A little background, my husband’s father’s family is from Salento in Puglia and they even have a place to stay there on the beach.I have heard about this place ever since I got married.I ended up visiting it six years after being married. Honestly, it wasn’t my first time in Italy.I was in the Trentino region before but most of the Italians told me that “the real Italy only starts from the south of Rome”.Anyway, I was all set to have a very “average” experience in the south of Italy in every sense but I was in for a surprise. That’s because I have visited a lot of amazing beaches and islands. Moreover, I have also visited countries that are known for their amazing food and I thought I’d find Italian food very “plain and basic”, but I was wrong.I didn’t expect to love it so much. If there’s one country that’s so culturally powerful that everyone has to experience it at least once, it has got to be Italy. In terms of culture, family, food, art, architecture and music — they all play an important part individually and wholly.Italians take pride in their culture. It is hard to describe how it is to experience a new culture.I come from a country where culture plays a very visible part and I felt something similar in Italy.Even if you arrive in Italy with a closed mind, over time the country will win you over because you can’t help but fall in love with it.1.Why does the author always want to visit Puglia?( )A.It’s where she was born.B.It’s a famous tourist site.C.She is interested in Roman culture.D.She has heard of it for long.2.How does the author feel after visiting the south of Italy?( )A.Curious. B.Proud.C.Amazed. D.Disappointed.3.What impressed the author most about Italy?( )A.Its culture. B.Its architecture.C.Its scenery. D.Its geographical location.4.Where does this text probably come from?( )A.A travel diary.B.A science report.C.A geography textbook.D.An advertising brochure.B I’ve lived in Cardigan Bay (卡迪根海灣) in West Wales since I was a few months old. You’ve got everything you need here. Hills, stunning beaches, nice coastal paths. As someone who loves the countryside, I’ve never wanted to leave. I was lucky to find work I could do in this area. A lot of people do have to move away in order to find work. I started Adventure Beyond here about 30 years ago and we work all over the UK. We go up to Scotland, and we work along the Thames. We’ve also taken groups to Canada, the Himalayas, places like that. But honestly, West Wales has got everything. We can do everything we need right here. Cardigan Bay is pretty huge, but I find having grown up here there’s a definite sense of place. There’s an awareness that we’re lucky to have these incredible sandy beaches, pebbly beaches, beautiful rivers, hills. It’s peaceful, and it’s not overdeveloped. Of course, there’re periods when it gets busy, but then the second schools go back and you pretty much get the beaches to yourself. There is a sense of community (群體) too, with a lot of good community-based clubs, such as the Poppit Sands Surf Lifesaving Club. I set up Adventure Beyond to make my own work in the area. I love the outdoors, and I wanted to be in Cardigan Bay, so it was perfect. I’ve tried to always keep that personal touch. The clients (客戶) will pretty much always meet myself and all the staff. We took a lot of people on through the Kickstart scheme (啟動(dòng)計(jì)劃) and they’ve been employed with us for a few years. A lot of our clients have been with us since we started, too. There’s a sense of family, which is quite special. I won’t mention a specific favorite place, but in general the beaches are just amazing. It’s just a sort of wild west, really.5.What is Adventure Beyond?( )A.A travel agency.B.A government program.C.An outdoor activity center.D.A community-based club.6.What is Cardigan Bay like in the author’s eyes?( )A.It gives a sense of belonging.B.It’s undeveloped but peaceful.C.Its beauty hasn’t been noticed.D.It has the best beaches in the world.7.What does the underlined word “it” in Paragraph 4 refer to?( )A.Keeping that personal touch.B.Getting the beaches back to the locals.C.Enjoying outdoor activities with clients.D.Starting Adventure Beyond in Cardigan Bay.8.What is the text mainly about?( )A.The author’s simple life in Cardigan Bay.B.The author’s deep love for Cardigan Bay.C.The author’s exploration of Cardigan Bay.D.The author’s hope for the future Cardigan Bay.CThe ancient village of Machu Picchu is one of the most popular tourist destinations in South America. It’s in Peru, high in the Andes Mountains, 8,000 feet above sea level. The village contains 200 buildings.Houses are in groups, and each house has a large courtyard inside its walls. The Incas (印加人) used the areas outside the groups of houses to grow corn and potatoes and to raise animals. The Incas were very good at building strong walls.Visitors to Machu Picchu still cannot fit a knife between the stones of a village home.Machu Picchu seemed to be a healthy, busy village. So why was it lost? That is a mystery, but experts have some ideas.Machu Picchu was hard to reach.Few people outside the village knew about it.Experts think that many residents died of disease.Others fought a war.The survivors left the village. The tourists are good for Peru’s economy, but they are not good for Machu Picchu. The village is old and fragile.Tourists damage the ruins.Thousands of footsteps from visitors wear down the walkways in the village.Salt and oil from people’s hands damage the walls.Air pollution from buses hurts the stones.Tourists do not want to damage the village, but they want to see this beautiful, ancient place. The Peruvian government and conservation groups are trying to solve the problem.A group from the United Nations wants to limit the number of tourists each year. They also want cars and buses to use cleaner fuel.9.What crops did the Incas grow?( )A.Rice and beans. B.Tomatoes and peas.C.Wheat and peas. D.Potatoes and corn.10.How do we know that Incas were good at building walls?( )A.The Incas knew how to make good use of the land.B.Visitors still cannot fit a knife between the stones.C.Footsteps wear down the walkways in the village.D.Each house has a large courtyard inside its walls.11.Which word can best replace the underlined word “fragile” in the fourth paragraph?( )A.beautiful B.terribleC.clean D.weak12.Which of the following does NOT damage the ruins?( )A.Air pollution.B.Feet on the walkways.C.The shape of the land.D.Hands on the walls.Ⅱ. Say you’re on vacation at Niagara Falls. You want to take an amazing photo that captures (捕捉) the exceptional beauty of the waterfalls.13.( ) The thing is ...you’re not a professional photographer. So, what do you do? Here are some tips that can step up your photography game. 14.( ) Before you snap (拍攝) a shot, ask yourself:What are you trying to document and why? That may be as simple as saying to yourself:“I’m going to take a picture of this painting at the museum because I like the colours.” It can help you focus on what you want to remember. Make a shot list. Professional photographers often create“shot lists” — a checklist of every photo they hope to capture, along with notes on style and composition — to ensure they get the coverage they need. You can try this same approach on your vacation.15.( ) Capture the ordinary. 16.( ) These scenes may not feel impressive enough to photograph in the moment, but they’re ones you’re likely to want to remember after your trip is over. The images may be as simple as your dad napping (打盹) on the plane or your beloved backpack. Study your photos. It can be hard to appreciate your photos in the rush of a trip.17.( ) You’ll most likely find some surprises — a glance of a friend in the background or a dangling (懸掛的) flower from a tree branch.Keep an eye out for anything that makes you happy.Above all, what matters is that the photo is meaningful to you.A.Learn from the professionals.B.Think before you take a photo.C.Try to capture moments or objects that may seem“ordinary”.D.Thus, wait until you’re back home to study your images more carefully.E.Tapping into your senses is another way to add dimension to your pictures.F.However,you don’t want to take the same photo that everyone else is taking.G.Such a list can help figure out your photo goals and identify what you’re most excited about.Section Ⅰ Starting out & Understanding ideas基礎(chǔ)知識(shí)自測(cè)維度一1.gallery 2.profession 3.previous 4.indigenous5.questing 6.Kangaroo 7.destinations 8.quitting維度二professional維度三1.fell in love with2.playing basketball3.make the house clean and tidy4.When it comes to swimming5.made an impact on6.in particular7.became familiar with8.come true9.quit learning painting10.is used to11.am determined to do12.If only he had listened to維度四1.who 2.to quit 3.blogger 4.challenging 5.has visited6.extremely 7.of 8.shows 9.throwing 10.a素養(yǎng)能力提升Ⅰ. I was in for a surprise和I didn’t expect to love it so much. If there’s one country that’s so culturally powerful that everyone has to experience it at least once, it has got to be Italy. I started Adventure Beyond ... the Himalayas, places like that. 根據(jù)第二段中的The Incas(印加人) used the areas outside the groups of houses to grow corn and potatoes and to raise animals. Visitors to Machu Picchu still cannot fit a knife between the stones of a village home. 根據(jù)畫線詞后的Tourists damage the ruins. Thousands of footsteps from visitors wear down the walkways in the village. A little background, my husband’s father’s family is fromSalento in Puglia and they even have a place to stay there on the beach.Ihave heard about this place ever since I got married.I ended up visiting itsix years after being married. Honestly, it wasn’t my first time in Italy.I was in the Trentinoregion before but most of the Italians told me that “the real Italy onlystarts from the south of Rome”.Anyway, I was all set to have a very“average” experience in the south of Italy in every sense but I was in fora surprise. That’s because I have visited a lot of amazing beaches andislands. Moreover, I have also visited countries that are known for theiramazing food and I thought I’d find Italian food very “plain andbasic”, but I was wrong.I didn’t expect to love it so much. If there’s one country that’s so culturally powerful that everyonehas to experience it at least once, it has got to be Italy. In terms ofculture, family, food, art, architecture and music — they all play animportant part individually and wholly.Italians take pride in their culture. It is hard to describe how it is to experience a new culture.I comefrom a country where culture plays a very visible part and I felt somethingsimilar in Italy.Even if you arrive in Italy with a closed mind, over timethe country will win you over because you can’t help but fall in love withit. 1. Hills, stunning beaches, nice coastal paths. As someone who loves thecountryside, I’ve never wanted to leave. I was lucky to find work I could do in this area. A lot of people dohave to move away in order to find work. I started Adventure Beyond hereabout 30 years ago and we work all over the UK. We go up to Scotland, and we work along the Thames. We’ve also taken groups to Canada, the Himalayas, places like that. But honestly, West Wales has goteverything. We can do everything we need right here. There is a sense ofcommunity (群體) too, with a lot of good community-based clubs, such as the Poppit Sands Surf Lifesaving Club. I set up Adventure Beyond to make my own work in the area.
