I quickly scanned the area for help, but there were no passers-by in sight. I dialed the emergency number, provided the operator with our location, and described the woman's condition. Following the operator’s instructions, I tried to keep her conscious by reassuring her that rescue was on the way. The minutes felt like hours, but eventually, the wail of the ambulance pierced the air. I stepped aside to allow the paramedics to assess her condition before accompanying her to the hospital, holding her hand and offering comfort.
As I walked out of the hospital, I realized that I had missed my interview. I glanced at my watch and sighed, frustrated at having missed such a significant job opportunity. But at the thought of the elderly woman’s family and the gratitude in their eyes, my heart softened. The consequences could have been far worse if I had walked away. I hoped she would recover soon, and that my actions had truly made a difference. In the end, while the summer heat remained unchanged, my feeling of regret was overshadowed by a profound sense of fulfillment and peace. After all, nothing is more precious than life, and I had chosen the right path.
