Teaching proceduresStep 1 Lead-in1. Set the goal of this classSs read a letter from a student studying in the UK and should be clear about the goal of this class.【設計意圖:通過讀信的形式,引起學生興趣,明確本課目標。】2. Free talkT asks Ss to talk about aspects about their school. Ss can use ideas in the textbook, such as lessons, teachers, school history, school events, clubs, teaching buildings, labs, library, computer room …Ss think of other aspects, such as school canteens, dormitories, school stadium …【設計意圖:讓學生回顧前面所學內容,聯系生活實際,激發學生興趣。同時,鼓勵學生發散性思維,不拘泥書本,拓展思維。】Step 2 Class discussionHow to nail down a topicSs make comparisons of different topics, choose the better one and give reasons. e.g. Ss compare the topic “campus culture” with “annual sports meet”, and then compare the topic “English classes” with “English classes given by foreign teachers”.Ss summarize the features of a good topic: be specific and be interesting.2. Give students an example: the topic “school events”. T encourages Ss to think about the following questions: Do you think it is a good topic If so, why If not, can you narrow it down “School events” is a good topic, because it is interesting. But there are many school events in a school. So it still can be narrowed down to the Science and Technology Festival, the Arts Festival, the Sports Festival, etc. That way, the topic becomes more specific.3. Ss divide themselves into groups and decide on a topic in the group. Students should apply the rules—be specific and be interesting—when they’re discussing what topic they will decide on.【設計意圖:通過比較的方式讓學生直觀理解好的話題應該是什么樣的,羅列原因有助于鍛煉學生的深度思維和邏輯思維能力。通過總結選擇好話題的原則提高學生歸納學習的能力。給學生一個sample, 一起討論并確定一個話題,有助于學生把所學的知識運用到實際,最終幫助學生自己確定一個好的話題。】Step 3 Group discussionHow to get information1. Students discuss different aspects of their topic to be included in their booklet. First, T asks Ss what they want to know about their school events. And then Ss take down their questions. e.g. How many school events do we have When are these school events held Who can take part in these school events What do students do in these school events 2. Students learn how to search for information.Teacher asks the question: Where can you find the answers you need Ss think of ways of getting information and classify the ways into two categories: research and interview.3. Ss learn how to search for information online and summarize rules of selecting information: information should be accurate and reliable.T asks the following questions: How can you find information you want online What are the key words if you want to find information about school events online What websites will you visit School website or Baidu Why What can you get from the websites Any other ways to get pictures 【設計意圖:學生通過小組學習認識鑒別可靠的信息的原則,提高搜索信息和鑒別信息的能力。點撥學生其他獲取信息的方式,如記錄個人校園生活的體驗(拍照片)等,這些方式不拘泥于書本,有助于學生拓展思維,而且與生活緊密聯系,會極大提高學生的興趣和參與度。】4. Ss learn how to design interviewing questions: start with general questions and then move on to specific ones. Ss design their interviewing questions on a topic and polish up their questions.(1) Ss answer the question: Who will you interview What do you want to know What kind of questions should you ask in an interview By studying the example in the textbook, students can get the tip: it’s a good idea to start with general questions and then move on to specific ones.Group work: Design your interview questions about school events. Students can refer to the questions they’ve taken down before, e.g. Can you tell me something about the school events How many school events do we have When are these school events held Who can take part in these school events What do students do in these school events (3) Group work: Design your interview questions about your topic and present to the class(4) Class work: Comment on others’ interview questions and help polish up those questions【設計意圖:學生通過小組學習認識鑒別可靠信息的原則,提高搜索信息和鑒別信息的能力。指導學生如何設計調查問卷或采訪問題,讓學生感知采訪問題的原則,并且通過小組學習能夠實際運用這些原則。】5. Ss decide on one or more ways of getting information based on their discussion. Teachers should help students know the most effective ways of getting information they need. Teachers can ask the following questions: If you want to know general information about the school events, which way will you choose (You can visit the school website and read some reports.) If you want to know how exciting or interesting the school events are, which way will you choose (You can visit the school website and download some pictures.) If you want to get detailed information about the school events, which way will you choose (You can interview teachers and schoolmates.)After that, students will be clear about how to get information they need.【設計意圖:通過回答以上教師的一系列問題,學生會更加清楚自己應該用哪一種方法有效、快速獲得需要的信息,這有助于課后學生應用課上所學知識和技能獨立搜索信息。】6. Task division: Each student in a group chooses a task , e.g. taking photos, interviewing teachers, or visiting school websites.【設計意圖:Project這堂課需要學生走出課堂,學以致用,遷移創新。所以要完成的步驟分成兩個階段,到Step 3為止屬于第一階段,這大概會占用半個課時。】Step 4 Making a booklet1. Students read the example in the textbook, and find the features of the language: the language is clear and precise …2. Ss work in groups and try to write a passage about their selected topic by using information they’ve got, and polish up their writing.3. Students study the pictures and layout of the example, and summarize the features: the pictures are clear and beautiful, the layout is neat and creative …4. As a group, Ss put together the information to make their part of the booklet.【設計意圖:學生通過學習書本上的例子來感知什么是好的宣傳小冊,分別從三個角度:語言、插圖和排版, 為完成宣傳小冊做好鋪墊。其中重點要學習如何寫小冊子上的文章。學生在做booklet的時候,已經在課下通過查閱學校網站、采訪等方法得到了較為完整的信息,通過小組合作把這些信息組合在一起,提高他們的合作能力。】Step 5 Presentation and appreciation1. Ss, as a group, present their part of the booklet in front of the class.2. Other students give suggestions from 3 aspects (language, pictures and layout).3. Ss polish up their work.4. Ss, as a class, put all the parts together to make the booklet.【設計意圖: 通過展示和其他同學的評價,學生容易發現自己在某些方面,例如短文寫作方面的不足,以便獲得提升。同時也有助于學生表達能力、膽量、表現力和自信心的增強。】V. Homework1. Read the booklet and appreciate the work of other groups.2. Reflect on the booklet and think about how you can make the school a better place.
