　　Nickenson Chery began at Florida National University （FNU） in 2008 as a radiology major.Midway through his career， Nickenson had a change of heart and switched to Health Services Administration after realizing he’d prefer a more “behind-the-scenes” approach to the medical field.While ultimately being the right move， the career change came with adversity （逆境）：“I spent entire nights awake studying and doing homework.I’d consistently go to bed at 2 or 3 am， only to wake up early the next day and start over.” The hard work eventually paid off as Nickenson graduated from FNU with his Bachelor’s Degree in 2015.
　　When asked about his experience and impression of his time at FNU， he said：“I truly loved FNU.It was a great experience.I always felt at home and part of a family.If you need any help， professors and staff are always available.They give you all the tools necessary to get your work done and succeed.If it wasn’t for FNU， I wouldn’t be where I am today.I’ll always recommend FNU to anyone looking for a great education， regardless of what they want to study.”
　　Nickenson’s journey was just beginning， taking a long road that led him across the country searching for the perfect career.It started here in South Florida， serving as an intern （實習醫生） at Aventura Hospital.When that didn’t lead to a long-term option， he moved to Las Vegas for a short amount of time， only to leave there as well and end up in his current home， Boston.Nickenson Chery now works at Boston Children’s Hospital Trust， proving that no matter the odds or the struggles one faces， perseverance （毅力） and hard work will lead you to success.

　　Belfast’s “Big Fish” has been providing locals and tourists with photo opportunities on the bank of the River Lagan since 1999.It was designed by native artist John Kindness，and is a representation of Irish legendary Salmon of Knowledge （知識鮭魚）.
　　As the legend goes， Finn McCool was sent to learn from wise old poet Finnegas， who had spent seven years fishing the River Boyne for the Salmon of Knowledge before he caught it.The fish was said to have acquired all its wisdom after eating hazelnuts （榛子） from a tree that contained knowledge after falling into the Well of Wisdom.
　　The poet planned to eat the salmon and asked young Finn to get it ready.But as the boy cooked the salmon he burned his thumb and after putting his thumb in his mouth to ease the pain， acquired all its knowledge.It is said all this wisdom allowed Finn McCool to become the leader of famed mythological heroes the Fianna.
　　John Kindness’ Big Fish is said to be his interpretation of the Salmon of Knowledge and each of the public artwork’s scales “tells a story about the city”.It also contains a time capsule storing information， images， and poetry on Belfast.
　　The city icon was funded （資助） by Laganside Corporation， which was set up to regenerate the riverside in 1989， and the Big Lottery Fund through the Arts Council of Northern Ireland.It was commissioned in 1999 to celebrate the regeneration of the River Lagan and the historic importance of the site where the River Farset， which gave Belfast its name， flows into it.Once flowing freely， the River Farset is now buried beneath the city’s Castle Street and High Street， but still flows into the Lagan through a tunnel.

　　Included in UNESCO’s Intangible Cultural Heritage list， Chinese shadow puppetry （皮影戲） is considered one of the nation’s oldest forms of material performance.Annie Katsura Rollins， who is based in Toronto and researching Chinese shadow puppetry， has spent years developing an expertise in Chinese shadow puppetry and making great efforts to help it survive a battle with cultural changes， urbanization， and modern forms of entertainment.
　　“There’s an antediluvial understanding of what tradition is，” says Rollins.“We think it’s old and what once was.Actually， traditions are always changing in history and we just fail to witness it.To survive， the tradition needs to be with the present and be looking toward the future.”
　　Rollins was in charge of the exhibition “Immaterial Remains：Can You Preserve a Shadow？”， which aimed to not only display the art form but also focus on the question of how to preserve shadow puppetry in China.In the exhibition， the finely carved details of clothing， facial features， and hair were obvious in the shadows of the puppets， which were in motion （運動） as air flowed， bringing them to life on the walls.Samples of the dried cowhide （牛皮） used to make the puppets were available for visitors to touch and feel.A video demonstrated how the puppets are made and operated.Rollins notes，“If you can eat with chopsticks， you too can work a shadow puppet.”
　　She says learning from master puppeteers in small villages remains the best way to transfer the traditions of Chinese shadow puppetry into the future， which she describes as practitioner-led （由從業者主導的） creativity.“I think that is the key to really keeping the form growing， developing， and relevant with current society and culture，” Rollins says.“We need to emphasize live performance as a method of preservation so that every time it’s performed， it’s being continued in its original form rather than in pictures or videos.Those things only show part of what a live performance is.”

designed by native artist John Kindness，and is a representation of Irish
