My name is Michelle Rogers. For most of my life I had been fighting with my body weight.I was either gaining weight or trying to lose it.I wasn’t happy with myself, and I certainly wasn’t able to fully enjoy life. Not only did I feel bad physically, but I felt terrible emotionally.I also knew I wasn’t able to be the best I could be, and with failure after failure in losing weight, I just felt so hopeless to make it.
One day in 2008, I was looking through ads online and saw a treadmill (跑步機) for $100.This time I decided to start small and keep it doable. The first week I started walking 15 minutes on the treadmill at a fixed time every day.The next week I did 16 minutes. Each week I added a minute.Gradually, I increased speed as well as time.Once I got to 30 minutes, the weight started dropping off.
I didn’t lose weight at first, but I didn’t give up like I did in the past.I realized I started feeling better. My legs were getting stronger.I didn’t feel painful like I used to when I got up from my desk. All the efforts I’d been putting into fitness made me want to start eating healthier, too.I began with small changes as well. After these years I started listening to my body.It was refusing food and habits that were bad for me.
Today, the extra weight is gone.I still exercise every morning.I look and feel the best I have never done.Every area of my life has improved and benefited from this change in me.Not only do I have my youthful energy, looks and health back, but I also have more confidence than I have ever had.

Text messaging, or simply “texting”, which allows people to send and receive messages on mobile phones, becomes very popular today.
The advantages of texting are obvious.Texting helps to save money. If you have a few words to greet your families and friends on their birthdays or on some important festivals, sending messages can be cheaper than phone calling.Texting helps to save time.Even if you want to send a message to 100 people, you can do it one second.Texting helps you to “talk” to someone when he is too busy to answer the phone.Texting can also help you to “talk” to someone secretly if you don’t want others to hear what you are talking on the phone. These advantages are so amazing that many people are crazy about it.They hold mobile phones in hands all day long, send dozens of messages each day, and even text while driving or walking.
However, texting has its disadvantages.Junk messages may come into your mobile phone box now and then. When your phone box gets too full, you can’t receive any more messages. You may therefore miss some important information.
What’s more, if you don’t do texting properly, for example texting while driving or walking, it can be dangerous. It can cause injuries and even death. It was reported that about 6,000 people were killed and half a million were injured for this reason each year.In Fort Lee, a small town in New Jersey, USA, three people died because they walked into traffic while texting in 2011.Two researchers at Stony Brook University, New York found that texters are 60% more probably to have an accident than others. When people are texting, they don’t notice other people or things around them.To reduce traffic accidents, all drivers of the UN are now not allowed to text while driving.About 32 countries have passed laws restricting the use of mobile phones while driving.
Texting is a wonderful way of communication. However, only when we use it properly, can we fully enjoy the fun it brings.

People who live far away from the ocean sometimes never get the chance to go to the beach and play in the water. An educational program in Australia is changing that for aboriginal (澳大利亞土著的) children from the bush (an area of wild land), letting them see and swim in the ocean for the first time.
Bush to Beach, founded in 2006 by Jack Cannons, brings kids from Brewarrina and nearby areas in northwest New South Wales (NSW) to South Narrabeen Beach near Sydney for a three-day surf camp to learn new skills and build confidence in an environment that is totally new to them.
Through a partnership with the South Narrabeen Surf Life Saving Club, over 600 children took the 10-hour bus ride to visit the beach.Only children who have good school attendance and behavior can take part in the program. The children have fun in the sun, learning how to swim and surf, but most importantly, they learn CPR (a life-saving method) and water safety rules.
Despite spending all those hours on a bus, the kids were very happy to be at the beach.Nine-year-old Hazel was excited to collect shells and go for a swim.“My town is small but here it’s big.We don’t have a beach at Brewarrina,” she said.“I went surfing and I saw many different sea animals.”
The kids gain so much from the program, and so do the volunteers.Brian Grundy, a local South Narrabeen surf lifesaver, said that the program has an “amazing” effect on the kids, and helps encourage them to achieve goals, including higher education.
Cannons was very pleased with the success of the program and said that he wanted to expand it to more NSW communities in the next two years. He said,“I want this to go right around the country, surf clubs and communities forming partnerships with bush towns and developing friendships.”

D.recommend a new lifestyle to people
13.What did Hazel think of her taking part in the program?

Mistakes I Made While Trying to Lose Weight
In this article, I’m going to share with you several mistakes I made on my quest to lose weight.
I started to skip breakfast. Most people trying to lose weight believe simply eating less and skipping meals can help get rid of the fat. 16 And in fact, breakfast is easily burnt throughout the day.
I bought diet food. When I went shopping, I always looked for the foods marked diet, low-fat, healthy, etc. 17 I bought these foods because in my mind it meant I could buy more.I would totally pay no attention to the amount of the food.If you eat any food too much, you’re not doing yourself any favors.
18 Eating salad is a good way of keeping my calorie intake down. But I found that only a moment after my meals, I was looking for more food.I learnt that I was better off eating a balanced meal with few more calories than simply eating a salad and snacking afterwards.
I was too awkward to go to the gym.Joining a gym was one of the hardest things I ever did.I was always worried that people in the gym would be staring at me and talking about me.I really thought I was too fat to join.My advice is to join a gym! 19
I set my goals too high.Setting long-term goals is great, but these goals always seem too far off.You need to set smaller, more reachable goals. 20 Set yourself weekly and monthly goals.
Once you meet one short-term goal, set a new one for next week.
A.I thought I’d always be fat.
B.I promise you’ll be glad you do.
C.But it doesn’t keep you full for long.
D.I started eating salads as main meals.
E.But I was buying these foods for the wrong reason.
F.However, if so, you’re much more likely to eat more for lunch.
G.So you can achieve them now and then and cheer yourself up.

We know following the restaurant’s account lets us receive information about its new dishes and special offers. It also makes us stay in touch with its community. However, I think this rule is not fair to everyone. Not everyone has WeChat or wants to use it.Besides, it makes ordering more difficult, which can upset customers.
I think restaurants should respect customers’ preferences and not force them to follow their accounts.

My name is Michelle Rogers. For most of my life I had been fighting
with my body weight.I was either gaining weight or trying to lose it.I
wasn’t happy with myself, and I certainly wasn’t able to fully enjoy
life. Not only did I feel bad physically, but I felt terrible emotionally.I
also knew I wasn’t able to be the best I could be, and with failure after
failure in losing weight, I just felt so hopeless to make it.
One day in 2008, I was looking through ads online and saw a
treadmill (跑步機) for $100.This time I decided to start small and keep
it doable. The first week I started walking 15 minutes on the treadmill at a
fixed time every day.The next week I did 16 minutes.Each week I added a
minute.Gradually, I increased speed as well as time.Once I got to 30
minutes, the weight started dropping off.
I didn’t lose weight at first, but I didn’t give up like I did in the
past.I realized I started feeling better. My legs were getting stronger.I
didn’t feel painful like I used to when I got up from my desk. All the
efforts I’d been putting into fitness made me want to start eating
healthier, too.I began with small changes as well. After these years I
started listening to my body.It was refusing food and habits that were bad
for me.
Today, the extra weight is gone.I still exercise every morning.I
look and feel the best I have never done.Every area of my life has
improved and benefited from this change in me.Not only do I have my

Text messaging, or simply “texting”, which allows people to
send and receive messages on mobile phones, becomes very popular
today.
The advantages of texting are obvious.Texting helps to save
money. If you have a few words to greet your families and friends on their
birthdays or on some important festivals, sending messages can be
cheaper than phone calling.Texting helps to save time.Even if you want to
send a message to 100 people, you can do it one second.Texting helps
you to “talk” to someone when he is too busy to answer the
phone.Texting can also help you to “talk” to someone secretly if you
don’t want others to hear what you are talking on the phone. These
advantages are so amazing that many people are crazy about it.They hold
mobile phones in hands all day long, send dozens of messages each
day, and even text while driving or walking.
However, texting has its disadvantages.Junk messages may come
into your mobile phone box now and then. When your phone box gets too
full, you can’t receive any more messages. You may therefore miss
some important information.
What’s more, if you don’t do texting properly, for example
texting while driving or walking, it can be dangerous. It can cause
injuries and even death. It was reported that about 6,000 people were
killed and half a million were injured for this reason each year.In Fort
Lee, a small town in New Jersey, USA, three people died because
they walked into traffic while texting in 2011.Two researchers at Stony
Brook University, New York found that texters are 60% more probably to
have an accident than others. When people are texting, they don’t
notice other people or things around them.To reduce traffic accidents, all
drivers of the UN are now not allowed to text while driving.About 32
countries have passed laws restricting the use of mobile phones while
driving.
Texting is a wonderful way of communication. However, only when
we use it properly, can we fully enjoy the fun it brings.

People who live far away from the ocean sometimes never get the
chance to go to the beach and play in the water. An educational program in
Australia is changing that for aboriginal (澳大利亞土著的) children
from the bush (an area of wild land), letting them see and swim in the
ocean for the first time.
Bush to Beach, founded in 2006 by Jack Cannons, brings kids
from Brewarrina and nearby areas in northwest New South Wales
(NSW) to South Narrabeen Beach near Sydney for a three-day surf
camp to learn new skills and build confidence in an environment that is
totally new to them.
Through a partnership with the South Narrabeen Surf Life Saving
Club, over 600 children took the 10-hour bus ride to visit the beach.Only
children who have good school attendance and behavior can take part in
the program. The children have fun in the sun, learning how to swim and
surf, but most importantly, they learn CPR (a life-saving method)
and water safety rules.
Despite spending all those hours on a bus, the kids were very happy
to be at the beach.Nine-year-old Hazel was excited to collect shells and go
for a swim.“My town is small but here it’s big.We don’t have a beach
at Brewarrina,” she said.“I went surfing and I saw many different sea
animals.”
The kids gain so much from the program, and so do the
volunteers.Brian Grundy, a local South Narrabeen surf lifesaver, said
that the program has an “amazing” effect on the kids, and helps
encourage them to achieve goals, including higher education.
Cannons was very pleased with the success of the program and said
that he wanted to expand it to more NSW communities in the next two
years. He said,“I want this to go right around the country, surf clubs
and communities forming partnerships with bush towns and developing
friendships.”

Mistakes I Made While Trying to Lose Weight
In this article, I’m going to share with you several mistakes I made
on my quest to lose weight.
I started to skip breakfast. Most people trying to lose weight believe
simply eating less and skipping meals can help get rid of the fat. 16
And in fact, breakfast is easily burnt throughout the day.
I bought diet food. When I went shopping, I always looked for the
foods marked diet, low-fat, healthy, etc. 17 I bought these foods
because in my mind it meant I could buy more.I would totally pay no
attention to the amount of the food.If you eat any food too much,
you’re not doing yourself any favors.
18 Eating salad is a good way of keeping my calorie intake
down. But I found that only a moment after my meals, I was looking for
more food.I learnt that I was better off eating a balanced meal with few
more calories than simply eating a salad and snacking afterwards.
I was too awkward to go to the gym.Joining a gym was one of the
hardest things I ever did.I was always worried that people in the gym
would be staring at me and talking about me.I really thought I was too fat
to join.My advice is to join a gym! 19
I set my goals too high.Setting long-term goals is great, but these
goals always seem too far off.You need to set smaller, more reachable
goals. 20 Set yourself weekly and monthly goals.
Once you meet one short-term goal, set a new one for next week.
A. I thought I’d always be fat.
B. I promise you’ll be glad you do.
C. But it doesn’t keep you full for long.
D. I started eating salads as main meals.
E. But I was buying these foods for the wrong reason.
F. However, if so, you’re much more likely to eat more for lunch.
G. So you can achieve them now and then and cheer yourself up.

參考范文:
I went to a restaurant with my family last weekend. We were required
to follow the restaurant’s WeChat Official Account before ordering.I
found this requirement interesting but puzzling.
We know following the restaurant’s account lets us receive
information about its new dishes and special offers. It also makes us stay in
touch with its community. However, I think this rule is not fair to
everyone. Not everyone has WeChat or wants to use it.Besides, it makes
ordering more difficult, which can upset customers.
I think restaurants should respect customers’ preferences and not
force them to follow their accounts.
