a written record of the things you do, see, etc. every day.

entry:
an item, for example a piece of information, that is writtten or printed in a dictionary, an account book, diary, etc.(詞典等的)條目;詞條;賬目;記錄
eg. There is no entry in his diary for that day.
高考應用文寫作——日記
日記是我們每天對所遇到的和所做的事情的簡單記錄。
1. 日記的格式與篇章結構格式:英文日記通常由書端和正文兩個部分組成。
書端是專門用以寫日記的日期、星期和天氣的。其中左上角寫日期(年、月、日)和星期,右上角寫當天的天氣情況。
(1)日期表達有多種形式。通常以月、日、年為順序,日和年用逗號隔開,月份可以縮寫。
(2)星期既可以放在日期前,也可放在日期后。若放在日期前,兩者用逗號隔開, 如:Saturday, October 22nd,2018。若放在日期后,星期和日期之間不用標點,但要空一格。
(3)天氣的書寫位置為右上角,一般用一個形容詞表示,首字母需大寫,如:Sunny, Fine, Rainy, Snowy。
正文篇章結構:通常由兩段組成。一段寫活動或事件經過,一段寫體會或感想。
注意:日記的正文是日記的主要部分。由于己載的內容通常已經發生,謂語動詞多用過去時。但也可根據具體情況,用其他時態,如文后發表感想或評論可用現在時態或將來時態,日記寫作力求簡單明了,有連貫性。
