Step 1 Reading
1. Reading for the theme and structure of the text

T: What do you think makes a job applicant successful in an interview Make a list of the qualities that you think are the most important and explain why.

Researching the industry and company. Being knowledgeable about the job I am applying for and the company itself. This shows that I have taken the time to do some research and that I am serious about the job.
Preparing examples to support my skills and qualifications. Listing all my strong skills is not enough. Step 3 Understand the complex sentences
T: Paraphrasing a sentence means reconstruct the sentence to deliver the difficult sentence in an easy way without changing the meaning of the original text.
T: Paraphrase the following sentences:
1. Keep at it until you can concisely and confidently present your best self. (選必四P39)
1. Don’t give up practicing, or you can’t express yourself exactly with confidence.
2. Remember, be an early bird and arrive at least half an hour before your confirmed interview time. (選必四P39)

1. The odds are that you’ve never been a candidate for a particular job before, but my advice will help you gain the upper hand as you set off and step into the world of employment. (選必四P39)
1. The main body of the sentence is “The odds are that…but my advice will help you gain the upper hand…” with “but” connecting two simple sentences, with “that” leading predicative clause, with “as” guiding an adverbial clause.
