Thimpson went out， Paul turned to Steve， sighing in relief， “Phew！
That was close.Steve， you’re right.I don’t know what got into me
just now.In fact， Mrs Thimpson always makes me cakes and cookies.”
Then they got down to cleaning the garage quickly and before long they
found themselves at the table enjoying big slices of chocolate cake and a
glass of milk each.
　　As they wolfed the cake and were about to leave， Mrs Thimpson
stopped Paul. Paul’s heart was in mouth again.However， to his
surprise， Mrs Thimson handed him a brand new bat and glove with a
gracious smile， “This is for you.I heard this is something you’d
like.We try to find little ways to show our appreciation for what you’ve
done for us.” Looking at the bat and glove and then at Steve， Paul
flushed， shame welling up in him.“Thanks so much.I love them！”
Outside， Steve put his hand on Paul’s shoulder.“See， you not only
have a clear conscience， but also the bat and glove you wanted.”
