What do people think of the“double reduction” policy Do
you like after-school activities Parents, teachers and students
have their own ideas about it.
In a study, over 85% of parents think health comes first. They
think after-school activities, such as swimming, playing basket-
ball and football, are good for children. And the after-school ac-
tivities at school are not expensive, so they can save a lot of
money. With no homework at home, parents and their children
can have time to read and listen to music they like together.
Most students are happy with the “double reduction” policy.
They do homework at school and have much time to do their
favourite activities after school. They also like to do some spe-
cial homework, such as cooking and cleaning at home.
Teachers think after-school activities at school are important to

B
(2024北京海淀區(qū)期末)
Mary has always been one of the best students in her class. She
often says to herself, “If I try a bit harder, I can improve still
more.” Once again, her grades top the list when she enters
high school. But then she begins to worry, “How can I keep
this up What if I get a bad grade What would others think
How can I look myself in the mirror if I'm not perfect ”
Mary is an example of a high-achieving student whose out-
standing performance in school has made her a perfectionist.
Perfectionists often have very high standards and are overly
critical (批評的) of themselves if they fall short of those stan-
dards.
A study among students aged 12 to 19 shows that high academ-
ic (學業(yè)的) achievement is a common reason for the develop-
ment of perfectionism. It has long been believed that perfec-
tionism leads to better performance. In this view, perfectionism
has a bright side because it drives students to perform better
and better. But the new study questions this. Actually, it sup-
ports the opposite idea—high performance leads to increases in
perfectionism. That is, it's not perfectionism that makes students
better at what they do, but the other way around. Continuous
positive feedback (反饋) seems to push students to work
harder for more and, as they realize they can reach their high
goals, they raise their standards even higher.
It should also be noted that research generally points to the
benefits of high academic success. However, this new study
once again challenges that idea. Academic success may come
with certain costs. Students may come to see it as both a re-
sponsibility and a burden (負擔), believing that they need to
keep this perfect image that has already been formed. So, stu-
dents who have achieved academic success are likely to suffer
from the fear of making mistakes, performing poorly in exams
and losing the respect of others. If they do so, they've fallen in-
to the trap (陷阱) of perfectionism.
There are many top students like Mary, who are used to getting
the best grades. They have developed a perfectionist mindset,
thinking their lives would be destroyed if they ever failed. It's
very important that these students should learn not only how to
achieve academic success, but also how to deal with that suc-
cess without falling into the trap of perfectionism.
24.The words “fall short of” in Paragraph 2 probably mean
“ ”.
A.refuse to raise B.hold on to
C.fail to meet D.keep up with
C
25.What can we learn from the new study in the passage
A.High academic achievement is likely to deepen perfectionism.
B.Perfectionism drives students to improve their learning habits.
C.Top students benefit greatly from being perfectionists.
D.More criticism pushes students to reach theirgoals.
A
26.The writer probably agrees that .
A.making mistakes comes with certain costs
B.getting good grades stops students from enjoying life
C.students can actually grow from challenges in their studies
D.students should learn to properly deal with academic success
D
27.(新考法·寫作目的題)What is the writer's main purpose in

B.To discuss how to keep perfect images at school.
C.To advise students against having high expectations.

剔,所以fall short of意為“沒有達到”,與fail to meet意思相
近。故選C。
25.推理判斷題。根據(jù)第三段中的“Actually, it supports the
opposite idea—high performance leads to increases in perfec-
tionism.”可知,這項新研究認為高表現(xiàn)會導致完美主義的增
加。由此推知,高學業(yè)成就可能會加深完美主義。故選A。
26.推理判斷題。根據(jù)最后一段中的“It's very important that
these students should learn... how to deal with that success
without falling into the trap of perfectionism.”

Ways to Fight Tiredness
Everyone gets tired—it's a normal part of human existence. It
can make us grouchy (好抱怨的) and grumpy at the end of the
day, but a good night's sleep will often leave us feeling well-
rested. However, sometimes we feel more than just general
tiredness. We can get overtired. Feeling a bit run-down may af-
fect our daily lives—but what can we do about it Here are
some things that may stop you from getting overtired.

choices: a poor diet, lack of exercise, or an inefficient routine.
For some people, changes to their habits and routines could
help them to beat bouts of extreme tiredness. First, let's look at
physical health. According to the UK National Health Service
(NHS) website, eating healthy meals around 3-4 times per day
could improve your energy levels. Giving your body the fuel it
needs could help you to be more energetic, and therefore, less
tired. If you're feeling overtired, you might not want to exer-
cise. However, having regular physical activities may actually
mean you are less tired in general.
Activities like jogging or cycling could also help you get fitter.
And being more active could help you lose weight, which can
also aid you in the battle against tiredness. Those extra kilos
from being overweight put a lot of strain on your heart, which
makes you exhausted and leads to you feeling more tired.
Another thing that can leave us feeling exhausted and fatigued
(精疲力竭的) is stress. Reducing your stress levels may help
you to feel less tired on a regular basis. Taking up an activity
like yoga or going for a walk could help you to unwind and feel
more refreshed. And you may think if you're feeling tired, a
good cup of coffee will make you active again. However, the
Royal College of Psychiatrists recommends anyone feeling
tired to cut down on their caffeine intake, especially after mid-
afternoon, to get better sleep at night.
Finally, if you do find yourself feeling overtired constantly for
days or weeks, you may be suffering from fatigue or exhaustion.
If so, it could be a good idea to visit the doctor. Also, getting a
few good nights' sleep can work.

29.How often do people eat healthy meals to improve energy

題目①
Dear Mike,
Thanks for trusting me. From your letter, I know you had a
fight with your mom because of chores. And you have no idea
how to communicate with your mom. Here are my opinions.
It's common to have these problems. Sometimes I have the
same problem. I think you should share the housework. There
are three reasons. First, you are a member of your family.
Second, you can develop some life skills while you are doing the housework. Third, you can learn to be independent.
Don't fight with your mother because she loves you so much.
You can write a letter and say sorry to her. I'm sure she will
forgive you.
I hope you will get along well with your parents.
Yours,
Li Hua

100% right or wrong. In our communication with others, the final purpose is not to decide who is right or who is wrong, but to look
for something in common.
If you still feel strong anger, try taking a deep breath (呼吸)

angry words when you are very angry, for you will regret saying
them when you cool down.
Discussing with a third party is helpful. It is hard for the two
parties in anger to understand each other, but the idea of an out-

Closing the Gap
Sometimes, kids don't think their parents are fair to them. When
you want to dress in a modern way, your mum won't allow you
to wear a mini-skirt. When you are making a phone call, they
will ask who you're speaking to. Those make teenagers unhap-
py and even less patient. Sometimes it seems that you're not as
close to your parents as you used to be. How can you change
such a situation
Closing the Gap by the American writer Jay McGraw gives ad-
vice on how to have a better relationship with your parents. The
book gives ways to help teenagers understand their parents.
Both parents and children have needs. They need to feel they
are important and loved. You should tell your parents your
needs, and find out what their needs are. Maybe you can think
of a way to make all of you happy. Jay also explains to parents
how their teenagers wish to be treated and cared for. He shows
teens that gaining power can come only from earning respect.
When you think “my parents don't want me to have any
fun”, it usually means your parents want you to be happy. The
book gives you lots of ideas:you can make time to talk. To get
your parents to know what you're doing and what you want to
do, you could talk about your school life now and your dreams
for the future. It helps your parents know more about you. You
can also keep a diary to help you understand more about your-
self and your feelings. It's necessary to show your parents you
are growing up. Wash your own clothes and help around the
house. Your parents will feel you are no longer a child. If you
follow these steps, you will be able to break down the walls be-
tween you and your parents. Your home will be a happier place.
13.Do kids think their parents are fair to them sometimes

We have more or less trouble to face in our life. These things
may give you too much stress (精神壓力) which is bad for your
development. What can you do to solve this kind of problem
As a student, managing all the schoolwork and getting good
grades are at the top of your stress list. You have a large
amount of schoolwork to do every day. Although your scores
are not terrible, you may still worry that your scores are not as
high as you have expected. Why not make a daily or weekly
plan in such a case In this way, you can save more time to
study and even avoid being too tired by taking some breaks.
Don't be too strict with yourself. Just do what you can do. If
you meet something beyond (超越) your ability, just go to your
teacher for help—pick his or her brain or make any question
you don't understand clear.
Have you ever been anxious about not having many friends in
school or not being in the same class as your best friends Hav-
ing a bad relationship (關系) with new classmates is also our
common stress. It is important to choose your circle of friends.
Don't hide yourself in your own world and try to make friends
when you participate in after-school activities. Make plans to
meet your friends from other classes during break time. Know
that everyone is different—do not compare yourself with oth-
ers. You'll be less stressed that way.
Unhealthy eating habits and lack (缺乏) of sleep can also lead
to stress. You are what you eat. Make healthy food choices that
you can enjoy. Set a certain time to go to bed every night. Don't
play computer or mobile games before you sleep. Do see a
doctor if your sleeping problem continues.
The more successfully you deal with your stress, the better you
will feel about yourself. Try out the above advice right away.
