What difficulties did the author have during the meal 3. How did the author feel after finishing the meal Because the author wanted to experience of being blind, thinking eating would be the most difficult activity. The author knocked over glasses and dropped food. The author ate much more slowly, trying to guess what was being eaten.Pouring water was very difficult. After failing to pick up any food with a fork for five minutes, the author decided to use hands, but stuck one hand into a bowl of warm, thick soup.Even using a spoon, most of the soup ended up on the author's shirt. The author left the restaurant feeling hungry, though much more aware of the challenges that blind people face.Dining in the DarkRecently I accompanied a friend to dine at a “dark restaurant”, where people eat in complete darkness, served by blind staff. I wanted to understand the experience of being blind, and I thought eating would be the most difficult activity. It was a difficult meal. Because we couldn't see where anything was, my friend and I knocked over glasses and dropped food. My senses of taste and smell became more sensitive, and I ate much more slowly, trying to guess what I was eating. Pouring water was very difficult, plus I kept drinking from my friend's glass. After failing to pick up any food with a fork for five minutes, I decided to use my hands. I reached down, expecting rice and vegetables, but instead stuck my hand into a bowl of warm, thick soup. “It's best to use a spoon for this course,” the waiter said into my ear, helpfully but much too late. Even using a spoon, I spilled most of the soup on my hirt. I felt embarrassed, even though no one could see me.Our waiter advised us to lift the plates and bowls close to our faces. However, I still left the restaurant feeling hungry, though I was much more aware of the challenges that blind people face.Dining in the Darkknock over打翻;撞倒fail to do:沒能做成某事;pick up:拿起,撿起,開車接某人,偶然學會,染上,接收stick my hand into把手伸進/ course:n. 科目;過程,進程;航向;一道菜/end up最終be aware of: 知道...,意識到...1. 交代時間的常用表達:one day, the other day, last week/month, a few days / weeks/months ago, when I was ...years old, a long time ago, at six o'clock in the morning, at/on the weekend, by the end of last term, during the summer holidays, on Sunday morning...交代地點的常用表達:in one's office, on one's way to school, on one's way home, at the crossing, at the end of the street, at the foot of the mountain, at the airport... Last week, an exhcange student called...from... came to our school.Last weekend, our school invited a craftsman to teach us...In order to help him/her to know more about Chinese culture, I prepared a series of activities. 推動情節發展(事情經過)常用表達:then, after that, suddenly, immediately, no sooner...than, hardly...when, while, when, as, not... until3.介紹經歷的結果或談自己的感想常用詞匯:at last, finally, luckily/fortunately, to one's surprise, feel tired/delighted常用句型:Personally, I think that....What surprised/attracted/delighted...us most was that...Through this meaningful... activity, we learned something that can't be learned in class. He was very grateful for/appreciative of what I had done for him, and said he was deeply impressed with Chinese culture. While working, I realized ...What an unforgettable experience! The Blind travellerTo experience how inconvenient life could be for a blind person, we’ll call some students to walk through some barriers with their eyes blindfolded.Try to make notes of your experience and feeling.WhoWhatWhyProcessOutcomeFeelingStudents in our classWalk through some barriers with their eyes blindfoldedRealise how inconvenient life could be for a blind person1.
