Present continuous passive
① Look at the sentences from the reading passage and answer the questions.
1 What caused the action in sentence (a) The dress or the wind
2 What is happening to “me” in sentence (b)
The wind causes the action.
People around me are pushing me.
a And just look at how her dress is being folded by the wind!
b I’m being pushed around quite a bit, in fact.
Compare them with the following sentences and answer the questions.
c And just look at how the wind is folding her dress!
d People are pushing me around quite a bit, in fact.
3 What is the difference between the two groups of sentences
4 Why does the author choose to use the passive form instead of the active form in the reading passage
Sentences a and b are in the present continuous passive voice.
Sentences c and d are in the present continuous active voice.
Passive form is used when we need to give more importance to the object.
Now look for more sentences with the present continuous passive in the reading passage.
1. This broadcast is being brought to you from the largest museum on Earth.
2. About 35,000 works are currently being displayed in over 300 rooms in the Louvre.

Observe these sentences and fill in the blank.

基本用法
1. 主語是動作的承受者且動作正在發生(常有now, at present等標志詞)或持續。
A new teaching building is being built in our school.
2. 一種習慣的被動行為，常與always, constantly 等頻度副詞連用，常有贊賞或討厭等感彩。
I feel very surprised that the window of our classroom is frequently being broken.
3. 與某些情態動詞連用，表示對正在發生動作的推測。
The old man may be being watched over by a volunteer at the very moment.

特殊用法
1. 少數及物動詞的被動語態可用現在進行時表將來。
A popular song is being sung next.
A party is being held tonight.
2. 一些表“狀態、心理活動、擁有、存在”等的動詞, 如: have, want, need, love, realize等，一般不用于進行時。
Many, come here. You are wanted on the phone.
With the population increasing, more land is needed.
Live streaming is becoming more and more popular. In other words, it is loved by more and more people.

特殊用法
3. 少數動詞用于進行時態，用主動形式表示被動含義, 如: print, cook, fry, bake, burn, hang…
These magazines are printing.
The house is burning.
The meat is cooking.
4. 某些“介詞+名詞”的短語也可以表示正在進行著的被動動作, 常見的這些介詞有: on, under, in。
The castle is under attack at the moment.
= The castle is being attached at the moment.)

A possible answer:
In China, calligraphy has developed into a special high-level art apart from satisfying the needs of daily writing. I still remember that my father taught me how to practicing calligraphy with Chinese brushes.
As the old saying goes, the first step is always difficult.
It is never easy for me to hold a Chinese brush and handle it.
However, its unique lines ,rules for writing Chinese characters
and handwriting strongly attract me. Especially, I felt that
all efforts paid off when I saw my studies and bedrooms
were decorated.with nice-looking calligraphy works.

Yesterday, I went to an amazing Chinese art festival. There were different stands where artists could demonstrate their skills and teach the visitors! It was definitely an exciting experience for a foreign student like me.
What caught my attention first was a 15th-century qinghua bowl in a breathtaking exhibition of Chinese __________. It vividly illustrated a dragon playing with a ball.

Since it began in the late 20th century, the Contemporary Art Movement has raised questions and doubts, with people asking, “Is it really art ” This was the case in 1999 with British artist Tracey Emin’s work, My bed- which was, quite literally, her unmade bed.
Then, in 2015, cleaners in an Italian gallery threw away an art piece after mistaking the pile of empty bottles, cigarette ends and pieces of coloured paper for rubbish! While some say contemporary art lacks skill, meaning and artistic value, others argue that its worth lies in its ability to stimulate new discussions and understanding of everyday objects, such as water pipes and iron wires.
