1.1形容詞、副詞比較等級的構成
(1)規則變化:
單音節和部分雙音節詞通常在詞尾加-er, -est構成比較級和最高級。 long-- longer-- longest tall-- taller-- tallest
以不發音的e結尾的詞只在詞尾加-r，-st。 large- -larger --largest late---later--latest
以“輔音字母+y”結尾的詞則應先將y變為i,再加-er, -est。 busy--busier--busiest easy--easier--easiest
以重讀閉音節結尾，且詞尾只有一個輔音字母的詞，則雙寫這個輔音字母，再加-er, -est big--bigger-- biggest hot- -hotter- -hottest
多音節和部分雙音節詞在其前加more, most構成比較級和最高級。 difficult -more difficult -most difficult quickly- more quickly -most quickly
(2)不規則變化
good/well→better→best
much/many→more→most
far→farther/further→farthest/furthest

1.2.原級意義的表示
“as+形容詞／副詞原級＋as” 表示雙方在程度、特征等方面相等；
“not as/so+形容詞／副詞原級＋as” 表示“······不如······”。The cake is as heavy as the stone.蛋糕和那塊石頭一樣重。
1.3.比較級意義的表示
“形容詞／副詞比較級＋than” 表示一方超過或低于另一方的情況，意為“·····高于或低于······”。 Lucy is prettier than her sister.露西比她的妹妹漂亮。
“比較級＋and+比較級” 意為“越來越··.···”。 More and more people are losing their jobs.越來越多的人失業。
“the+比較級，the+比較級” 常表示一方的程度隨著另一方的程度平行增長，意為“越......越......”。 The more careful you are, the fewer mistakes you will make.你越細心，犯的錯誤就會越少。
“the+比較級＋of the two(+名詞）” 表示“兩者中較······的”。 Look at the two boys. Ben is the taller of the two.看那兩個男孩，本是兩個人中較高的那個。
1.4.最高級意義的表示
“the+最高級＋比較范圍” 表示“······是······中最······的”。 Who gets up the earliest of all in your dormitory 你們宿舍誰起得最早？
“one of the+最高級＋復數名詞” 表示“最······之一”。 The river is one of the longest rivers in our country.這條河是我國最長河流之一。
比較級用于否定句或與never,nothing等否定詞連用 表示最高級含義。 I've never had a more pleasant trip before.我以前從未有過如此快樂的旅行。（這是最快樂的一次旅行）
