When I was a child in Minnesota, watermelon was expensive. One of my father’s friends, Bernie was a rich businessman who had 21 own large store in St. Paul.
Every summer, when the first watermelons 22 , Bernie would call. Dad and I would go to Bernie’s place. We’d sit on the dock (碼頭) and 23 a big meal.
Bernie would take his 24 , cut our first watermelon, hand us both a big piece and sit down next to us. Then we’d bury (埋入) our 25 in watermelon, eating the only part—the reddest, juiciest and 26 part—and throw away the rest (其余的).
Bernie was my father’s idea of a rich man. I always 27 it was because he was such a successful businessman. Years later, I began to understand that it was not Bernie’s wealth (財(cái)富) 28 but his living way that my father liked. What I learned from Bernie is that being 30 is a kind of mind. Maybe some of us have much money, but they will 31 be free enough to eat only the nicest part of the watermelon. If you don’t take the time to enjoy life’s small 32 , your work is probably hurting your life. For many 33 , I forgot that lesson I learned as a child on the dock. I was too busy 34 all the money I could.
Well, I’ve relearned it. I hope I have more 35 to enjoy the success of others and to take pleasure in the day. That’s the best of the watermelon. I have learned again to throw the rest away.

第一節(jié) (共15小題 每小題2分 共30分)
One day it was raining heavily. I was late for a meeting in a nearby city that I knew only by GPS, and my phone died. I couldn’t find out how to get there or how to reach my friends.
I stopped at a McDonald’s in a poor part of a town and walked up to a mother and her daughter. “I’m sorry,” I said. “Do you mind if I make a call with your phone I need to let my friends know I’m lost.” She handed me her phone and then told me I was lucky to make the last call—she was about to turn it off because she didn’t have enough money to pay her phone bill.
The young girl and the mother were holding each other and talking together as I made the call. I got in touch with my friends. They, thankfully, knew where I was and told me how to get to them.
As I was leaving, I reached into my wallet. Luckily, there was a $20 bill. I put it into the mother’s hand and then turned to leave quickly. As I walked through the doors, I heard the mother crying. Her daughter called after me and said, “You have no idea how you just helped us.”
I still think back to that day even now. They had no idea how much they helped me, yet I was the one being thanked. It’s funny how that works.

Gui Haichao is not only an astronaut but also a teacher of a university. On May 30th, 2023, he took the Shenzhou-16 Spacecraft with Jing Haipeng, Zhu Yangzhu and flew to space. And they successfully landed on the earth on October 31st, 2023.
Gui was born in a village in Yunnan in 1986. His interest in space began at the age of 17 when he got the news of Yang Liwei’s trip to space on the radio. The news inspired (激勵(lì)) him. At that time, he dreamed of being an astronaut like Yang. Gui trained hard for his dream.
In his free time, he likes doing some sports, such as running, riding bikes and swimming. He also enjoys keeping a diary. He often writes something before going to bed.
In the eyes of his students, Gui is hard-working. “During his training, he keeps reading our essays (論文). Sometimes during dinner time, he would call me to give advice on my essays. He is really a helpful teacher and I like him,” one of his students says. Gui is also popular with his coworkers. “He is always outgoing and we never see him worry about anything,” his coworkers say.

We need animals. Every animal has its place in the balance (平衡) of nature. We should try to help save animals. Should we have zoos
Group YesWe think zoos are good places. The zoos give animals comfortable and safe living places. If animals get hurt or ill, people will take care of them. The zoo is a place to know rules in the wild (野生的) world. We can be much closer to nature. We can know more about animals in zoos by watching, listening and even smelling instead of just looking at pictures in books. Group NoWe don’t think animals feel happy in zoos. Animals like pandas, wolves and bears usually live in the wild. They play and find food on their own. They are strong and happy in the wild. If they are in zoos, food is enough and rooms are comfortable. They do not need to do their best to find food to eat or places to stay. They just walk around, sleep day and night, but they are not free at all.
I think we should build national parks as wildlife nature reserves (保護(hù)區(qū)) and advise farmers to leave reserves. If we do nothing, animals will get fewer and fewer.
45.In which section of a newspaper can you read the passage
A.Nature. B.Hobbies. C.Health. D.Sports.

Since then, I’ve been turning our meals into art pieces a few of the days each week. These meals each takes 25 to 40 minutes to make. I only use fresh and healthy foods to make them. I color some parts of the meals, but only with natural ingredients, so everything is safe to eat.
After watching the movie Turning Red, I fell in love with the main character, Meilin. I decided to make her the star of one of my meals. First, I made her face out of potatoes. Then, I colored her mouth with some watermelon juice. After that, I made her teeth from a boiled egg. Her hair was made out of eggplants (茄子). And I turned half an apple and some pancakes into her shirt. Last, I cut out her hairpin (發(fā)夾) and glasses from pieces of a carrot.
My little ones love these interesting meals. Shirley always gives me suggestions on how I can make the characters live. Jacob likes to talk with me about what ingredients I should use. I really enjoy making these pieces with their help!
