protected.
In 1960, a researcher called Jane Goodall began to live with
and study wild chimpanzees in Africa. She learned that they are
smart animals and can communicate. They make tools to find
food, and they can decide which groups to join and what food
to eat. Chimpanzees look for food together and often share their
own food. In zoos and science centers, they can learn American
Sign Language so that they can communicate with their
hands. Experiments have shown that a few chimpanzees have
learned to use computers and play games! Some scientists ar-
gue that chimpanzees can show feelings such as happiness or
sadness.
Nowadays, chimpanzees are in danger every day. In the wild,
they can be found in 21 different African countries, living in
forests. Chimpanzees are able to get used to the changes in their
environment. They can move to a new place, make a new
house, and find new food. Yet people are destroying their natural
habitats. By cutting down trees for firewood and using the
space to build houses, humans leave chimpanzees with smaller
areas to live in.
Chimpanzees are in danger, and all eyes should be on them.
Luckily, many organizations and researchers have started to
take steps to protect them. Everyone should know about their
work and it is important to help these amazing animals.

One day, several boys decided to play a football game. Each
one of them brought something for the game: a ball, a whistle
(哨子), corner flags and so on. Before the game started, they
needed to choose the teams. They decided that the boy who
brought the most important thing would choose the team first.
They thought it was the fairest. However, everyone thought that
they brought the most important thing. They argued (爭論)
over the matter.
A boy said that the whistle was not necessary because someone
could shout instead. So, they put the whistle to one side. Then
they found something to take the place of the corner flags...
Finally, they put the football to one side and used an old tin (金屬
罐) instead.
They started to play. But the game didn’t go well. The boy who
served as the referee (裁判) needed to shout out all the time.
And he quickly got a sore throat (喉嚨痛). The tin didn’t compare with the ball. The boys often kicked the tin out of bounds
(界限) because there were no corner flags.
The boys had to stop the game. One boy said that without the
ball and other things, they couldn’t play a good game. Because
of their selfish (自私的) thoughts, a great game had turned into
something boring. He told everyone that they should use the
proper things for the game. Other boys all agreed.

Seiichi Sano, an 89-year-old Japanese man, rides a wave at
Katase Nishihama Beach, Thursday, March 30, 2023. He has
been recognized as the oldest male to surf(沖浪) by the Guinness World Records.
But maybe he will just keep surfing. “I think it would be
interesting to try to surf until I‘m 100,” Sano said. “I think I
take better care of myself when I have dreams like this. Even
now, I take better care of myself than I did before.”
Sano said he got the idea to try surfing from a worker at his
local bank. The man’s skin was always dark and he did not look
like a usual worker. His secret to keeping healthy and energetic,
he said, was surfing. So, Sano found a teacher.
Sano gets out most weekends on the black sand beach. “I
don’t consider myself an old man,” he said in his wet suit, a
board standing next to him. “I have never thought of myself as
an old person. I always feel that I can still move forward. I can
still do it. I can still enjoy it.”
Several young students who also work with Sano‘s surf teacher
talked about Sano.
“I think age doesn’t matter in surfing,” a 12-year-old surfer
said.
“He is so amazing,” added his younger brother.
“To be honest, I was surprised by his age,” said Sano’s
surfing teacher. “I was worried that he would get hurt. I did not
know how fit he was.”
Sano still works 9-to-5 at his job. Surfing helps make him less
stressed. “People often say that surfing is life itself,” he said.
“I think it is true.”

In a little fishing village in Southern Thailand, there are some
boys who like to play football. They play with a lot of excitement and interest, running, jumping and kicking. These boys are really
good at controlling the ball because their football field is a raft
(木筏) in the middle of the sea. They live on Koh Panyee Island,
but even though it is small, the football team from the village has
been very successful. The Panyee Football Club won seven
South Thailand Youth Soccer Championships from 2004 to 2010.
The story of the Panyee Football Club began in 1986 when
some young boys from the village were watching the World
Cup on TV. Suddenly one of the boys said, “We watch football
on TV, but we’ve never played it.” The boys made a decision.
“Our football team starts today. We want to become world
champions!” they shouted. But the villagers laughed at them.
They asked, “Have you found a football field yet How can you
practise ”
The boys made up their mind to make their dream come true.
They used old fishing boats and pieces of wood to make a floating
(漂浮的) football field. They practised for hours every day, even
when it was very wet and smooth after a heavy rain. In their first

One possible version:
Teamwork is very important in our daily work. It offers us
chances to learn how to get along well with others and learn
from each other. What’s more, good teamwork can also lead
our work to success.
I once invited Sarah to work together with me to improve
our class. At first, we often argued with each other. But later we
came to realize we needed to work together if we wanted to
succeed. In the end I said sorry to Sarah. And then we began to
work together in cleaning up the classroom, taking part in all
kinds of activities with classmates and so on.
The experience made me understand that as teammates, we
should trust and respect each other. To collaborate well, it’s
important to learn to communicate with each other, listen to
each other and take responsibility. After all, many hands make
light work. We need teamwork in our daily work.
