The Dragon Boat Festival, also called the Duanwu Festival, is celebrated on the fifth day of the fifth lunar month. This festival is to commemorate the death of QU Yuan, an upright and honest poet and statesman who is said to have committed suicide by drowning himself in Miluo river.

In ancient time, there was a great poet called Qu Yuan. He couldn't bear the anguish when his mother land was invaded, so he drowned himself in the river. Local residents rode boats to salvage him and drop the rice balls into the river to distract fishes' attention from Qu’s body. Later people memorialized Qu's patriotism by rowing and making Zongzi on the Dragon Boat Festival, Duanwujie. That's how the tradition of dragon boat racing and eating Zongzi were started.

During Spring and Autumn Period, people in Central China already formed the custom of celebrating this important day. But it was not until Han Dynasty that the day was formally recognized as a festival.

1.Rinse and then soak the bamboo leaves and glutinous rice
2.Overlap two leaves and fold them into a cone
3.Add the fillings and press gently
4.Cross the leaves to form a triangle to seal
5.Tie the string around the Zongzi
6.Boil them for 2 hours
7.Dip in sugar if you like sweet

Today, Dragon Boat Festival in the Chinese people is still a very popular grand festival. Country attaches great importance to the protection of intangible cultural heritage. May 20, 2006, the State Council approved the inclusion of this folk in the first batch of national intangible cultural heritage.
時至今日，端午節在中國人民中仍是一個十分盛行的隆重節日。國家非常重視非物質文化遺產的保護，2006年5月20日，該民俗經國務院批準列入第一批國家級非物質文化遺產名錄。
