population / p pju′le n/ [名詞] 人口
the population of... 意為“······的人口”，作主語時，謂語動詞常用單數形式。
The population of China is larger than that of Japan.
中國的人口比日本的多。
[拓展] ①表示某國、某城市有多少人口時，可用“某國/某城市＋has a population of...”或“The population of＋某國/某城市＋is…”來表示。
The city has a population of about 8 million. ＝The population of the city is about 8 million.

② 當 population 與分數或百分數連用作主語時，指整體人口中的一部分，表示的是復數概念，謂語動詞要用復數形式。
