Objective Clause (賓語從句)
在復合句中作賓語的從句叫賓語從句, 它通常位于主句謂語動詞(及物動詞)或介詞之后。賓語從句通常由從屬連詞(that / whether / if)、連接代詞(who / whom / whose / what / which)或連接副詞(when / where / how / why)引導。
Tips:
簡單句指只包含一個主謂結構, 并且句子的各個成分都只由單詞或短語構成的獨立句子或者是分句。例如:
I don’t like the film. (主語:I, 謂語:don’t like, 賓語:the film)
復合句包含一個主句、一個或一個以上的從句; 或只包含一個從句, 但有兩個或兩個以上的主句。例如:
We know he likes English.

由that引導的賓語從句
當賓語從句是陳述句時, 用that引導。that無詞義, 在從句中不充當成分, 在口語和非正式文體中常常省略。

當主句的主語是第一人稱(I / we), 并且謂語動詞是think, guess, believe, suppose等時, 如果賓語從句要表達否定意思, 一般將否定轉移到主句上來, 即“否定前移”。

that在賓語從句中的省略與保留
a. 在主語+謂語+it(形式賓語)+賓補+that從句(真正賓語)的句
型中不省略。
We must make it clear that we mean what we say.
b. 由連詞and連接的兩個由that引導的賓語從句中,第二個that
不省略。
He told me (that) he would come and that he would come on time.
c.當that作介詞except, in等的賓語時不省略。
They believe in that she must still be single.

由if / whether引導的賓語從句
當賓語從句的語義相當于一個一般疑問句時, 常用if / whether引導, 表示 “是否” 。if / whether在句中不充當句子成分, 但不能省略。

由if / whether引導的賓語從句
一般情況下二者沒有區別, 可以互換。但是以下情況不可互換:
whether之后緊跟or not時不可與if互換。
Nobody knows whether or not it will rain tomorrow.
在介詞后只能用whether不能用if。
The boy worries about whether he has broken his computer.
與動詞不定式連用時, 只能用whether不能用if。
I can’t decide whether to go or to stay.
賓語從句的語序
無論主句是陳述句還是疑問句,賓語從句都用陳述句的語序,即“主語在前,謂語在后”的順序。

賓語從句的時態
當主句是一般現在時,賓語從句的時態不作限制,我們可以根據句子的意思來使用需要的任何一種時態。

當主句是一般過去時的時候,賓語從句必須運用相應的過去的某一種時態,從而達到主句和從句的相互一致。例如,把左側的四句話變為賓語從句是:

He has finished his work.

He had finished his work.
He would go to Hong Kong.
He was sick.
He was reading a book.
當賓語從句說明的是客觀存在的事實或者是客觀存在的真理時就不用受到主句時態的限制,仍是用一般現在時態。
