過去將來時
過去將來時表示從過去某一時間看將要發生的動作或存在的狀態。即: 過去將來時是“立足過去,著眼未來”的一種時態, 常用于賓語從句中。
判斷這種時態的依據是: 要有表示過去的
“動作”, 而不是時間。

過去將來時的用法
e.g.
1. The poor woman believed that her son would come back sooner or later.
2. I thought it was going to rain soon.
3. She was to arrive at the station before
3:00 pm, but she got there too late.
4. The thief was about to leave when the
police arrived.
IV. 過去將來時典型錯誤例析
1. 我們不知道他是否要在會上發言。
誤: We didn’t know whether he is going to speak at the meeting.
正: We didn’t know whether he was going
to speak at the meeting.
解析: 該句主句為過去時, 且賓語從句表示
從過去某個時間看將要發生的動作,
所以從句要用過去將來時態。
2. 老師問湯姆長大后準備干什么。
誤: The teacher asked Tom what he was
going to be when he would grow up.
正: The teacher asked Tom what he was
going to be when he grew up.
分析: 在時間狀語從句中, 常用一般過去
時表示在過去看將要發生的動作。
3. 他們說如果下星期天不下雨他們就去農場。
誤: They said that they were going to the
farm if it would not rain the next
Sunday.
正: They said that they were going to the
farm if it didn’t rain the next Sunday.
分析: 在條件狀語從句中, 常用一般過去時
表示在過去看來將要發生的動作。
4. 王林打電話告訴她媽媽, 她要買一些書。
誤: Wang Lin rang up to tell her mother
that she should buy some books.
正: Wang Lin rang up to tell her mother
that she would buy some books.
分析: 過去將來時可以由“助動詞should/
would+動詞原形”構成, 但should一
般只用于第一人稱。
