Grandma has been complaining about the vegetables sold in the supermarket, which have been grown using chemical fertilisers. To her, that they look beautiful on the outside is obvious. Subject clauses主語從句
That Yuan Longing has developed hybrid rice to tack the crisis of the hunger of the world population is well known. Whether we can become a person like him depends on our intense effort.
Step 2: Learn subject clauses
在英語中，有的從句在復合句中的作用相當于名詞，稱作名詞性從句。
在復合句中用作主語的從句叫作主語從句。
引導主語從
句的連接詞
連詞that ；whether（不能用if）
連接代詞：who；whoever；what；whatever；which
連接副詞：when；where；how；why
主語從句要用陳述句語序。
That the earth is round is a fact.
地球是圓的，這是個事實。
Whether she will win the prize is still unknown.
還不知道是否她能獲獎。
Whoever is the last to leave should turn off the lights.
凡是最后離開的人應該把燈關掉。
How this could be done was a good question.
這如何實現是個值得研究的問題。
Why she didn’t show up remains a puzzle.

為了避免主語顯得過長，尤其是陳述句作主語從句時，可以用it作句子的形式主語，把主語從句移到句子的末尾。

Typical patterns of subject clauses
(主句謂語動詞一般用單數形式)
主語從句的特殊模式：
1.It is /was + n/adj./p.p. +clause
It is a pity that he can’t come.
It is certain that you will make it.
It is reported that the famous writer was arrested for no good reason.
主語從句的一般模式：
Clause + v.
即：主語從句+謂語
即：形式主語it+系動詞+形容詞（名詞詞組、過去分詞）+ that從句
That she will win the match is certain.
It is important that we teens should learn English.
It is a good news that he will attend the meeting on behalf of our school.
It is said that our school will hold a sports meeting.
It is strange that we teens should be so full of energy.
It is a fact that … 事實是……
It is an honor that… ……非常榮幸
It is common knowledge that… ……是常識

2.It + vt. + O + 主語從句
It worried her a bit that her hair was turning grey.
聯想：It struck/hit sb. + 句子: 某人突然想到……
3.It + vi. + 主語從句
It doesn’t matter whether you go today or tomorrow.
聯想：It occurred to me that …某人突然想到……
It happens that… 碰巧……
It +seems (happens，appears等不及物動詞)+that從句

連接詞: that與what引導主語從句
What he said makes me happy.

that 只起連接作用，無意義，在從句中不充當任何成分, 且
在賓語從句中有時可省。 what 既起連接作用, 又在從句中作主語、賓語或表語 (且在名
詞性從句中只有what可作表語）
