Making Requests
39.It may seem like a simple request to ask for salt and pepper at a meal. In Portugal, this would be a serious mistake, because it shows the chef that you don't like their seasoning skills. Similarly, in Italy, never ask for extra cheese to add to your food.

F.Never stick them upright in your food or cross them as you use them
G.It may seem like a simple request to ask for salt and pepper at a meal
[解析] 空后為逗號,且空后的句子前沒有連詞引導,故空格處不能填一個獨立的句子;然后看后面句子的結構the more...,我們就能想到“the+比較級...,the+比較級...”結構,這樣就把答案范圍限定在A、B兩項中;再根據空后內容可知,你就會對它的外國文化習俗感到越舒服。
[典例2] (2024·浙江卷1月)In the past few years, online learning has become a significant part of the university and college experience. 36.A survey found that 29 percent of college students registered for online courses. But are all online courses created equal How can you be sure that digital learning is right for you 37.________________________________ ______________________________________ We interviewed students and professors to get their advice about online courses.

Quiet Quitting
While not a new concept, the term “quiet quitting” has recently gained popularity on social media.
體裁 主題語境 難度
說明文 躺平 ★★★★☆
  What is quiet quitting
Quiet quitting doesn't mean an employee has left their job, but rather has limited their tasks to avoid working longer hours. 1. _______________ ______________________________________. They stick to what is in their job description and when they go home, they leave work behind them and focus on non-work duties and activities.
1.C 空后一句說明了員工會把工作和生活明確分開,保持工作與生活的平衡,這與選項C所表達的意思一致,是對選項C的具體說明;同時,選項C與上一句銜接合理,符合語境。
C.They set clear boundaries to improve work-life balance
2._____________________________________________________ ___________________________. It may also mean they are ready to change positions or may be currently looking for another job.

E.However, quiet quitting could be a sign that an employee is not happy in their position
  3.________________________________________?
Quiet quitting may be a popular term, but this practice isn't new. Workers have quietly quit their jobs for years to look for something new, whether it was because of poor pay, unmanageable workload, burnout or lack of growth opportunities.
3.A 分析文章結構可知,空處為段落主題句,且空后為問號,故答案范圍限定在A、B兩項中。根據下文中的“Workers have quietly quit their jobs...lack of growth opportunities.”可知,這部分主要在講述員工躺平的原因。
A.Why are employees quietly quitting
Working from home has also changed the dynamics of the workplace because employees and managers are communicating in different ways through online meetings. These interactions may feel more formal than the chat sessions that happen in an office. Limited meetings can cause a disconnect between employees and management. 4. _________________ __________________________________________________________.
4.F 空前一句提到有限的會議可能會導致員工和管理層之間的脫節。選項F進一步說明了有限的會議所造成的不利影響,句意承接上文,符合語境。

What to Do When You Have a Travel Itch (渴望)
You Can't Scratch
Travel is a pretty universally loved experience. Of course, it's also expensive and it's not always easy to make time for it.
體裁 主題語境 難度
說明文 無法實現旅行時的做法 ★★★☆☆
If you're itching to travel but it's not in the cards in your foreseeable future, 1._______________________________________.
1.C 根據空前的逗號可知,答案的第一個單詞不應大寫(專有名詞除外),因此把答案限定在C、E兩項上。上文提到渴望旅行卻暫時無法實現,下文具體介紹了無法旅行期間的一些做法,C項承上啟下,符合語境。
C.here's how to make do in the meantime
Come up with a plan, even a long-term one
Travel is expensive. That may be painfully true. 2._______________ ______________________________________________________. A great question to ask when you feel defeated is “What if?” For example, when I was in student loan debt, there seemed to be no way I could afford to take a vacation.
2.G 上文提到一個令人痛苦的事實:旅行很昂貴。分析選項,G項中的“it's also true”承接上文,符合語境,且G項中的“many of us give up easily”呼應下文中的“when you feel defeated”。
G.But it's also true that many of us give up easily when it comes to our finances
I asked myself, though, what if I picked up a side job and used that cash to pay the debt, too Personally, I was surprised at the possibilities the answer offered; and it made me feel less stuck. Waiting two years for a trip was better than spending two years frustrated and restless.
Make the most of the wait
Oddly enough, we might be happier planning and expecting a trip more than we are actually taking it. A research published in the journal Applied Research found that anticipation played an important role in pre-trip happiness between vacationers and non-vacationers .
Holiday trips are experiences which people look forward to. For most, the enjoyment starts weeks, even months before the holiday actually begins. 3._____________________________________________________________________.
3.F 根據本段小標題“Make the most of the wait”以及空前一句可知,本段主要講述的是充分利用等待旅行的這段時間,享受這段時間里對旅行的期待,F項符合語境。
F.So we can take advantage of the wait and enjoy the happiness it brings
  4.__________________________________
Travel is really about new things. Overall, we get to break out of our everyday life and reconnect with ourselves. Our routines and systems might make us super productive, but it's easy to get stuck in them, too. After a while, a routine can make you feel robotic and mindless, and you start to desire something different.
4.B 空處是段落小標題,根據本段中的“Travel is really about new things...reconnect with ourselves.”可知,本段講述的是從日常生活中解脫出來,B項符合語境。
B.Break out of your everyday routine
5.___________________________________________________________. Beyond saving up and coming up with a plan, you can feed some of the itching by making the most of the wait and making your everyday life a little more adventurous.
5.D 上文提到,例行公事會讓人厭倦,人們會渴望一些新鮮的東西。D項承接上文,D項中的This指代上文中的“you start to desire something different”。
D.This is often the case when the travel itch comes around
A.Take regular breaks
B.Break out of your everyday routine
C.here's how to make do in the meantime

I keep two reference books close-by on my desk:dictionary and thesaurus (同義詞詞典). I don't trust my laptop's spellchecker. 37.It takes no account of the context. Of course, these days there are plenty of online dictionaries and thesauruses, but I'm old-fashioned enough to prefer a hard cover and pages I can leaf through with my fingers. I use the Concise Oxford Dictionary and the Collins Thesaurus.
38.____________________________________________ It should give you a precise definition of each word, thus differentiating it from other words whose meanings are similar, but not identical. It will also usually show how the word is pronounced.
E.Of course, a dictionary is not only for spelling.
A.I don't often use this dictionary.
B.It takes no account of the context.
C.But I still don't want to replace them.
D.But a dictionary can be a pleasure to read.
E.Of course, a dictionary is not only for spelling.
F.That means good grammar and no spelling mistakes.
G.Dictionaries don't always give you enough information.
Not all great writers are great spellers. If you want to be published, it's vital to submit a perfect, professionally presented manuscript (原稿). 36._______________________________________________ No editor is likely to tolerate a writer who does not take the trouble to spell words correctly.
F.That means good grammar and no spelling mistakes.
Choose mindfully. Overvisited destinations are that way for a reason: they're special. With so many online posts featuring the same places, it's easy to feel like you're missing out. Go somewhere only when the landscape, culture or food deeply draws you. 37._____________________ ________________
C.Travel for you and no one else.
A.Visit during off-peak times.
B.So, should we stop traveling
C.Travel for you and no one else.
D.Can overtourism be avoided then
E.You can still find relatively undiscovered places.
F.You'll find yourself virtually alone, or close to it.
G.Consider giving back to the communities you're visiting.
[解析] 本題考查段落總結句。本段主旨句是“Choose mindfully.”,再根據空前信息句“Go somewhere...draws you.”可推知,只有當目的地的景色、文化或食物真正吸引你時你再去。空處在結尾處,應該緊扣本段主旨句和空前內容,點明旅行應是為自己而不是為別人,與上文形成順承關系。
