Toad-in-the hole
Toad-in-the hole is a traditional British dish. It consists of sausages in a Yorkshire pudding mix, usually served with vegetables. The origin of the dish’s name isn’t quite clear, but a common explanation is that it gets its name because it looks like a toad sticking its head out of a hole.

My name is Li Hua, I come from China. Now I am studying in the UK and living with a British family. There was something interesting during my first week there.
One day, the son of the British family said to me with excitement, “We’ll have toad-in-the-hole for dinner!” I was really surprised when I heard it. I wasn’t sure whether we would eat a toad in the hole. To my astonishment, when the food was served, I found no toad at all. It turned out that toad-in-the-hole was a delicious food.
I really appreciate this experience because it helps me realize that some of the English we learn that in the classroom is rather different from the English in the outside world！

Last summer，I stayed with a British host family. One day, I was really surprised when Jeremy, the son of the family, told me that we would have a toad-in-the-hole for dinner. I wasn't sure whether we were going to eat a real toad in a hole. If so, how terrible! I joined them at dinner time with butterflies in my stomach. To my astonishment, a dish of sausages cooked in Yorkshire pudding (a mix that tastes a bit like pancakes) was served on the table, and it tasted delicious. It turned out that toad-in-the-hole is a typical dish for a British dinner, and there's no toad! What a amazing experience! It was interesting to try such yummy(美味的）food with a strange name.
