These days, football is one of the most popular sports in the world. Given that Neil Armstrong wanted to take a football to the Moon, we could even say that it is also the most popular sport out of this world! The history of the game goes back⑦ over two thousand years to Ancient China. It was then known as cuju (kick ball), a game using a ball of animal skins with hair inside.Goals were hung in the air.Football as we know it today started in Great Britain, where the game was given new rules.
That football is such a simple game to play is perhaps the basis① of its popularity. It is also a game that is very cheap to play. You don't need expensive equipment; even the ball doesn't have to cost much money. All over the world you can see kids playing to their hearts' content⑧ with a ball made of plastic bags; just like Pelé did when he was a boy.
Another factor behind football's global popularity is the creativity② and excitement on the field. It is fun enough to attract millions of people. You do not have to be a fan to recognise the skill of professional players—how they use their bodies to pass, score③ and defend④ can be amazing to see—or to feel the excitement of a game ending with a surprising twist⑤.
What's more, football has become one of the best ways for people to communicate: it does not require words, but everyone understands it.It breaks down walls and brings people together on and off the field.Take, for example, the famous football game on Christmas Day 1914.World War I had broken out months before, but British and German soldiers put down their guns and played football together—one moment of peace to remember during years of conflict⑥. 2 Ask your coach, gym teacher or trainer for some advice before writing your plan.Besides, write down how long you have worked out and what activity you have done.
Ask your coach if you aren't sure what you need.New equipment can be expensive, so think about using some second-hand equipment if it's available.Brothers, sisters and friends can be great sources of used equipment. 3 You can ask your coach to take a look at it before the first day of practice. If you are a returning player, take out all your equipment, try it on and make sure that it still fits and works.
4 Sports camps can help new and experienced players brush up on skills before the season starts.College players, coaches or other professionals usually teach in the camps. Many schools and colleges offer various sports camps during the summer and at the weekend during the school year.
Your school or team will probably require a physical check before allowing you to participate.Because everyone needs to get checked at the beginning of the season, doctors tend to be busy at this time of year. Therefore, make an appointment with the doctor earlier. 5

But surprisingly, with the loss of his legs, Leykin gained a new passion for racing. Before his accident, he wasn't really that athletic. He would just occasionally play basketball. But that all changed after he was introduced to handcycling.“When I saw it, I was like, ‘Oh, this is great. You don't even need legs to use it.This is perfect.'” he said.“So, I got on it, I rode and fell in love with it right away.”

Your school or team will probably require a physical check before allowing you to participate.Because everyone needs to get checked at the beginning of the season, doctors tend to be busy at this time of year. Therefore, make an appointment with the doctor earlier.
