一、Teaching Objectives 1. Language skills Students will be able to understand and use the key vocabulary and sentence structures related to rules and personal feelings. Students will be able to read and understand the two letters about rules. Students will be able to express their opinions and thoughts about rules in oral and written forms. 2. Language knowledge Master the key words and phrases: make one's bed, be late for, focus on, build school spirit, hang out. Understand and use the sentence patterns: I have to...; I mustn't...; You can... 3. Cultural awareness Understand the importance and cultural differences of rules in different countries and environments. 4. Thinking quality Analyze and think critically about the advantages and disadvantages of rules. Develop logical thinking and the ability to express personal opinions. 5. Learning ability Improve the ability to learn independently and cooperatively. Cultivate the habit of observing and summarizing language rules. 二、Teaching Key Points 1. Help students understand the content of the two letters and master the key language points. 2. Enable students to express their thoughts and feelings about rules in English. 三、Teaching Difficult Points 1. How to guide students to think critically about the role of rules and express their own viewpoints accurately. 2. How to help students overcome the difficulties in language output and use the learned language knowledge flexibly. 四、Teaching Methods 1. Task-based teaching method: Design various tasks to help students complete the learning goals step by step. 2. Communicative teaching method: Encourage students to communicate and express their ideas in English. 3. Cooperative learning method: Organize students to work in groups to discuss and solve problems together. 五、Teaching Procedure Step 1: Warming-up (5 minutes) 1. Greet the students and have a free talk with them. How was your weekend Did you have a good time 2. Show some pictures of different situations with rules and ask students to guess what the rules are. For example, a picture of a classroom with students sitting quietly and the teacher teaching. (Students may guess: We mustn't talk loudly in class.) Step 2: Lead-in (5 minutes) 1. Ask students: Do you have many rules at home or at school What are they 2. Have a few students share their rules and their feelings about them. Step 3: Pre-reading (5 minutes) 1. Present the title of the passage: How can rules help us 2. Ask students to predict what the passage might be about based on the title. Step 4: While-reading (15 minutes) 1. Fast reading Have students read Alice's letter quickly and answer the question: Why is Alice unhappy Check the answers with the class. 2. Careful reading Have students read the letters carefully again and complete the table on the blackboard. Have students work in pairs to check their answers. Invite some pairs to share their answers with the class and correct if necessary. Step 5: Post-reading (10 minutes) 1. Group discussion Divide students into groups of four and ask them to discuss the following questions: Do you think Alice's rules are too strict Why or why not What rules do you think are important at home and at school Why Encourage students to express their opinions freely and have a group representative report their group's discussion results. 2. Role-play Have two students act as Alice and Dr Know. They have a conversation based on the letters and express their feelings and thoughts about the rules. Other students listen carefully and give comments. Step 6: Summary and Homework (5 minutes) 1. Summarize the key points of this lesson: the rules mentioned in the letters and the expressions used to talk about rules and personal feelings. 2. Assign homework: Preview the next part of the unit.
