1. 意為“應該;被期望……”。主語是人時,意為“應該;被期望……”,相當于情態(tài)動詞should;主語是物時,意為“本應;本該”,指“某事本應該發(fā)生而沒有發(fā)生”。
e.g. You are supposed to shake hands when you meet someone for the first time in China.在中國與某人第一次見面時,你應該握手。
The plane was supposed to arrive at 6:00. 飛機本應該6點鐘到。

2. 其否定結(jié)構(gòu)為be not supposed to,意為“不被許可;不應該”。
