In other words, saying you are sorry does not make the person being rejected feel any better. In fact, it might make the rejected person feel worse. That is surprising. Many people consider it to be good manners to say they are sorry when they turn down a request.Gili Freedman is doing some related research at Dartmouth College. For her research, she asked over 1,000 people to respond to different examples of social rejection. In one example, the researchers asked people for their reaction after a person named Taylor asked to join a co worker who went out to lunch every Friday. And Taylor was told “no”. But in some cases, the person rejecting Taylor offered an apology. In other cases, the people doing the rejection did not say they were sorry. People were asked how they would feel if they were being turned down, just as Taylor was. Most said they would be more hurt by a rejection with an apology than a rejection without an apology.Freedman said the reason is that apologies make people feel like they need to say that the rejection was okay—even when they felt like it was not okay. Rejection without an apology lets them express their feelings of disappointment, hurt or anger more easily. Freedman also said that an apology often makes the person doing the rejection feel better—even as it makes the person being rejected feel worse.Her research deals only with social communication. A business situation might be very different. “If a manager rejects a job interviewee or a boss must tell an employee that he or she is being fired from a job,” Freedman said, “reactions to apologies may be different.”閱讀自測1.In Gili Freedman's research, over 1,000 people .A.rejected others without an apologyB.offered an apology when rejecting othersC.would be more hurt by a rejection with an apologyD.were asked to answer the question in different situationsD2.What will be mentioned(提及) next according to the last paragraph ______A.The effect of an apology during a rejection.B.Gili Freedman's research on business situations.C.A rejection with an apology in a business situation.D.The difference between a social situation and a business one.C長難句分析1.In other words, saying you are sorry does not make the person being rejected feel any better.分析:句中saying you are sorry 是動(dòng)名詞短語作主語, 后半句中being rejected是現(xiàn)在分詞作后置定語,修飾 the person。2.Freedman said the reason is that apologies make people feel like they need to say that the rejection was okay—even when they felt like it was not okay.分析:本句是復(fù)合句, said后面是賓語從句,句中make people feel like是make sb.do sth.結(jié)構(gòu),后面that the rejection was okay是作say的賓語。必備知識(shí) 巧記活用(一)分類識(shí)記單詞——會(huì)認(rèn)重點(diǎn)單詞識(shí)記1. adv.有點(diǎn),有幾分2. adj.內(nèi)疚的,慚愧的3. n.自制力;自我控制4. n.警告,警示;告誡5. n.齊聲;副歌;合唱團(tuán)6. adj.無提防之心的,無疑心的n.炸彈8. n.國界,邊境somewhatashamedself controlwarningchorusunsuspectingbombfrontier重點(diǎn)單詞識(shí)記9. n.平民,老百姓10. n.病房11. n.儀式,典禮12. n.(尤指不平常的、重要的或暴力的)事件13. n.煙葉,煙草14. n.香煙15. n.含酒精飲品;酒16. adj.油炸的,油煎的17. adj.神圣的civilianwardceremonyincidenttobaccocigarettealcoholfriedsacred核心單詞練通1. adj.禮貌而友善的,和藹可親的2. adj.著迷的,有強(qiáng)烈興趣的3. vi.& vt.(使)擔(dān)心,(使)生氣,(使)苦惱4. vi.& vt.哭泣,流(淚)5. vi.& vt.祈求;祈禱6. vt.展示,陳列pleasantkeenbotherweeppraydisplay核心單詞練通7. n.子夜,午夜8. num.一打9. n.(尤指不平常的、重要的或暴力的)事件10. adj.不正確的,錯(cuò)的;假的,不真實(shí)的midnightdozenincidentfalse核心單詞練通單詞拼寫1.(2024·新課標(biāo)Ⅱ卷)By connecting through the Cloud, BMF is remotely (監(jiān)控).2.It makes no difference to me whether he will go to the city or not. slow,” my husband said as I was trying to focus. We frequently stepped on each other's feet. Both of us were being rhythmically challenged, and we figured a series of lessons might help us look somewhat elegant on the floor. However, it didn't.It didn't matter that the lessons didn't pay off. Our learning something new together gave us a string of good memories, such as taking a Thai cooking class on a cold Chicago night and learning how to make classic cocktails (雞尾酒) in a common bar. These experiences are my best memoriesfrom the past 10 years. We always have such a great time when we're trying something new together. It seems to have strengthened our relationship, and makes me feel like we have a closer connection.It turns out that my theory is backed by research. One study shows that learning new things with your spouse (配偶), friends, or partners, can strengthen your connection or friendship. But how exactly does this work The key is vulnerability (弱點(diǎn)). “Learning new things together strengthens bonds because it is at those moments that we can show our vulnerability toone another,” says Dr. Hisla Bates. When we are learning a new task, misfortunes and failures are bound to happen. In those moments when we fail, the other party can be there in favor of us. We can work together to find a solution, and working together helps deepen the connection.The benefits gained from learning new things with your partner can come from activities as small as hiking, trying a new recipe, going boating in the local lake or taking a fitness class together. You don't have to go bungee jumping or skydiving to grow closer. Try selecting activities that both partners are unfamiliar with, as this will ensure you're on the same page.Trying to learn something new together once a month will benefit you and your spouse or friends. Overall, some of my best memories with my husband are the moments when we are learning something new together.閱讀自測1.What can we learn from the author's experiences _____A.Practice makes perfect.B.Good is a saying we should bear in mind—“Friends are lost by calling often and calling seldom.” This saying tells a simple but easily overlooked fact about friendship—there should be some social distances between friends.Once, I had a very close friend, with whom I could tell all my secrets.And vice versa.We all took it for granted that this could improve our relationship.However, with time going by, we found that we had nothing to share and awkward silence appeared.After that, we agreed that we should keep a certain social distance to find our relationship back.Now, we become good friends again But what would you get if you combined this biological computer with a real one Researchers at Indiana University Bloomington in the US have linked human brain like tissues to an electronic chip, which can perform simple computer tasks.Their creation, named Brainoware, is part of a growing field called biological computing that might one day do better than current computers, according to Nature.The brain like tissues the researchers used, also known as brain organoids (類器官), weren't part of a living person's brain. They were “grown” from human stem cells, which are capable of producing different types of cells and forming body tissues. It took two months for the stem cells to mature into an organoid.The researchers then placed one organoid onto an electronic chip with thousands of electrodes (電極). Although organoids are much simpler and smaller than an actual brain, they act similarly to human brains, such as responding to electrical signals, which is what our brain does all the time. These responses lead to changes in the brain, which fuel our ability to learn.To test Brainoware, the researchers used it for voice recognition by training it with 240 Japanese recordings spoken by eight speakers. They found that the organoid reacted differently toward each voice. With an accuracy of 78 percent, it successfully identified the speakers by showing different neural (神經(jīng)的) activities.What's special about Brainoware is that researchers can take advantage of the organoid's complexity without understanding its cell networks, according to Daily Mail. In other words, scientists don't need to know exactly how the organoid works in order to use it.According to the researchers' work published in December, combining organoids and electronic chips could increase the speed and efficiency of AI in the future. Also, such models can be used to study human brains, according to Nature. Using Brainoware to model and study neurological disorders, such as Alzheimer's disease, is one example. It could also be used to test the effects of different treatments for such diseases. “That's where the promise is: using these to one day hopefully replace animal models of the brain,” Arti Ahluwalia, a researcher in Italy, told Nature.閱讀自測1. he just gave me the impression that he could do whatever project we dreamed up better if he did it alone.Needless to say, I didn't look forward to an entire term of being brushed off, but I tried to make the best of it and didn't say anything for fear that I would make things worse.The project required each team to develop a hypothesis(假說), set up an experiment to test the hypothesis, do the statistical analysis (數(shù) 據(jù)分析)and present the findings.Whatever grade the team received would be shared by both students.When my teammate and I met to discuss our project, I was uneasy.Here was this challenging student who had a reputation for concentration and good grades—the exact opposite of me.I was completely at a disadvantage.I actually wanted to drop the class at one point, but stopped shortly because Ididn't want to give him the satisfaction of my chickening out and giving up halfway.I decided to stick to it no matter what happened.After long discussions we somehow agreed to do a study on the mental well being (健 康)of teenagers.I wasn't sure what it meant exactly, but at least we had a topic.注意:續(xù)寫詞數(shù)應(yīng)為150個(gè)左右。We started to meet regularly to draw up our plans.One day I got word that he was admitted to hospital for a serious disease.Step 1 快讀文本 獲取信息故事發(fā)展線索:學(xué)渣的我被分配到了一個(gè)學(xué)霸搭檔→我感覺他對(duì)我的態(tài)度就好像我會(huì)拖他的后腿一樣,但我不想中途退出→我決定堅(jiān)持到底→經(jīng)過商量,我們最終同意做青少年心理健康這個(gè)話題Step 2 細(xì)讀首句 合理推測1.針對(duì)續(xù)寫段首1:We started to meet regularly to draw up our plans.設(shè)問:(1)What happened during the process (2)Did my partner helped me during the process (3)How did our project going 2.針對(duì)續(xù)寫段首2:One day I got word that he was admitted to hospital for a serious disease.設(shè)問:(1)How did I feel when my partner was ill (2)What did I do when I knew he was in hospital (3)What about our project What did I do for it Step 3 恰當(dāng)用詞 打造靚句1. , I still had no sense of participating in the project.我雖然是項(xiàng)目中的一員,但我仍然沒有參與項(xiàng)目的感覺。2.My teammate kept his brain occupied in developing the hypothesis, ________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________.我的隊(duì)友在絞盡腦汁地發(fā)展這個(gè)假設(shè),建立一個(gè)實(shí)驗(yàn)來測試它,然后獨(dú)自運(yùn)行測試,留下我只是站在他旁邊,好像我是個(gè)傻瓜。Companion as I was in the projectsetting up an experiment to test it,and running the tests alone, leaving me just standing beside him as if I were a fool3. , the whole procedure went smoothly, close to the final stage.多虧了這個(gè)競爭激烈、異常認(rèn)真的家伙,整個(gè)過程進(jìn)展順利,接近最后階段。4._______________________________________________________________________________________________, I felt a sense of sympathy and mercy welling up in my heart.看到那個(gè)臉色蒼白的家伙穿著純白的衣服,而不是煩人的深色衣服,我感到一種同情和憐憫在我心中涌動(dòng)。Thanks to the fiercely competitive, singularly serious fellowSeeing the pale fellow wearing pure white clothes instead of the annoying dark clothes5. such an amazing and persuasive study .事實(shí)證明,這是一項(xiàng)如此驚人和有說服力的研究,我和我的隊(duì)友確實(shí)贏得了最好的成績。It turned out to bethat my teammate and I did win the best gradeStep 4 銜接過渡 組句成篇參考范文:We started to meet regularly to draw up our panion as I was in the project, I still had no sense of participating in the project.My teammate kept his brain occupied in developing the hypothesis, setting up an experiment to test it, and running the tests alone, leaving me just standingbeside him as if I were a fool.“What a dull project it is!”I murmured to myself.However, something changed gradually, as I became aware what the tactile kinesthetic perception of space meant.Thanks to the fiercely competitive, singularly serious fellow, the whole procedure went smoothly, close to the final stage.One day I got word that he was admitted to hospital for a serious disease.Without any delay, I packed up my school bag, took all the experiment statistics and rushed to the hospital.Seeing the pale fellow wearing pure whiteclothes instead of the annoying dark clothes, I felt a sense of sympathy and mercy welling up in my heart.With his guidance, I finished the statistical analysis and presented the findings.It turned out to be such an amazing and persuasive study that my teammate and I did win the best grade.Now, we have been most reliable cooperative partners ever since!Ⅱ.微型寫作——續(xù)寫提能練教材語料整合亮詞 [性格品質(zhì)描寫]gifted;
