Write a letter to invite all students and their parents to attend the speech. Make sure you include these points：
the opening and the closing sentences
the date，time，and topic of the speech
why they should attend the speech (with if-clauses)

Work in groups. Each student writes one sentence beginning with “If...” on their own piece of paper. For example：
If it doesn′t rain tomorrow，we′ll go for a picnic.

Put all the pieces of paper into a box or jar. The first person picks one and reads it aloud. Others then add “if”sentences to continue the story. For example：
If we go for a picnic, everyone will be excited.
If everyone is excited, we'll play some fun games.

Take turns to add sentences until the story ends naturally. Each story should include at least five sentences.

When a story ends，pick another piece of paper. Take turns to tell the next story.

take place 舉行；發生；進行
take place 是不及物動詞短語。
Great changes took place in the countryside these years.這些年來，鄉村發生了巨大的變化。
[辨析] take place 與 happen
二者都可表示“發生”，但用法有所區別：
take place 指根據安排或計劃“發生”
happen 一般指事件偶然或突然“發生”

reply that... 回答說······
She never replied to any of my letters. 她從來沒給我回過信。

reply 多指經過思考、有針對性的回答 reply 不能直接接賓語，接賓語時須加介詞 to
answer 多指對問題的回答，還可表示接聽(電話)或對門鈴等聲響作出反應

honour /′ n (r)/ ①[名詞] 榮幸；光榮；尊敬；榮譽；名譽
honour 也寫作 honor。
It′s a great honour to do sth. 做某事是極大的榮幸。
in honour of... 為了表示對······的敬意；為了紀念······
It′s my great honour to attend the meeting. 參加這個會議是我極大的榮幸。
We fight for the honour of our country. 我們為祖國的榮譽而戰。
honour ②[動詞] 給······榮譽；表彰；尊重
We should honour those firemen who putout the fire in the forest. 我們應該尊重那些撲滅森林大火的消防員。
5. the date，time，and topic of the speech 演講的日期、時間和主題 (教材第 79 頁，3c)
date /de t/ ①[名詞]日期；日子；約會
date 指的日期往往是特指的，其前常加 the。詢問日期常用“What is/was the date... ”或“What date is/was it... ”
—What′s the date today 今天幾號
—It′s April 14th. 今天是 4 月 14 日。
[注意] 詢問星期幾用“What day is/was it... ”，意為“······是星期幾 ”
date ② [動詞] 確定年代；注明日期
Once the decision is reached，you can date and sign the sheet.
