【句式解讀】
句中so that引導(dǎo)的從句在句中作目的狀語(yǔ)，作用上相當(dāng)于“in order that＋從句”.
(1) so that 引導(dǎo)目的狀語(yǔ)從句時(shí)相當(dāng)于in order that＋從句，從句中常用could，might等情態(tài)動(dòng)詞，該結(jié)構(gòu)可以改寫(xiě)為so as to do sth或in order to do sth.
My dad gave me the binoculars so that we can see the birds better.
① My father began to study computer in his sixties so that/in order that he might keep up with times.
＝ My father began to study computer in his sixties so as to/in order to keep up with times.
我爸爸在六十多歲時(shí)開(kāi)始學(xué)習(xí)電腦以便跟上時(shí)代。
(2) so that 也可引導(dǎo)結(jié)果狀語(yǔ)從句，一般不與could，might等情態(tài)動(dòng)詞連用。
② She hadn′t planned her time well so that she didn′t finish her work on time.
她沒(méi)有計(jì)劃好她的時(shí)間，因此她沒(méi)有按時(shí)完成她的工作。
