Hello, my name is Tiantian. I am in Grade 8. What will I be when I grow up That's a big question. There are so many choices. I don't know the exact answer yet, but I do have a few ideas.
Maybe I'll be an airplane pilot. That is a cool job because I will help people travel around for work, for fun, or for family reunions. I am looking forward to flying in the sky and experiencing many interesting things.
There is a problem, though. I have a fear of heights. But that won't stop me from becoming a pilot. I can take steps to overcome my fear and try my best to realise my dream.
Or maybe I'll be an engineer and make planes. I like making model planes. I hope to design a new type of plane someday. It will have larger wings,
but burn less fuel.

拓展延伸：“主將從現(xiàn)” 適用范圍：除 “when”，還有 “if（如果 ）、as soon as（一……就 ）、until（直到 ）” 等引導的時間 / 條件狀語從句 。
Language points
1. What will I be when I grow up
(1) when /wen/ conj. 當……時 ，引導時間狀語從句，遵循 “主將從現(xiàn)” 規(guī)則 ：即 主句用一般將來時，從句用一般現(xiàn)在時。
e.g. When he comes back, I will tell him the news.
他回來時，我將會告訴他消息 。
(2) grow up 長大
e.g. I want to be an engineer when I grow up. 我長大后想成為一名工程師。
2. I don't know the exact answer yet, but I do have a few ideas.
few 作形容詞時，意為“有些；很少”，它強調(diào)數(shù)量少，且通常帶有否定的意味。
辨析：few, a few, little 與a little
修飾可數(shù)名詞 修飾不可數(shù)名詞
表否定含義 few（幾乎沒有） little（幾乎沒有）
表肯定含義 a few（有幾個） a little（有一點）
e.g. Though he is poor, he is happy. = He is poor, but he is happy.

3. There is a problem, though.
though / / adv. 然而；可是 ；conj. 盡管；雖然
①作副詞，常用于句末 ，起補充說明、轉(zhuǎn)折語氣的作用
e.g. The trip was great. The weather was bad at times, though.
這次旅行很棒。不過，天氣有時不太好 。
②作連詞，引導讓步狀語從句，可放在句首或句中，意為“盡管；雖然”
e.g. She went to school on time though she was ill.
盡管她生病了，她還是按時上學了 。
注意：漢語里“雖然……但是……”常連用，英語中“though”和“but”不能同時出現(xiàn)在一個句子里 ，只能用其一 。
4. I am looking forward to flying in the sky and experiencing many interesting things.

5. I have a fear of heights.
height n. 高；高度；高處
high adj. 高的 adv. 高地
a fear of heights 恐高
6. But that won't stop me from becoming a pilot.

=keep sb. from doing sth.
=prevent sb. (from) doing sth.

e.g. Nothing can stop us from realising our dreams.

7. I can take steps to overcome my fear and try my best to realise my dream.
(1) take steps to do sth. 采取措施做某事
e.g. We are taking steps to prevent pollution.
我們正在采取措施防止污染。
(2) try one’s best to do sth.
=do one’s best to do sth.
盡某人最大努力做某事
e.g. Your dream will come true if you try your best.
如果你盡最大努力，你的夢想就會實現(xiàn)。
(3) ① realise v. 實現(xiàn) 美式書寫：realize “主語是人”
come true 實現(xiàn) “主語是物”
realise one’s dream 實現(xiàn)某人的夢想
e.g. We must work hard to realise our dream.
我們必須努力學習實現(xiàn)夢想。
② realise v. 意識到；理解
e.g. Judy suddenly realised that all her friends were helping her, and she was moved.
朱迪突然意識到所有的朋友都在幫助她，她非常感動
I didn't realise that my mother was really unhappy at that time.
我并未察覺到母親在那時非常不開心。
8. I hope to design a new type of plane someday.
(1) design v.& n. 設(shè)計
design sth. for sth./sb. 為某物/某人設(shè)計某物
designer n. 設(shè)計者；構(gòu)思者
e.g. She designed a new logo for the company.
