Task — Make a speech about yourself
Step 1
Look at the thinking map in Starting out and think: has your idea about yourself changed
Has your ideas about yourself changed
Looks: I used to dislike my freckles, thinking they made me look odd. Now, I see them as unique, like little stars on my face.
Likes and dislikes: I once hated running, finding it tiring. But after joining the school sports club, I started enjoying the endorphin rush. And I’ve grown to love classical music, which I used to find boring.

Personality: I was super shy, avoiding group talks. Through class projects, I’ve become more outgoing, realizing sharing ideas is great.

Abilities: I thought I was bad at art. But when I tried painting for a school event, I discovered a talent. Now, I’m proud of my creative skills.

Looks: I have long, wavy hair and big, bright eyes. I’m of average build, and I think my smile is my best feature.

Likes and dislikes: I like reading fantasy novels—they take me to amazing worlds. I love eating chocolate; its sweetness always cheers me up. But I dislike loud noises, as they make me feel uneasy.

Personality: I’m a curious person. I always ask “why” and love exploring new things. I used to be shy, but now I can confidently talk to new people.

Abilities: I have got good at painting. I’ve drawn a beautiful school mural for the first time, which made me really proud. I can also play the guitar decently, and I often play for my friends.

Reasons for changes: One reason for my becoming more outgoing is joining the school art club. There, I met many creative people. I’ve learnt to accept my imperfections, like not being the best at everything, and that’s made me happier.

Speech Structure（演講結(jié)構(gòu)）
Introduction（引言）：State purpose（表明目的），e.g. “My understanding of myself has changed...”
Body（主體）：
Describe: looks, likes & dislikes, personality, abilities（描述外貌、喜好、性格、能力等 ），e.g. “I have got...”; “I used to..., but now I can...”
Explain reasons（解釋變化原因），e.g. “One reason for... is...”
Conclusion（結(jié)論）：Comment on self（自我總結(jié)），e.g. “I have learnt that I am what I am.”
