Do you like skiing When it comes to skiing, we have to know about one man—Shan Zhaojian. He is famous as China's “father of skiing”.
In 1938, Shan was born in Tonghua, a city known for its ice and snow. In the 1950s, China began to develop winter sports in the northeastern areas (東北地區(qū)), and Tonghua built its first crosscountry ski team. Shan joined it when he was 16. “Things were really difficult at that time. We had no money to buy good skis, so we made them by ourselves. Even so, I kept practising hard and believed we could do well,” he said. From 1957 to 1960, Shan won 10 medals in different skiing games.
Because of his poor health, Shan stopped skiing at the age of 24. But he didn’t give up the winter sport he loved. He worked as a ski instructor and head of the Chinese ski team. In 1998, Shan stopped his job as an instructor and spent more time studying the history of skiing, giving talks and holding activities about ice and snow sports in schools across the country. “I hope to see more people take part in ice and snow sports,” he said.

The US has lots of cheese. Milk makers in the US keep about 630 million kilograms of cheese.
So where does all the cheese come from, and why do makers keep it The answer is that farmers make too much milk in America. People can keep the cheese for a long time. So milk makers are turning the extra (額外的) milk into different types of cheese, such as Cheddar, Colby, Monterey Jack, and Swiss. People can eat different cheeses and more people buy the cheeses.
Americans drink less milk than before. In 1975, an American drank about 29 gallons (110 liters) of milk a year. In 2017, that number was down to about 17 gallons (66 liters). And now, for many reasons, farmers can get more milk from their cows. So there is more and more extra milk. When there’s too much of something, the price (價格) usually goes down. And the price of milk also goes down. So farmers don’t make as much money from their milk as before.
The US keeps the most cheese in the world for about 100 years. The 1.4 billion pounds of cheese is enough to build a cheese house. It’s amazing.
