information, why store it in your own personal memory — your brain Experts are wondering if the Internet is changing what we remember and how.In a recent study, Professor Betsy Sparrow conducted some experiments. She and her research team wanted to know whether the Internet is changing memory. In the first experiment, they gave people 40 unimportant facts to type into a computer. The first group of people understood that the computer would save the information. The second group understood that the computer would not save it.Later, the second group remembered the information better.People in the first group knew they could find the information again, so they did not try to remember it.In another experiment, the researchers gave people facts to remember, and told them where to find the information on the Internet. The information was in a specific computer folder (文件夾).Surprisingly, people later remembered the folder location better than the facts. When people use the Internet, they do not remember the information.Rather, they remember how to find it.This is called “transactive (交互) memory”.According to Sparrow, we are not becoming people with poor memory as a result of the Internet.Instead, computer users are developing stronger transactive memory;that is, people are learning how to organize huge quantities of information so that they are able to access it at a later date. This doesn't mean we are becoming either more or less intelligent, but there is no doubt that the way we use memory is changing.Questions:1.Please summarize the main idea in 30 words. 2.Do you think we will become poor memory people because of the Internet Section 10 聚焦單元主題活動·發展語言交際技能Listening (一)1~2 CB(二)1.F 2.F 3.T(三)①morning training ②advertise ③outdoors④heavy weights ⑤Healthy diet ⑥six but because of lacking experience, no one wanted to employ him. Finally, he found a large drugstore chain with an in house advertising unit and offered to work without getting any pay. They took him up on the offer.David worked hard, and within weeks he gained professional experience and the drugstore decided to pay him for his efforts. After working for a number of advertising agencies, David went on to open his own graphics design and photography business. Now he is a successful businessman. But he often looks back on the offer to work without pay.“I just needed an opportunity, a start in this heavy weights. So I like to use real things which you can find around your house or garden. My business is still at the developing stage, and the same goes for my website. At the moment, it's just advertising what I do.It's also got some pages of advice about training.Healthy diet is next on my list for the website, although I haven't started that yet.Within six months, I hope to have some mean we have poorer memory. We are developing transactive memory to organize information.2.The Internet provides easy access to information, which may lead some people to rely on it instead of remembering. However, this doesn't necessarily mean we will become poor memory people. The way we use memory is changing, and developing transactive memory can help us organize and access information more effectively.Whether we will have poorer memory depends on how we use and balance the Internet and our own cognitive abilities.3 / 3(共55張PPT)Section 10 聚焦單元主題活動 發展語言交際技能目 錄1 語言技能 Listening2 語言技能
