking about. But it did nothing. I was just as sad as I was before. I went on a walk every single day for more than a month. Some days I could hardly make it outside, but I managed to push through. I took a picture every time I went. I think I wanted to document myself trying to make an effort. One day, the unthinkable happened. I found myself smiling. I realized I had patiently waited all morning to go on this walk. What I once hated had become the best part of my day. I found myself longing to be outside. I never had a destination in mind. I just danced along the trails (小路), stopped to look at the beautiful blue skies and listened to music.
I'm glad I took pictures because there was a noticeable difference in my face. I slowly started to look less tired and defeated. I don't know why I refused to go on that walk for so long. I guess I didn't want to believe that something small and seemingly meaningless could actually make an impact on my physical and mental well-being.
If you're having a bad day, a bad month, a bad year or even a bad life, you should try going for a walk. Sometimes, all we need to do is try.

Over the past few decades, children have been taking part less in free play and more in organized sports. While participation in organized sports has both social and physical benefits for young children, concerns about safety and benefits increase as participants get younger.
Though most children are naturally likely to be physically active, not all kids are willing to get up and move. Soccer coach Joseph Luxbacher says, “Every kid has the potential (潛力) to be a good sportsman in different kinds of sports. Participating in organized sports such as the school soccer team introduces direction to children's physical activities. Following a team schedule gives kids a set time and place to exercise. As a result, kids can be safe from accidents and be protected against hurt.”
What's more, participating in organized sports gives children time to communicate with others and shows good sportsmanship. For young children who may still be very self-centered, participating in team sports teaches them to think about the group and encourages them to be happy about the success of their teammates. Kids can also benefit from spending time with their coach and having a chance to develop a positive relationship with an adult other than their parents, especially if the coach is both skilled and devoted to being a positive mentor (指導(dǎo)者).
Playing organized sports requires a lot of time for practice and games, so it would seem that this could influence students' study. Actually it can ameliorate students' test performance. That's because to play organized sports well, players have to memorize information, do repetitive actions, and learn from teammates. All these types of learning skills can make students score higher.
Though it can come from many different sources—parents, coaches, teammates or themselves—many children who participate in organized sports feel pressured to succeed. While a little stress can be helpful in leading children to perform with increased focus and strength, too much stress will leave young kids feeling very tired. Organized sports are more likely to put the right amount of pressure on them.
28.What do Joseph Luxbacher's words show?( )
A.Organized sports can achieve kids' potential.
B.Most children prefer free play to organized sports.
C.Organized sports can better secure kids from injuries.
D.Most children have a set time and place to exercise.
29.What is the third paragraph mainly about?( )
A.Kids can learn social skills by playing organized sports.
B.Kids can meet better coaches by playing organized sports.
C.Kids can show good judgement by playing organized sports.
D.Kids can better communicate with parents by playing organized sports.
30.What does the underlined word “ameliorate” mean in Paragraph 4?( )
A.Measure. B.Record.
C.Recognize. D.Improve.
31.What is the best title for the text?( )
A.How organized sports can benefit children
B.How to coach children in organized sports
C.How organized sports put pressure on children
D.How to become a good teammate in organized sports

Vegetarian foods are not equally healthy, according to a new research at ESC Congress 2020. Dr Matina said, “This finding was more clear in women. A recent research has shown that women tend to eat more plant based foods and less animal based products than men. But our study suggests this does not ensure healthier food choices and in turn better health condition.”
Most studies see plant based diets simply as “vegetarian” or “l(fā)ow in meat”, thus treating all plant foods as equal. However, this study examined the type of plant based foods eaten, in addition to the overall amount. Healthy plant based products were made up of fruits, vegetables and coffee while unhealthy plant based products included juices, potatoes and any kind of sweets.
The study examined the link between the quantity and quality of plant based foods and heart health over a 10 year period. In 2011, the study selected 146 fat adults living in Athens with normal blood pressure and blood sugar. Diet was studied using a questionnaire about usual habits in the year. It listed 156 foods and drinks commonly had in Greece. Within ten years, nearly half of these fat participants developed high blood pressure and high blood sugar, though most of them preferred plant based foods. The rest who ate quality plant based foods, however, didn't have these health problems.
Regarding the quality of plant based foods, healthier choices were linked with keeping normal blood pressure and blood sugar. On the contrary, eating unhealthy plant based foods was connected with developing high blood pressure and high blood sugar. These relationships were stronger in women compared to men.
32.What did Dr Matina say about the study?( )
A.Vegetarian foods are unhealthy.
B.Men tend to choose healthier foods.
C.Women tend to eat less plant based foods.
D.Not all plant based foods can keep you fit.
33.What do we know about the participants in this study?( )
A.Most of them living in Greece ate fatty foods.
B.They all had low blood pressure and blood sugar.
C.About half of them made healthier food choices.
D.Men were more likely to become worse in health condition.
34.What is the result of eating quality plant based foods?( )
A.It can help keep good health.
B.It has nothing to do with health.
C.It only benefits women's health.
D.It can make women stronger than men.
35.Which of the following is the best title for the text?( )
A.Are All Vegetarian Diets Healthy
B.A Balanced Diet Is Good for Your Health
C.Plant based Foods or Animal based Products
D.The More Vegetarian Foods You Eat, the Healthier You Are

When I was eleven years old, I had a big accident. I get scared even now when I think about that time. I went skating near my house. There were many people, and I saw some of them falling on the ice.
It was my first time to go ice skating, so I was nervous. I was wondering how to skate.
I went with a friend who was very skillful. He spent some time teaching me how to skate, but I didn't learn much. He left me and skated all around. As soon as he left, I fell down. I envied the other people because they could skate well.
I was bored because I kept falling so I took off my skates and just walked around on the ice in my shoes. It was cold and my hands were frozen.
Suddenly, I stepped on something that was not hard. What was it It was a weak place in the ice. When I stepped there, I sank under the ice. I thought that I was going to die, but I did my best to grab something to get out from under the ice. I tried to grab the edge of the ice, but it was very difficult for an eleven year old child.
It seemed like a very long time, like a year. Then, fortunately, someone helped me. He grabbed my arms and pulled me up. So, I lived and I'm still alive today.
I thanked him. At that time, my friend came back. I was annoyed at him because he was supposed to take care of me, but he didn't. He was embarrassed. When I took a taxi home, the taxi driver was surprised and asked what had happened. I didn't want to say anything because I was tired and scared. Even now, whenever I think about that time, I feel uncomfortable. I don't want to go skating again even now.

A reader wrote in to say that she was feeling left out at break because her best friend wasn't around. Here's our advice to her, and to all kids who feel lonely sometimes. It's hard when a best friend isn't around, maybe because she moved to a different school or a different class. You may feel lonely at break or lunchtime. You want to have new friends. But how do you make them Maybe it seems like everybody else already has their friends. But remember, there's always room for more friends. Start by looking around your classroom—think about which kids you'd like to play with at break. Look for chances to say hi to them, smile and be friendly. Offer to share something with or express your appreciation to them, invite someone to play with you or say “Do you want to sit here?” at lunchtime. If you have trouble doing this or if you're feeling shy, ask your teacher to help you make new friends. Teachers are usually pretty good at matching up friends. The best way to make friends is to be a friend. Be kind, be friendly, share, say nice things, offer to help, and pretty soon you'll have one, or two, or even more new friends.

Life Lies in Movement
Our school has taken active steps to organise a “Life Lies in Movement” campaign, aiming to help all teachers and students develop a healthier lifestyle.
To carry out this campaign, a series of activities such as fitness workshops and group exercises will be organized. We will invite professional fitness trainers to lead these activities, sharing their knowledge while providing personalized advice to get the most out of our efforts.
In my opinion, this campaign is a great proposal, as it will not only benefit our physical health but will also help improve our mental health. I wholeheartedly support it and believe that it will be a huge success.

It was long before I went skating once again, accompanied by one of my friends. This time I was careful and cautious, and my friend took special care of me. I was so fortunate this time that I managed not to fall down. Gradually I learned to skate well and became skillful. I felt very confident and no longer scared.
However, ever since then I haven't found any time to go skating, not because I do not like skating, but because I am too busy working. I've learned a lot from these two skating experiences. We all have moments of desperation. But if we can face them bravely, that's when we find out how strong we really are. Whatever you do, you must have the patience to do it as well as the skill. Remember: never get too much pride because of victory or lose heart in case of failure.
