Look and Say
Peter and his friends had a wonderful time in the new house, but the party left the place quite messy. What chores need to be done to make the house clean and tidy

Peter was too tired to do the chores alone so he decided to ask his family for help. Let’s make up conversations using Can/Could between Peter and his family in pairs.

Could I do the dishes later I am tired and I want to take a break.

What’s the situation when we use Could/Can you...
What’s the situation when we use Could/Can I...
It’s used for making requests or asking others to do something politely.
It’s used for asking for permission or asking others to allow us to do something politely.
Could is more polite and formal than Can.
表達請求的句型
Can you +動詞原型+…? 用于向對方提出請求,語氣較為直接,適合用于非正式場合或熟悉的人之間。例如:
Can you help me with my homework
Can you pass me the salt
Could you (please)+動詞原型+…?用于向對方提出請求,語氣比 Can you... 更委婉、更禮貌,適合用于正式場合或不熟悉的人之間。例如:
Could you please speak more slowly
Could you tell me the way to the station
肯定回答:Yes, sure. / Of course./Certainly./Sure./No problem./ Yes, I can./...
否定回答:Sorry, I can’t. I have to.../I’m afraid I can’t. I have to.../I’m afraid not./...
對于請求句型的回答
對于Could you ... 表示請求的回答,均不能用could,而要用can。
征得允許的句型
Can I/we +動詞原型+…?用于征得對方的允許,語氣較為直接,適合用于非正式場合或熟悉的人之間。例如:
Can I borrow your book
Can I use your phone
Could I/we +動詞原型+…?用于征得對方的允許,語氣比 Can I... 更委婉、更禮貌,適合用于正式場合或不熟悉的人之間。例如:
Could I have a cup of coffee
Could I hang out with my friends this weekend
對于征得允許句型的回答
肯定回答:Yes, please. / Of course you can./ Certainly. / Sure. / Yes, you can./...
否定回答:Sorry, you can’t./I’m afraid you can’t. /No, you can’t. You have to.../...
對于Could I/we ... 表示征得允許的回答,均不能用could而要用can。
