Water protectionDear friends,Clean water is limited. The more people use it, the dirtier it becomes. I suggest we act now to protect water at school. It's easy to start small — turn off the tap while soaping our hands, use rainwater for plants, and tell the teacher when we find something wrong with a tap.Read the sampleRead Lu Yao's proposal. We can put up signs, start river clean-up groups, or show videos to raise awareness of water protection.Water is nature’s gift. Together, we can save it for now and the future. As inhabitants of Shanghai, a city facing its own set of environmental challenges, we must recognize the importance of conserving water and taking action to protect this vital resource in our daily lives and beyond the confines of our homes.SAMPLEWrite your own proposalAt school, simple actions can make a big difference. We should be mindful to turn off the tap, ensuring that water is not left running unnecessarily. Encouraging the use of water-saving devices in restrooms and promoting the collection of rainwater for non-potable uses, such as flushing toilets or watering school gardens, are practical steps we can take. Additionally, reporting leaks promptly to school authorities demonstrates responsibility and helps prevent water waste.SAMPLEWrite your own proposalOur efforts shouldn’t stop at school grounds. In our communities, there are numerous ways we can contribute to water conservation. For instance, we can advocate for the use of public transportation or cycling instead of driving, reducing the strain on water resources used in car manufacturing and maintenance. We can also participate in community clean-up drives along rivers and lakes, removing litter that contaminates water sources and harms aquatic life.SAMPLERemember, water is not just a commodity; it is the lifeblood of our environment and essential for all living beings. By adopting these practices, we become guardians of this finite resource, ensuring its availability for generations to come. Every small act adds up, and together, we have the power to make a significant difference.Be a water warrior!Li MingWrite your own proposalSAMPLEChecklistRequirements Tick(s)1 share at least 3 different water tips2 use parallel structures3 write in a form of a letterDiscoveryNew ways to supply waterDiscoveryCloud seedingCloud seeding is a method of using special chemicals to make clouds rain. Because it uses special tech to make clouds release rain. It's great because it can quickly help when there’s no rain, filling up lakes and helping farmers. This method is fast and doesn’t need big builds, making it a good quick fix for dry areas.----- LindaThink and discussWhich method do you like best Why I think ‘The South-North Water Transfer Project’ is the best. Because it brings water from the wet south to the dry north. It’s super helpful as it gives lots of people in the north a steady water supply. This project supports growth and makes life better by sharing water from where there’s lots to where there’s not enough. ----- WilliamThink and discussWhich method do you like best Why In my opinion, getting water from icebergs means using freshwater from polar regions. Icebergs have lots of clean water. If we move them to places that need water, they can give a big amount of safe drinking water. As icebergs change due to global warming, using them wisely could be a new way to get extra water for some parts of the world.----- JohnE. Our water use in a dayPrepare some bottles of water. Make sure you know the amount in each bottle (e.g. 5L, 550ml).ProjectStep 1: PrepareUse water only from your bottles if possible. Take notes when you use water not from your bottles.ProjectStep 2: Record6:40 flush the toilet12:00 refill the 5L (litres) bottles20:45 take a showerAdd up all the water you used in a day. DON’T FORGET thewater not from your bottles.ProjectStep 3: Add upYou can search the internet for the information you need. For example:How much water does a shower take Since the average length of a shower is just over 8 minutes, around 20 gallons of water are used for each shower. However, some people enjoy taking longer showers, which can significantly increase the amount of water used.Shorter showers and more efficient showerheads can offer a similar experience while reducing the amount of water used.ProjectHow much water does a shower take What information to include in your group presentation.e.g.How much water does everyone in our group use on average Would you use water differently if you had to walk for hours to fetch water every day ProjectStep 4: DiscussGive a group presentation to share your findings and ideas.ProjectStep 5: PresentHello everyone! Today, let’s talk about how much water we use in a day. I’m here with a group of five boys from our junior high school in Shanghai, and we’ve been tracking our water usage.ProjectSampleFirst, let’s start with drinking water. On average, each of us drinks about 1.5 liters of water every day. That’s like filling a small bottle three times. So, for the whole group, we drink about 7.5 liters just for staying hydrated!ProjectSampleNext up is taking showers. Showers can use a lot of water! Each boy uses around 20 liters for a shower. Imagine that --- 20 liters is like filling a big bucket four times! For all five of us, that’s 100 liters of water going down the drain every time we wash up.ProjectSampleNow, let’s talk about washing hands. Every time we wash our hands, we use about 2 liters of water. If each of us washes our hands five times a day (which is pretty normal), that’s 10 liters per person. For the group, that adds up to 50 liters just for clean hands!ProjectSampleAnd what about doing laundry Washing clothes also takes a good amount of water. Each load of laundry uses about 50 liters. If we do laundry once a week, that’s still about 7 liters per day when you spread it out. For all of us, that’s another 35 liters.ProjectSamplePutting it all together, each boy uses roughly 40 liters of water in a day for these activities. So, for our group of five, we use about 200 liters of water every day! That’s a lot, right And remember, this is just for the basics—there are many other things we do that use water too.ProjectSampleSo, next time you turn on the tap, think about how much water you’re really using. Let’s all try to be more mindful and save water where we can! Thanks for listening!ProjectSampleListen to other groups’ presentations. Which do you like best What have you learned ProjectThis presentation really opened my eyes to how much water we use every day, even for simple things like drinking and washing. I learned that small actions, like turning off the tap while soaping up, can add up to big savings. It’s amazing how much water five people go through in a day --- 200 liters! Now, I want to be more careful and not waste water. Every drop counts!----- MirandaHomework1.
