11.What is the content of the book Beauty?( )
C
A.Analyses of inner beauty.
B.Common sense about beauty.

A
A.Buy a new book.
B.Chat with her daughter.
C.Teach students true beauty.
W: Hi, Harry. What’s the book Beauty about?
M: It’s about the account of beauty in teenagers’ eyes, Grace. I find that many of
them think a beauty must have striking good looks, but I think there are plenty of
ordinary people who are also beautiful.
W: I guess so.
M: Take my brother for example. He always does his best to help others in need.
He is surely far from handsome, but he’s beautiful inside and admirable. I mean he
is considerate and kind.
W: That’s true. So, I think many people in society focus too much on appearance
instead of personal character.
M: Yeah, there is no doubt that a good-looking person is popular. However, as a
teacher, I should tell my students to stick to right values.
W: I am definitely with you. I think I might as well teach my daughter the true
beauty.
M: I highly recommend you read a book called True Beauty. The author analyzes
the problem with remarkable insight.
W: Wow, thank you. I will purchase one right away.

W: Good evening. Welcome to this week’s business world. Tonight we
have Mr. Angelo, who came to the U.K. five years ago and two years later became
an established businessman with four restaurants in town. So, Mr. Angelo, how did
you get started?
M: Well, I started off with a small restaurant. I did all the cooking by myself,
and my wife served the table. It was really too much work for us. My cooking was
great, so gradually people around the town knew the food. In a year I had to hire
another cook and several waiters. When the restaurant became very busy, I decided
to expand my business.
W: Then do you advertise?
M: Oh yes. I don’t have any TV commercials because they are too expensive, but
we used to distribute ads in nearby shopping centers. Now I advertise a lot on radio
and in local newspapers.
W: What do you think makes you so successful?
M: I always serve the freshest food and I make the atmosphere as comfortable and
pleasant as I can so that my customers will want to come back again.
W: So you always aim to please the customers?
M: Absolutely.
W: Thank you, Mr. Angelo. I think your words will be helpful to those who just
started out in business.

18.What is the benefit of IF?( )
C
A.It lowers blood sugar.
B.It rids people of depression.
C.It slows down brain aging.
19.What does the 5:2 method involve?( )
B
A.Eating just five days a week for a year.

C.Eating only within a five-hour “window”.
20.Which of the following is acceptable during the 16 non-eating hours?( )
C
A.Energy drinks. B.Fruit juice. C.Black coffee.
M: IF is an eating pattern, which is a helpful way not only to lose
or maintain weight but to relieve people’s depression. Studies suggest IF can improve
heart health, control blood sugar and even reduce the rate of brain aging. There are
various methods of practicing IF. One common approach is the 5:2 method. It means
people eat normally five days a week, and have a smaller meal, about 500 calories
per day, on the other two days. Another popular method is the 16+8 method. It
means don’t eat anything for 16 hours in every 24 hours, which includes sleep time.
And only eat within an eight-hour “window”. During the non-eating time, you can
consume calories-free drinks including black coffee, green tea or soda. No foods,
fruits or energy drinks are allowed. Early problems can involve hunger and mood
changes, but most people find their bodies soon adjust to their new eating pattern.
Now it’s expected to be practised by more and more people for it is simpler to follow
than other diet plans.

With a pair of glasses on his nose, 66-year-old Han Hua told tales of his table
tennis coaching career with photos showcasing his trainees’ victories in China,
Tunisia and France.
Born in 1958, Han’s passion for table tennis started at a young age. A mix of
talent and constant dedication brought him to junior tournament victories and eventually,
to an enviable spot in the national team. Apart from being a professional table tennis
player, he also brought out the best in himself as an exceptional coach.
China has dispatched(派遣) coaches in sports to enhance the competitiveness of
nations far and wide since the 1950s. As one of them, Han embarked on a 12-year
coaching journey in Tunisia in 1984. Under his guidance, Tunisia’s table tennis team
amazed the African continent, leading to a historic milestone when four Tunisian
players were admitted into the 1988 Olympics, representing a quarter of the
continent’s quota(指標) at the time.
In the 1990s, France was in a golden era of table tennis, led by the persistent
Jean-Philippe Gatien, whose rise as Olympic runner-up and world champion promised
a period of French dominance in the sport. The French team, made up of Gatien,
Patrick Chila, Christophe Legout and Damien Eloi, achieved remarkable
achievements in the World Cup and World Championships. However, as they retired
in the early years of this century, no such achievements were achieved in the once-
mighty team, causing the French Table Tennis Federation(FFTT) to seek a savior
to restore the nation to its former glory.
Han, with his plentiful coaching experience and fluency in French, stood out
as the ideal candidate. After three years of constant dedication, Han finally achieved
his goal as the French men’s team delivered its most outstanding performance in four
decades—Emmanuel Lebesson won the men’s singles title, while Simon Gauzy
secured the silver medal at the 2016 European Championships.#1.2.1
24.What can we know about Han Hua in the first two paragraphs?( )
C
A.His coaching experience is incomparable.
B.He used to be a player in various countries.
C.He has two different roles related to table tennis.
D.His success in table tennis is mainly due to his talent.
Apart from being a
professional table tennis player, he also brought out the best in himself as an
exceptional coach.”
25.Why was Han Hua sent to Tunisia?( )
D
A.To enhance his playing technique.
B.To join Tunisia’s table tennis team.
C.To represent Tunisia to enter various competitions.
D.To strengthen Tunisia’s table tennis competitiveness.
【解析】根據第三段中的“China has dispatched(派遣) coaches in sports to enhance
the competitiveness of nations far and wide since the 1950s. As one of them, Han...
in Tunisia in 1984.”
26.What is paragraph 4 mainly about?( )
C
A.The leadership of French in table tennis.
B.The current situation of French in table tennis.
C.The shift of French table tennis from glory to depression.
D.The efforts made by the French table tennis team to hire a good coach.
27.What made Han Hua an ideal coach for the French table tennis team?( )
D
A.His constant commitment to table tennis.
B.His accomplishments in playing table tennis.
C.His coaching experience and talent in table tennis.
D.His mastery of coaching skills and language ability.
Han, with his plentiful coaching experience and
fluency in French, stood out as the ideal candidate.”
C
Fog, often a symbol of confusion, uncertainty and danger, holds unique
appeal for Laura Pashby. In her book Chasing Fog, Pashby travels across British and
Venice to explore the properties and characteristics of fog as well as its related
legends.
Fog is a type of weather condition that doesn’t last long. Pashby notes it makes
the familiar world seem odd and unsettling, which explains why numerous tales of
magic are associated with fog. Each chapter of the book describes her fog-hunting trip,
as well as discussions of local history, geography, art, literature and sense of
place with her black-and-white photos.
Pashby’s personal stories run through the book, from her childhood memories of
playing in Dartmoor’s sudden fog to current life in fog-prone(容易起霧的)
Cotswolds. On her journeys, she also explores her “fog self”, a concept described
by poet Alice Oswald, reflecting her absorption in fog. Fog enables Pashby to see
things differently and welcome the unknown. She sees it as a “visual representation of
dreams”. The book combines science with engaging contents on history, nature and
personal experiences. We learn new names of fog and much about the relationship
between fog and art. Pashby discusses how fog influenced the Impressionists like
Monet, and how writers from Dickens to Wilde used fog as characters. She believes
creative thoughts are brought about by fog’s transformative power.
I wish for more about fog in urban settings. Edinburgh and London were
overshadowed by the northeast coast’s sea fog and Thames’ mists. Pashby describes
the London smog in 1952, but doesn’t mention the influences on human bodies of
21st-century air pollution worsened by cold winter fog, which, besides affecting
visibility, is linked to an increase in some diseases, especially among those with
underlying conditions.
In the final chapter, Pashby and her father visit Venice for its special fog,
which feels out of place. This journey could suit a second book on sea fogs in places
like San Francisco and Namibia’s coast or the great urban smog of India. Based on
the completion of Chasing Fog, what an adventure such a book would be!#1.1.4
28.What is the main theme of Chasing Fog?( )
B
A.Pashby’s deep fondness for fog.
B.Pashby’s journey and search for fog.
C.Fog’s role in tales and legends.
D.Fog’s features in various settings.
Pashby... to explore the properties and characteristics of fog
as well as its related legends”和第二段中的“Each chapter of the book describes her
29.Why does fog appeal to Pashby?( )
B
A.It reveals local history and inspires art.
B.It fuels creativity and offers new views.
C.It reminds her of childhood adventures.
D.It provides inviting contents for writing.
Fog enables Pashby to see things differently and welcome
the unknown.”以及“She believes creative thoughts are brought about by fog’s
transformative power.”
30.What does the author hope to see in the book?( )
A
A.Impacts of winter fog on health.
B.Details of fog in rural areas.
C.Associations between fog and air quality.
D.Causes of the London smog.
Pashby... but doesn’t mention the influences on human
bodies of 21st-century air pollution worsened by cold winter fog, which, besides
affecting visibility, is linked to an increase in some diseases, especially among
those with underlying conditions.”
故選A項。
31.What does the author think of the final chapter?( )
B
A.It is too hard to comprehend. B.It matches the theme badly.
C.It is nothing but an adventure story. D.It reflects reality of the cities.
In the final chapter, Pashby and her father visit Venice
for its special fog, which feels out of place. This journey could suit a second book
D
How people communicate with one another varies wildly from culture to culture.
In our fully globalized times, it is more essential than ever to understand these
differences and where they come from. One way to obtain such an understanding is
through the concept of high-context and low-context cultures, developed by Edward T.
Hall.
High-context cultures use communication that focuses on underlying context,
meaning, and tones in the message, and not just the words themselves. On the
contrary, low-context cultures expect the content of communication to be evidently
stated so that there’s no risk of confusion, and if a message isn’t clear enough, it
will slow down the process of communication. In the most extreme cases, leaving
any sort of wiggle room for interpretation can be catastrophic(災難性的).
Although it can be a complex characteristic whether a culture is high-context or
low-context, it can determine many other aspects of a particular culture. For example,
in a high-context culture, similarity is an crucial characteristic. This is because the
majority of the population in high-context cultures typically have the same level of
education, as well as a shared ethnicity, religion, and history. Through these
shared experiences, messages can be contextualized by assuming an audience will
think in the same way and follow the hidden message in someone’s speech or writing.
In low-context cultures, the opposite is true. Low-context cultures are usually diverse,
and focus on the individual, instead of the munication must be basic
enough to allow for as many people to understand it as possible.
Just as communication in general is different for high-context and low-context
cultures, the forms of communication also vary. Generally, high-context cultures
prefer oral communication, while low-context cultures favor written communication.
When it comes to emails, texts, and online messaging, it is more common to
send brief and frequent messages in low-context cultures. Low-context cultures also
want the communication to focus on basic questions, like: What’s happening?
Where’s it happening? When’s it going to happen? How’s it going to happen?
High-context cultures will tend to move in the other direction, with a focus on
longer forms of communication that don’t always focus on basic questions.#1.4
32.How does the author introduce the topic of the text?( )
B
A.By making an assumption. B.By analyzing the present situation.
C.By sharing the history of a theory. D.By making a comparison.
33.What do the underlined words “wiggle room” in paragraph 2 mean?( )
A
A.The freedom to make changes. B.The need for additional knowledge.
C.The chance to reject dialogues. D.The desire for less confusion.
【解析】根據第二段中的 “low-context cultures expect the content of communication to
be evidently stated so that there’s no risk of confusion, and if a message isn’t clear
enough, it will slow down the process of communication”可知,低語境文化期待溝通
線部分所在句中的“In the most extreme cases”和“catastrophic”可知,此處應表示,在極
故選A項。
34.Why do high-context cultures possess the feature of similarity?( )
D
A.Personal interests give way to group interests.
B.Speakers seek to make themselves fully understood.
C.Individuals try to narrow differences and bridge gaps.
D.Collective experiences shape the same way of thinking.
This is because the majority of the population in high-
context cultures typically have the same level of education, as well as a shared...
Through these shared experiences, messages can be contextualized by assuming an
audience will think in the same way... in someone’s speech or writing.”
35.How do high-context and low-context cultures differ in the forms of communication?
( )
D
A.High-context cultures pursue politeness.
B.High-context cultures barely chat online.
C.Low-context cultures care about the results.
D.Low-context cultures prefer simple exchanges.

Ideal College Major Survey: Results From Senior Three Students
A recent survey on senior three students’ preferred college majors, conducted by
the school English newspaper, reveals distinct preferences. As the table shows,
Computer Science is the top choice, favored by 30% of participants, likely due to
the booming tech industry and high employability. Economics follows closely at 25%,
reflecting students’ focus on career prospects in finance and business. Education and
Medicine, each accounting for 15%, highlight the appeal of professions dedicated to
social welfare. Art attracts 10%, while others make up the remaining 5%, possibly
including niche fields like environmental science or astronomy.
The results indicate that most students prioritize practicality when choosing majors,
yet the presence of artistic and interdisciplinary choices suggests growing diversity in
career aspirations. It’s encouraging to see both pragmatic trends and individual passions
coexisting in their decisions.

Vanessa, an elderly woman, lost her beloved husband a couple of years ago.
With no children of their own, she had to live on her own.
For years, Vanessa had wanted to repair their aging roof, fearing it wouldn’t
withstand heavy rain or snow. However, her husband had always dismissed her
concerns, insisting that the roof was in good condition.
But after her husband’s sudden and tragic accident, Vanessa’s worries grew. She
became increasingly fearful of losing her cherished home to the forces of nature.
She decided to hire a team of workers to fix her roof once and for all. She treated
the workers well, cooking meals and bringing them drinks she’d made herself.
Among the workers, only Joseph, the youngest in the group, truly showed
kindness and compassion towards Vanessa. He’d sometimes stay after work to help her
fix some things at home for free. Joseph’s soft spot for Vanessa sprang from his past.
Having grown up as an orphan(孤兒) and never having known his own parents,
he deeply appreciated Vanessa’s care and wanted to give back in any way he could.
On the final day of repairing the roof, one worker named Josh made a
surprising discovery. Hidden beneath one of the layers of roofing, he found a
wooden box. Excitedly, he called over the other workers to take a look.
Eager to uncover the secrets within, one of the workers used a hammer to break the
lock. As they opened the box, their eyes widened in astonishment. Inside, they
found a lot of gold jewelry, a large sum of money, and a letter from Vanessa’s
late husband to her.
Overwhelmed by the unexpected treasure, Josh exclaimed, “We’ve hit the
jackpot, guys! This is our lucky day!” Immediately, another worker suggested
they secretly divide the fortune amongst themselves, planning to store it in their cars
until they left the house. However, Joseph disagreed. “That wouldn’t be right,” he
said. “These items could be important heirlooms(傳家寶) to Vanessa.” Josh,
shaking his head, responded, “Come on, Joseph, why would an elderly woman
without a family need all these things?”#1.1.5
注意:
1.續寫詞數應為150左右;
However, Joseph couldn’t shake off the feeling that it was his responsibility to
do the right thing.____
Together, they carefully repacked the box and brought it to Vanessa,
explaining their discovery.____
However, Joseph couldn’t shake off the feeling that it was his responsibility to
do the right thing. He frowned as he watched the workers greedily eye the gold
jewelry. He thought of Vanessa’s loneliness and the warmth she’d shown them.
“Wait!” he stepped forward and said, “Look at this note—her husband wrote it.
She’s been alone for years. What if this is all she has left of him?” Joseph’s eyes
scanned the room, pleading with his teammates. Josh and the other workers avoided
eye contact, suddenly interested in the floor. Joseph knelt beside the box, tracing
the worn edges of the wooden lid and murmured, “We can’t take from someone
who’s already lost so much.”
Together, they carefully repacked the box and brought it to Vanessa, explaining
their discovery. Tears welled up in Vanessa’s eyes as she opened the box and read the
letter from her husband. It revealed her husband had secretly saved the valuables to
surprise her with a dream vacation, a promise he’d never fulfilled. “I thought he
forgot,” she whispered. In the end, Vanessa insisted on sharing a portion of the
money with Joseph and his teammates as a reward for their discovery and honesty.
Because of them, Vanessa found her husband’s love had never faded, hidden safely
under the roof they’d both once called home.
