IV. Teaching procedures
Step 1 lead-in
T asks Ss to read the e-mail from a foreign teacher.

How is everything going We havn’t seen each other for a long time, and miss you very much. I’m writing to you to tell an important thing. Fifty teachers from Boston are coming to Shanghai next month. The teachers group will attend a conference and give some lectures as well. The group teacher also want to visit your school to learn about Chinese methods of education. We will stay in Shanghai for five days in total, we will spend 3 days working and then we will have 2 days to explore your city. I’d like you to make a two-day travel plan for our teachers. They are eager to see the best of what Shanghai has to offer.

Step 2 Before writing
Learning the structure of an e-mail
What is the structure of an e-mail Or draw a mind map of an e-mail.
Beginning sentences (greetings and the purpose of the writing)
An e-mail Introduce our city briefly
Arrange a travel plane and make a list of the activities
Ending sentences (offering our warm welcome)
Learning the language
In the beginning of an e-mail we can use the following sentences:

Knowing that you will...
I’m writing in response to your letter...
It is my honour to invite you to our school.
At the end of an e-mail we can use the following sentences:
I am looking forward to getting your early reply.
I would appreciate it if....
I am sure you will have a wonderful time.
Introduction to our city
Basic information、 food 、culture 、tourist attractions、 culture products
Make a list of the activities
Show them around the tourist attractions in the city such as Jingan Temple The Bund etc.
Have meals in some famous restaurants.such as Yu Garden
Buy some souvenirs in Nanjing Road, Xuhui District

Step 3 Cooperative writing
T asks Ss to make a draft in groups, then present their e-mail to the class.

Well organized sentences;
Proper link words;
Beautiful handwriting.

Step 4 Shareing and peer review
T asks one member of each group to share their writing with the class. First read their e-mails aloud, then evaluate their writing according to the requirements:
Is structure of the e-mail correct
Is writing well-organized
Are there any gammar mistakes in the e-mail?
Are there any proper linking words to make the writing logiacl
Is the e-mail friendly and polite
Is the handwriting beautiful

I am so glad to receive your e-mail and happy to know you along with fifteen teachers will come to our city to attend a meeting, then will spend two days exploring our city. Welcome to Shganghai. I d like to be your guide. Shanghai is a moden city with long histroy, there are many skyscrapers and tourists of attractions. On the first day we can start with a visit to a main atraction--The bund,where you and can have a view of Shanghai modern skyline. Then you can visit Shanghai Tower, enjoying the world’s highest viewing platforms. In the afternoon I will show you aroun Yuhui District, walking along the leafy street and enjoying elegant café in Frence-style areas. In the evening you can taste some chinese trditional food in the local restaurant. On the morning of the second day you can visit Shanghai Museum and appreciate amazing autiques, including Ming vases and Oing funiture, and after that we can do some souvenir shopping and try the local snacks, in the evening our school will hold a farewell party for you .
