1. make the information sheet for a display;
2. make a wall display of cultures around the world together;
3. work together with the group members and share the ideas with each other.

1. Make the information sheet of the culture of a country.
2. Prepare for the wall display.
III. Teaching procedures
Step 1 Lead-in
T: Today, we’ll learn to make a display of cultures around the world. I think team spirit is very important in this activity. I hope you can work together well with each other. As we all know, we live in such a big world. And there are about 200 countries in these six continents.

Step 2 Presentation
1. Free talk
T: First, each group should choose a country. Choosing a country you are interested in or familiar with is important. It’s better for different groups to choose different countries. Then we can make a display of cultures around the world. Now, answer these four questions:
(1) Which country are you interested in
(2) Which continent is it in
(3) What’s the capital city of the country
(4) What language is spoken in the country

2. Brainstorming
T: Next, let’s talk about the culture. When we talk about culture, what will you think of Maybe you’ll think of tourist attractions, great people in history, customs and beliefs and so on. And these questions may also give you some ideas:
(1) What is the country famous for
(2) What is the national song of the country
(3) What are the special festivals in the country
(4) What kind of crops does the country grow
(5) Which sport is popular in the country

3. Show how to make a map
T: I’d like to choose the culture of India as an example because I know a little about it. To make a display, we need a map. You can buy a map or draw one. If you draw a map, just draw the outline of some major countries. Do not draw everything too detailed. Stick or draw flag of the country on the map. Don’t forget to draw a compass at the bottom of your map and label the directions.
4. Collect information
T: India is an old country with a long history and rich culture. So I choose these aspects to include in my information sheet. Of course, we can look for information on the Internet or in the library. Let’s learn about the culture and collect the information at the same time.
(1) Capital city
T: As to the capital city, I collect some information on the Internet and make a brief introduction. New Delhi, the capital city of India, is a city with a long history. It lies in the northern part of the country. The Ganges River runs through the city silently. It is one of the wealthiest cities in India. The Asian Games took place here twice.
(2) Tourist attractions
T: Let’s play a guessing game to see how much you know about the tourist attractions in India. Look at the screen and guess which place it is.
T: I think you can stick the pictures and people you are going to talk about on your information sheet to make it more beautiful.
(3) Traditional clothes
T: We know Saris is women’s traditional clothes in India. Do you know more about Saris Tell me if the statements on the screen are true or false.
(4) Popular sports
T: Which of the following sports comes from India, Yoga, cricket or boxing
S: Yoga
T: Which of the following sports is the most popular in India, Yoga, cricket or boxing
S: Cricket.
(5) Famous people
T: There are many famous people in Indian history. The great person who impresses me a lot in Indian history is Rabindranath Tagore.
He was a poet, writer, artist and social activist. He won the Nobel Prize for literature in 1931. Of course, he wrote many wonderful works in his life. Among them, the world-famous one is The furthest distance in the world. Let’s enjoy it together.
T: Another great person in India is Gandhi. He was called Mahatma, which means great soul. And he was the non-violent leader of Indian independence. And he once said “There is no way to peace; peace is the way.”
(6) Main industries
T: We know that India has a large iron and steel industry. Look at the chart carefully. From it, we can know that IT industry in India plays a more and more important role in the world’s market. Here, we can use graphs or charts to show some facts to make comparisons. And another one is film industry. India has been the country that makes the most films these years in the world. Most of them are produced in Bollywood, which sounds like Hollywood.

1. Make a information sheet
T: After you choose a country you are going to present, collect the information as we just did. Then we’ll talk about how to make the information sheet. I think when we do it, we should pay attention to the followings: Read through your ideas and information carefully. Make a plan before you start writing. After writing the draft, check for spelling mistakes, especially the names of the countries, places and famous people. You can work together in your group to make it.

2. Present the work
T: At last, it’s time for you to take turns to present your work. Remember to use the map to show where the countries are. After the presentation, display all the information sheets on the wall around the map. Draw lines to join the sheets with the countries on the map.
Step 4 Summary
T: What is “culture” It’s hard to give it a definition. But we know it is very close to our daily life. And we have many other ways to learn about it around the world: reading, learning different languages, travelling, making friends and so on. So to learn about a country, begin with its culture.
