Just A Brother
Pre-reading
Features are "people stories", and are typically longer than standard news stories. Features are written in an individual style, with extra detail and background.
Feature stories typically start with a"'hook" that gets the interest of the reader. The style of the first paragraph also needs to set the tone of the whole piece.The middle part contains the "meat" of the story with the ending being a summary, a powerful quote or even a surprise for the reader
Learning to learn
Pre-reading
Look at the words and expressions and choose the ones that can be applied to your relationship with your family members.
Look at the title of the passage and the picture. Predict which of the words and expressions can be applied to the brothers’ relationship.
While-reading
Read the passage and find out the main idea of each paragraph.

The author wanted to surprise her mother with home-made scrambled eggs on her mother's birthday. Unluckily, the eggs were burnt, but they ended up laughing about it and eating them all anyway.

Write a short story of your own
There is a small bike lying quietly in our garage. It is quite old and I can no longer ride it, but I still keep it there, as it brings back a sweet memory.
Many years ago, it was a Sunday morning on my sixth birthday. My father bought me a new bike. I could not wait to get on it and learn how to ride, so I begged my father to teach me in the garden. After I sat on the new bike, my father helped me put my two hands on the handlebars and my feet on the pedals. Then, he pushed the bike so that the pedals started to move. I was scared! But my father kept encouraging me. I could cycle around the garden shortly after my first try. It was amazing. But unluckily, I was so busy waving at him that I didn't see a small tree in front of me. I hit it and fell off the bike. It hurt a lot and I started to cry. My father encouraged me to stand up, be brave and try again. Gradually, I was able to ride the bike more skillfully.
I kept riding the bike until it was too small for me. It is still one of my most precious possessions, for not only was it my first bike, but a symbol of my courage as well as my father's love. And I learnt that love has great power.
Presenting ideas
Think about the saying “Home is where you are loved the most and act the worst”. Present your idea to the class.
It is your family members who love you the most and tolerate all your inappropriate behaviour, while it is them who you treat with the most impolite attitude or behaviour.
Hello, everyone. I will take this opportunity to talk about our family members and love. I think the above-mentioned saying means that our family members love us most while we usually treat them with the worst attitude or behavior. In my opinion, young children often take the love and tolerance from family members for granted, which is very sad. Actually young people should do more to strengthen the bonds between family members because family relationships are not only sources of happiness, they often provide us with positive force.
Young people should respect parents because they always love and support you. Tell your family members that you value their love and support. Do not allow feelings of anger, skepticism, or simple confusion to lead to serious issues between family members.
As an example, I often share my needs and feelings with my parents and ask for their advice. In this way, I can get useful suggestions and my parents can get respect from me.
