  In 2015, Chennai was destroyed by one of the worst floods in over a century, leaving thousands without food, water and supplies. During the flood, many heroes arose, one of whom was Santosh, a young man who owned a take-out restaurant in Chennai.
  When the first flood hit in November, he got a call from a company called Naga Rava. The company asked him to prepare 5,000 packets of food and give them to the flood victims. He, with his partners, took the order, cooked for 14 hours and delivered them. But that night, as they sat together discussing the event of the day, they actually felt ashamed. “Here was a man not even from Chennai and he was going out of his way to help the affected people. We, while living here, had not really done anything ourselves for our own people,” said Santosh later.
  He then began the groundwork for a collection to help cook more dishes. Little did he know that the November flood was just the beginning, and the real show was about to begin. The December flood affected them all. His own house got flooded and his family was trapped on the second floor. They lost phone connection and electricity. In spite of this, Santosh went back out into the flood, creating a kitchen and preparing food all by himself for the victims.
  He did not sleep for four days, taking a one-hour break everyday as he kept on cooking. As word got out about this man’s effort, others stepped out to join him. From children to the elderly, strangers came to help him in cooking, packing and transporting food. Up to 300 volunteers worked together to make it all happen. By the time the fourth day finally came to an end, Santosh and his team had prepared 170,000 food boxes and delivered them to people in need.

Recently, research on how a new virtual reality (VR) experience educated primary children about the fire disasters was done.It was developed by the University of South Australia, aiming to educate children to learn how to be safer in a fire.
Focusing on children aged 10-12 years old, the new VR experience presents a situation where children are tasked to look after a friend’s dog just before a fire event begins to unfold. They participate in a series of problem-solving activities to help save and protect themselves and the dog.
The findings showed that more than 80 per cent of children reported that they felt more confident to calmly evaluate the options and make wise decisions to protect themselves from a fire. This is especially significant considering that 91 per cent of participants originally lacked any knowledge of fires, and that 67 per cent had said that they were too young to make safety decisions in a fire.
The researchers believed such immersive (沉浸式的) VR experiences had real potential to engage, educate and empower the young.“As children born in digital times,they are engaged by such technology and they can experience events realistically yet within the safe environment,” said Delene Weber, one of the researchers.“Well-designed VR can provide an opportunity for children to apply newly acquired knowledge, strengthen their learnt concepts, and enable immediate feedback — all incredibly valuable learning tools.”
Meanwhile, because children have fewer life experiences, aren’t as physically strong, and are less likely to have learned much about fire safety, they’re often most at risk. Yet the capacity for children to contribute to fire safety at their household should not be underestimated.
“Children do not need to be passive victims of disasters and with purpose-built virtual reality experiences such as these,we can help empower children to understand the risks and realize they can help,” said Weber.

  It’s been a week since the other astronauts left Mars and went back
to Earth, accidentally leaving me here alone.I was caught in a dust storm
and lost contact with them.
After resuming communication with the base five days later, I was
informed that it will be eight months before a rescue mission arrives from
Earth. Fortunately, I have shelter, because the landing capsule protects
me from the deadly radiation outside.The capsule is powered by a small
nuclear plant.It might have just enough electricity for eight months,
if nothing goes wrong. What’s more, my spacesuit keeps me safe from exposure to the Martian surface for up to several hours at a time.Water and oxygen were my biggest worries at first, but I’ve discovered an underground ice deposit nearby.I can reach the ice with our survey tools.That’s lucky, because I can drink the water from the ice and also use it to produce oxygen when I run low.
Now I am worried about food. There is only enough for one person for four months — four months short of what I need.Part of our mission was to experiment with growing plants in the Martian soil, so I have seeds of various kinds.I must work out how to farm on Mars. If I can solve that challenge, and if the electricity supply holds, I can survive until I am rescued. There’s still hope!

  In 2015, Chennai was destroyed by one of the worst floods in over a century, leaving thousands without food, water and supplies. During
the flood, many heroes arose, one of whom was Santosh, a young
man who owned a take-out restaurant in Chennai.
  When the first flood hit in November, he got a call from a company
called Naga Rava. The company asked him to prepare 5,000 packets of
food and give them to the flood victims. He, with his partners, took the
order, cooked for 14 hours and delivered them. But that night, as they
sat together discussing the event of the day, they actually felt ashamed.

to help the affected people. We, while living here, had not really done
anything ourselves for our own people,” said Santosh later.
  He then began the groundwork for a collection to help cook more
dishes. Little did he know that the November flood was just the
beginning, and the real show was about to begin. The December flood
affected them all. His own house got flooded and his family was trapped
on the second floor. They lost phone connection and electricity. In spite of
this, Santosh went back out into the flood, creating a kitchen and
preparing food all by himself for the victims.
  He did not sleep for four days, taking a one-hour break everyday as
he kept on cooking. As word got out about this man’s effort, others
stepped out to join him. From children to the elderly, strangers came to
help him in cooking, packing and transporting food. Up to 300
volunteers worked together to make it all happen. By the time the fourth
day finally came to an end, Santosh and his team had prepared 170,000
food boxes and delivered them to people in need.

Recently, research on how a new virtual reality (VR) experience
educated primary children about the fire disasters was done.It was
developed by the University of South Australia, aiming to educate
children to learn how to be safer in a fire.
Focusing on children aged 10-12 years old, the new VR

a series of problem-solving activities to help save and protect themselves

audience with her charming lyrics and undeniable talent. He waved his
arms and cheered loudly together with all the people present.All of a
sudden, a fearless idea occurred to him.Inspired by her performance,
Joel decided to seize the opportunity and show his skills before his idol
(偶像). Joel went up to the event organizer and explained his passion
for rap, hoping to be given a chance to perform.
  Impressed by Joel’s enthusiasm and determination, the event
organizer agreed to let him perform a short set after Latto finished her
performance. Joel was overjoyed and spent the remaining time
practising,making sure he was ready to deliver an unforgettable
performance. He prayed at the bottom of his heart that he would succeed
like Latto. Latto ended her show and the crowd broke up.
