When
用從句來表達一件事情或一個行為發生的時間, 這個從句就叫時間狀語從句。
不同的引導詞引導的時間狀語從句的意思也不同，常見的引導詞有when，while，before，after，until，since和as soon as。
狀語從句 (1)：時間狀語從句
1. when 引導的時間狀語從句
When“當……時候”引導的時間狀語從句既可以表示點時間，也可以表示時間的延續，即表示一段時間，因此從句的謂語動詞既可以是瞬間動詞，也可以是延續性動詞。此外，從句的動作既可與主句的動作同時發生，也可先后發生。
e.g. When the weather is fine, many people go out for a walk.
When I got home, I found my baby girl singing in the sitting room.
while引導的時間狀語從句表示時間的延續，即表示一段時間，因此從句的謂語動詞用持續性動詞或狀態動詞，且持續性動詞常用進行時態。此外，主句的動作發生在從句所表示的時間段之內或主從句動作同時發生。
2. while引導的時間狀語從句
e.g. Jenny went to the movies while I was having a class.
While they were crossing the Atlantic, many people died.
3. before/after引導的時間狀語從句
before “在……之前”。
after “在……之后”。
e.g. Before we begin dinner, my father gives thanks for the food.
Mother sometimes prepares dinner after I come back from school.
4. as soon as引導的時間狀語從句
as soon as “一……就……”，強調主句的動作緊跟著從句的動作發生。如果主句是一般將來時，as soon as引導的時間狀語從句要用一般現在時表示將來。
e.g. I’ll send you an email as soon as I get there.
He began to work as soon as we got there.
5. since引導的時間狀語從句
since“自從；自……以來” ，多數情況下主句用完成時，從句用一般過去時。
e.g. Miss Li has lived in Shanghai since she came to China.
I have known Bill since he was born.
He has studied very hard since he came to our school.
6. until引導的時間狀語從句
until“直到……時；到……為止”，它表示動作或狀態一直持續到某一時刻。
e.g. He waited until all the guests left.
I will wait until you finish all the work.

Dragon Boat Festival is on the fifth day of the fifth month on the traditional Chinese calendar. There’s a traditional folk story about this festival. Long ago a man named Qu Yuan wanted to make his country much stronger, but he failed. On the fifth day of the fifth month on the traditional Chinese calendar in 278 BC, he jumped into the Miluo River and ended his life. People were sad and threw rice into the water. Since then people have celebrated the Dragon Boat Festival. On that day people eat zongzi and race dragon boats in memory of Qu Yuan.
