There was a king. He was kind but he had a problem. When he spoke, his words
didn’t come out easily and he stammered(口吃). It made him very sad because a king
needs to talk to his people well.
One day, a man named Lionel came to help. Lionel was very patient. He asked the
king to do easy things first, like reading aloud and breathing in a special way.
The king practiced every day. He put stones in his mouth and tried to speak clearly. It
was not easy, but he didn't give up.
Then, a big war was coming. The king had to give a speech on the radio. He was very
nervous. But he thought of his people and how much they needed him.
He stood up straight and started to speak, “My people, we face a great danger. But we
have courage. We will be brave and we will win. ” His voice was a little shaky, but the
words came out.
The people listened. They heard their king's confidence and they were proud. From
that day on, the king was more confident and his people loved him even more.

Liu Wenwen has become one of the most famous suona players in the world. But her
learning journey was not easy at all.
In primary school, Liu got up at 4 a. m. every day. She practised in a garden near her
home because her neighbours thought it was too noisy.
When Liu was eight, her mother took her to big cities. She learned from famous
teachers. To save money, they had to sleep in the night trains.
When Liu was in middle school, things got better. By working hard, she finally
entered the Shanghai Conservatory of Music. There, she learned a lot.
In 2017, she played with Tan Dun, a famous composer, at the Sydney Opera House.
Her performances have surprised many people.
A few months ago, Liu Wenwen became China's first Ph.D. in the suona(嗩吶). She
thinks suona should be heard and played by more people.
